    I have used various gas mowers, and also corded electric over the years for a medium sized suburban home, this mower is by far the best mower I have ever used. I will never go back to gas. No more oil, tune-ups. draining old gas, running out of gas, etc. I have slowly replaced my weed wacker, hedge trimer, leaf blower with Ryobi 40v tools and I haven't regretted getting any of them.

    After buying the Ryobi model ry401210 in March (2023), I could not figure out a way to use self-propel **without** spinning the blades. I looked in the manuals. I chatted Ryobi tech support. I thought, dang! How could a design issue like that be missed? On soft scapes and hard scapes, this can be a huge problem if, let's say, you're on a steep slope and need the self-propel to get from A to B. Sure, turn off the motor and push it, old-fashioned way. I concluded that's just something I'll have to live with. But in THIS video ! Wait...really!? I was so excited. In the 8-to-9 minute segment, you can pull the safety bar in position and NOT start the motor and still use the self-propel feature. I went straight to my mower and what do you know?? It works !!

      @@user-pc6jz2qq7w I needed warranty service on an 18V hand-held sprayer, with 1-gallon tank. I used it probably 12 times in a year. Never ran anything through it that you're not supposed to - bleach, etc. - and I always ran 30-40 seconds clean water to flush. One day recently, outside, it just quit spraying. I checked every component thoroughly. The motor was gurgling drops of liquid. I had a few obstacles using Ryobi's "fast track" claims process. The problem for me and probably many more, is that Ryobi warranty service centers are far and wide. I have two 'near' me. One is 26 miles away and one is 31. Else you have to ship it and cover the shipping costs to Ryobi and back! The shop that I left it at got it working 100% and the 3-year warranty starts over, plus they sharpened the cross-cut blades of my mower. If my mower needs warranty service, dang. The good news is, the mower isn't all that heavy and it folds. Hopefully the existing service shops still do Ryobi warranty work, or even better, maybe Ryobi expands their warranty service network.

    Just bought the non-motorized 'whisper' version of this mower. I'll say it again, in the top trim whisper series - you can get NO POWER wheels. I.e. 100% you push. Thing is, my yard is 100% flat, the mower is light, and it costs less. The cut is fantastic. It mulches like a boss. The whisper series is super quiet, no earplugs needed. I can do my whole yard on 1 battery. The whisper series has a "built in" mulch door, works very well. And I love you can fold the mower up when storing in the garage. Because the mower uses so little battery, I got the carbon trimmer (no battery) and use one of the mower batteries for it. It's also a beast. Cut right through 20" wet grass (as long as you cut somewhat slow and steady).

    I'd like to see more reviews of Ryobi 40V tools. Preferably the entire 40V lineup. I've had the pleasure of using the 14" Chainsaw and I have to say I'm really impressed, considering what it is. It's no top-of-the-line Stihl, but it has done a great job so far. It even impressed my Brother and he dislikes electric chainsaws, corded and cordless alike. So impressed, he's investing in the 16" model to put with his Camping Gear. I'd like to see what else they have to offer and how well it holds up to other Brands with a similar model.

A lot of crews were running out of gas with no easy way to replenish the supply due to a 4 day power outage. I kept mine charged with some Harbor Freight solar panels and kept going until it got dark each day. From sunrise to sunset 7 days straight and not a single problem with it. I also have the 40V string trimmer(takes attachments) and a handheld blower that I use for my lawn care business and they work great, too. 5 battery packs and 2 chargers. 2 batteries are 4Ah and 3 are 6Ah and it only takes 45 minutes to fully charge a 6Ah. Nonstop use of the saw lasts around 30 minutes(20 for the 4Ah). Looking forward to investing in some 8Ah batteries soon.

      I know this is an old comment, but I bought my first home last year and went straight to ryobi 40v for my ope (except the lawn tractor, that's gas). Got the 600cfm blower and brushless attachment capable trimmer in a combo with a 4ah battery (for 199 crazy). Got the 20' push with a 6ah, the earth auger (tool only) and found the second gen leaf vac kit on clearance. Not a single one has let me down in the year I've had them.
      My only complaint is with the leaf vac, and theyre both mimor. The leaf vac NEEDS a 6ah or bigger battery to run well, and it comes with 2 4ah batteries, which to me is a miss. I would of preferred 1 8ah battery.

    Bought this mower in July. I haven't used it all that much because of the drought this summer, but I find that it doesn't cut as well as I would have liked (misses grass here and there). On top of that, it stopped working today. The drive engages, but the blade won't spin. It's a Sunday, so the help hotline isn't open. I now have a big area of grass that is longer than the rest of my lawn. To answer a few questions, the handle is locked in correctly, the batteries are fully charged, and the key is in and pointing to the full batteries. As I said before, the drive function works, but the blade won't engage.

      I have this same mower...after I bought it, I charged up the batteries to full before cutting it. I have approx 1.25 acres of lawn, and it was fairly long before cutting it because my previous mower wasn't working, which is why I finally bought the Ryobi. So, it was WAY overdue to cut.
      Since it was so long, I didn't use the bagger because it would fill WAY too fast and I also didn't mulch. It cut the lawn just fine, and since the grass was long, the battery cranked up higher than normal when hitting thick grass (it knows when to crank up higher to cut properly) so...the battery will deplete a bit quicker with longer grass, but it cut it just fine.....I didn't use full both batteries to finish the lawn...I used approx 1.5 of the batteries charge to finish it off.
      Now...when I cut my lawn when its not TOO long, I won't use a full charge of one battery...but its good to know I have the second one if I need it.
      I do know someone who bought the big Ryobi riding mower for $5,000 because he has a VERY big lawn. It has become a disappointment for him for how much he spent....now THAT mower I would NOT recommend.

Ryobi does not have site where you can get this part. They have subcontracted this to various companies and they claim that Ryobi does not support this mower anymore. As well my AWD does not work as the front wheels do not drive, however fortunately the back does. Also, one of my 40V batteries is now not functional. Bought one last week finally. I returned it , it cut great mulched great only used 1 battery for my entire lawn of KBG. Problem the amount of flex in the front wheels. If you pick up the rear of the mower it can cause the blade to hit the deck. I have one small off camber section in my lawn and if I ran across it the blade hit the deck. My old 16in ryobi does not do this , don't really care to deal with the hassle of warranting it out especially since it's priced as high as any other battery mower without that issue

    • @Shoptoolreviews
      @Shoptoolreviews  3 роки тому +1

      We are going to be testing this scenario of lifting the back of the deck up to see if we see the twist and deflection. Sorry that we missed that. We did a lot of lifting the front wheels off the ground with very little twist, nothing that would cause the blade to hit the deck.
      Really, the only other battery powered mower with the power and runtime would be the EGO Select Cut, and that's a little more expensive. It's a power beast. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    This might be a dumb question. Would not using that self-propelled feature and just manually pushing it helps save battery? I get that the light doesn’t draw a lot, but moving those wheels, I assume soes

    • @Shoptoolreviews
      @Shoptoolreviews  Рік тому +1

      Yes, pushing without the self-propulsion will save battery; however, it's quite a bit more resistance. That's one of our complaints about the RYOBI is that when you push it, you actually push against self-propel motor. Milwaukee and some others have an automatic neutral that allows the rear wheels to free-wheel when not in use. Thanks for watching.

Once you turn your mower in for a repair; you never know when or if you're going to get it back because they keep telling you over and over they haven't started on it yet. I've read enough of the negative reviews to know that there are all kinds of problems with these things. Affordable cordless lawnmowers are simply a bridge too far. Even worse, there are design flaws which don't have anything to do with electric power which render it toy-like, wholly unsuitable for its intended purpose. I would be embarrassed to put my name on products such as these.
