ABOUT THIS CHANNEL
Hi, my name is Yuliia, I am a former Fulbright Fellow from Ukraine and this is my channel where I interview Fulbrighters from all over the world. I came to the U.S. in 2015 to pursue Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Western Michigan University. After graduation I stayed in the U.S. with my husband, who also used to be a Fulbrighter and stayed at Western Michigan University for Ph.D.
Fulbright Student Organisation at Western Michigan University is one of the biggest Fulbright communities on campus in the U.S. And it is a truly incredible and welcoming group of intelligent people from all over the world. I want to share the experience of being a Fulbrighter with you and inspire you to take this challenge yourself!
This channel is for:
- People that want to apply for Fulbright and looking for inspiration and ideas for their applications;
- Current and former Fulbrighters that are looking to expand their network;
- Anyone who wants to broad their outlook and meet amazing people from all over the world!
Disclaimer: I am NOT an official Fulbright program representative, neither the people that I interview unless other is specified. Please, refer to the Fulbright Program website in your country for the most recent and valid information regarding the program. Requirements vary from country to country a lot. - Фільми й анімація
1. Why did you choose this profession?
2. Why did you choose the Fulbright scholarship?
3. Why the U.S.?
4. Your future plan
5. How will you contribute to the study exchange program?
6. What is your biggest weakness?
7. What are the difficulties that you think you will experience in the U.S.?
Thanks so much! I got the schorlarship. Your advices were really helpful (I'm from Mexico). Basically, in my case the interviewers wanted to check that everything in the statements were in accordance with the candidate's profile. They asked me why I chose my careeer, future plans after graduating, 1 important challenge in my country of residence, and to briefly describe why my career is important to the development of Mexico. Again, thanks for this video! Surely it will continue being helpful to other future Fulbrighters!
Hola, también soy de México y estoy interesada en aplicar para la beca Fulbright, ¿puedo hacerte unas preguntas sobre tu experiencia?
Congratulations!
I'm from Mexico too, currently preparing myself for next Call for participation!
Hola Alaian, disculpa, después de la entrevista, cuànto tiempo pasó para que te dieran resultados?
Hola! podrías dar algunos consejos para estudiar para el GRE y TOEFL ya que fuiste fulbrighter? gracias! :)

Thank you for the video. It's very interesting. The Interview Is Coming!
Super helpful and informative :) Thanks!
I got the scholarship and I'm attending Northern Arizona University for my second master's this fall :)
In my interview (I'm from Venezuela) there were like five people, but one of them was on the phone from Washington. I was kind of nervous at first, but they make you feel comfortable. One of the members of the committee was a previous fulbrighter, too.
All your tips are very good. You just be yourself and come prepared. The interview will finish faster than you think =P and you will feel very happy about yourself. Cheers :)
Thank you for your feedback! Was your interview mostly about personal or professional skills?
The committee is from your country, or USA?

Hi. Who did it go? Did you get it? Can you remember some of the questions?
I’m really excited about my interview next week and want to know about it.
Thanks in advance. Hope you got it
Thank you! My interview has just finished, your tips helped a lot!
My interview is tomorrow. How was it? any additional tips?
@@daniellepurcell7221 before the interview I kept asking myself the questions they could ask, and then I wrote down a short summary of my best answers. It was incredibly helpful, as most of the questions were the same as in video.
I made it a point not to write all the answers to all possible questions in order to sound more natural, and it worked. But the summary was definitely a good idea, as I was nervous and these notes helped me 2-3 times.
As for the additional questions, they asked me what university I'd like to study at, and what subjects I want to study there. But overall, the questions were absolutely the same as in the video. The guys who interviewed me were very friendly, so there was much less to worry about than I had expected.
Good luck with your interview!
Hi, I'm applying Fulbright I have a question in my research paper what should I focus on?

@@rarissime awesome. Congratulations! ✊🏾
Can u please tell me what are the questions at the interview?
Today was my interview, thank you so much for Your video❤. I am from Iraq. I have answered all the questions but my English language was poor.
Thank you for the tips....am just 2 hours to my interview
Thank you for your video it's very very helpful, although, i would've love if you gave us more tips about the part "greatest achievements" like, do they want to know personal details ? or they mean work/study achievements ?
But great video, thanks again ♥
Bey Sarah thank you for your feedback! Good question... Although outstanding achievements in academia would be better to brag about, I would say tell whatever will “sell” you better. For example, if you are applying for an engineer degree, talking about raising 3 kids as a single parent probably won’t help much, but for something like early childhood development or counseling can be a win. Use something that can be concluded as “this is my the greatest achievement and this is The experience that made ME The best candidate for your program”.
Although, I’ve been thinking about your question and you know, if you can explain how even the example with kids impacted your life and career in engineering (didn’t give up, want to show other women that they can also rock in STEM majors no matter what stereotypes say) - why not? So the main tip is - whatever “sells” you better!
Oops, I’ve just realized that I posted the 1st comment from another account.
I’m not a part of Fulbright committee and idk what’s in their heads. However in my opinion, the language is not the biggest concern. You can improve language in few month/a year but not always you can improve your academic and professional experience in a year. So it doesn’t make sense to disqualify you forever because of your English 😁 I hope you have more luck this year ❤️
Hi. I’m from Argentina. I’m having my interview next week. Thanks for posting. It’s quite interesting and very helpful.
I’ll try to focus on the answers and be relaxed.
Thanks! I’ll let you know if I got it by the end of November 😘
Thank you! Good luck on the interview!
Como te fue? yo tambien soy de Arg
You got it?
Молодец! Хорошо все объяснила.

Thank you for sharing your experience! Has anyone got a clue about the kind of questions they ask at a Visiting Scholar interview?
Thank you so much from Perú :)

thank-you for this video. I have my interview tomorrow on 17 sep, 2019. your video gave me a good picture . greetings from Pakistan.
how did it go
Fatiha Taheya It went really well.
How did it go ?
And which country?
Gamers Field it went well. I am from Pakistan
Hey Aqsa. Hope, you're healthy and safe. I'm also from Pakistan :) recently applied in Fulbright. Hoping the application works out. Can you kindly give me an overview of your own interview experience and what questions were you asked? I'd be really grateful
Thanks for sharing these points.
Can you tell us if the panel is going to ask technical questions about our research objective.
More likely they will but that may depend whether they have someone who specializes in your field.
Thanks Fulbrighter . Your tips are very helpful!
I don´t know if you're now in your country. All the world knows about the difficult times Ukrainians are facing. I just want to let you know that many people in Mexico, including my wife and myself, are praying for your country. Blessings
Arwen is that you
My interview is on 16th September 2019. Thank you Yuliia for such great help, You will be among those who contributed to my success in life. Thank you.

@@angiesalazar7204 would you like to train with me by skype?
@@angiesalazar7204 I am very nervous too!
Hello, thank you so much for all this tips. I am a mechanical engineer also and i started my phd last year. I want to ask you about the courses you attended as a fullbrighter are they related to mechanical engineering and your reaserch or they give all fullbrighter the same courses no matter their specialities are?
Hello, thank you for your feedback! About courses: Fulbright does not provide any courses, they pay for the graduate program you choose :)
Thank you, I got my interview yesterday, only the “what will you do when you come back?” Was asked.
The other questions were purely technical.
Shall I send a thank you email to them? I thanked them in the interview and the invite was done by someone else.
Thanks so much. Do you know the approximate rate of people from the interviews, that get accepted?
In my case, I adjusted my study objective since I applied. I switched the priorities between two fields of research, making me specialize in something else while also visiting classes in what I originally planned. Should I be open about this? On one hand, I have good reasons for that change. On the other hand my application is only 2 months old an I don't want to have them doubt my overall determination in my study objective.
Please tell how to make 'Study plan & Autobiography' for admission to Korean/ Chinese/ Taiwan universities? Applying for master's in computer science. really confused. Pls. help... thanks
Hi
Did you need to submit other documents besides the ones you did during the application process? I mean, after you were approved
Hi mam
How do we need to write a writing sample? And what could be the word limit? Can you please tell me about the writing sample.
Thanks a lot for what you doing for us. What can u recommend for those who want to in mprove English to your level? That might be good if you will make a video about that. Have a great day!
Thank you! Ugh... a lot of practice! My English was far from perfect when I went abroad for the first time. What you hear in the videos is a result of 4.5 years living in English speaking countries.
Здравствуйте. Подскажите пожалуйста где находить эти программы Фулбрайт
My interview was yesterday and the questions were simpler than expected!! But I was so tiered with a headacke and I forgot many things should be mentioned!!!😭
It all about being relaxed!!!! And foooocused
I hope you’ll got it! And it always feels that it was terrible right after the interview, I’m sure it was not that bad;)
@@fulbrighterfromukraine3013 I really hope so.I was very tiered and with a a headacke that I really didn't mention my real experience.I totally forgot!! And of course I gave them a wrong impression.it wasn't comfortable at all!! I CHECK NOW MY E MAIL EVERY MINUTE..😀😀😀but I am sure it will be the delayed one😀
I really would like to thank you for your helpful videos..I kept remembering you during the interview.😘
I also recommend stongly...to sleep well before.
I have mine in 5 days.. from Sri Lanka
I took my interview some days ago, could someone tell me how much time it takes to receive the answer?
спасибо большое!! Вопрос: нужно ли заранее пройти TOEFL?? Я не очень поняла, его заранее нужно сдать или во время обучения и получения магистерской степени??
Depends on the country. In Ukraine we took it after Fulbright interview and before the university applications. Some countries require you to have a TOEFL score before you apply for Fulbright. But definitely you have to take it before university admission.
My interview is on Monday!
Please send me good vibes as I will change the world in better!
Peace!😊🙏🏻
My interview is in three days. Any updated tips?
I will have an interview next Monday for teachers do you what r the questions?
My interview is gonna be 15 days from now and I am very nervous.
Hey how did it go?
At which point in time during your application did you do your gre and toefl test? Is it necessary before interviews? I am worried because the appication deadline for my universities is already on about a month and interviews are still in a few weeks. The preselection also isn't out yet.
I’d advise that you start preparing for the tests after the interview. If you’ve been shortlisted as a candidate after the interview, they will ask for your scores then.
So stressed, my interview is in two days
Thank you for this! It’s a dream to be a Fulbright scholar. I heard that it’s already your third master’s degree when you applied. I don’t have one yet but i want to pursue my masters through Fulbright, do you think it will affect my application and chance to be selected? Thanks a lot!
Of course not! Unless there is a requirement like that for your country. Generally you can apply after undergrad, sometimes you need 2 years work experience. But you definitely don’t need 2 masters degrees 😁
Thank you for your reply! You're a huge help and an inspiration!
Спасибо большое, вот у меня завтра собеседование. А incidentals сколько получали? Вот переживаю если пройду то сколько с собой надо брать денег чтоб прожить там.
What is incidentals? Fulbright pays you at minimum wage level in the region, usually that’s enough. It’s always a good idea to bring some money for the first week until you set up your bank account. Sometimes you have to pay rent for the first month out of your own pocket so I’d say bring $$ for rent + $300-500 for food and transport. But you will get that reimbursed almost right away.
Do you get to pick the university you will attend, or does the Fulbright committee tell you where you will be going?
Both. You write a list of universities you want to study at. Fulbright reviews it and suggested their list - in my case it didn’t include any of my preferences. You can argue with them but in that case you may have lower chances to get admitted and funded. Fulbright usually picks universities where they think you’ll have better chances and they can afford.
Hi! I had applied for FTEA , got call for interview . Interview was ok, but I was not selected. Should I apply again next year. Please suggest.
Sorry for a late reply. Sure, I have applied twice!
Hello Dear.. I was shortlisted in Fulbright Sch Application, and yesterday I had an interview virtually (over zoom). My interview was around 5 minutes, and I spoke too fast and was too precise. However, I did answer all their questions. Will my precision, short, and fast answer affect my further selection?? I am too tensed about it.
Can you please tell me about your interview questions?
@Isobahall
How it went? Tell us
My interview is gonna be on Wednesday 23rd of september. I am from Algeria. Please make a Doa for me guyz. Doa = prayers
11:43 am I the only one to notice this switch?
Thanks so much for the enlightenment. I am applying for another scholarship but I think I can apply these tips too. Btw, how to answer the opening question: Tell me about yourself? How far should should we explore?
I’d recommend you to google “elevator speech”, there are some good tips on how to introduce yourself in 30 seconds. It’s development should be very short but as informative as possible.
Do they ask you to introduce yourself in the beginning of the interview? And what would be appropriate to say.
Of course! I recommend you to Google “elevator speech” and use that template.
Hello, how are you? Thank you for you tips.
They really helped me prepare myself for the interview and, fortunately, everything went great at the time of doing the interview.
Almost 60% of the questions they asked me, were question that they also ask you. The other 40% of questions were based on my work experience, my professional career and plans for the future, especially after finishing the master's program.
I have a question regarding the status of your visa: after finishing your program, did you go from J1 to J2? As your husband's dependent until he finished his PhD program? Was it necessary for you to leave the USA to make the change of status?
Hello, thank you for the feedback, I’m glad your interview went well! Good luck with the rest of application!
Yes, to transfer from J-1 to J-2 you have to leave the country. But you can apply the next day you land and theoretically come back in a week.
How can I submit for this interview? Please answer.
Apply for Fulbright program in your country :)
My interciew is in few days

Hello, I need some information , Please help me with my questions
Sure, message me on Instagram or email to Yuliia.sergeeva@gmail.com
As a fullbrighter, can you stay and work for a year after ur masters?
Yes, for student from most of the countries. I know that students from Iraq were not allowed to do this few years ago. But things may change.
What is your biggest achievement?
hello, i need to Fulbright scholarships main website, help me, thanks
I’d recommend you to google “Fulbright Scholarship ”. Sometimes Fulbright page will be on the US Embassy website. “The main” website is either for current Fulbright students, alumni or US students applying to go abroad
So you didnt get the Fulbright Scholarship is that correct?
I applied two times, I didn’t get it the first time, but I did get it two years later (in 2015)
@@Yuliia.sergeeva Ah I see, thats great :) I just had my Fulbright interview and your video was incredibly helpful, so thanks alot! I hope they will pick me!
Oh great! Good luck!
The content is the best but a little pause
could we have a little talk I need your help?
Sure, message me on my Instagram or email Yuliia.sergeeva@gmail.com
Is it available in Afghansitan???
Fulbright scholarship? Of course! Afghanistan sends around 100 students every year!
Check out my interview with Afghan Fulbrighter as well
Why are you able to stay in the US after graduation? But not return to your home country for at least 2 years
You can stay in the US on other non-immigrant visa (meaning J, F and I think O). My husband stayed to do his PhD and I’m accompanying him on J-2 visa. We still have to go home for 2 years after this tho.
Sorry, but I can't understand, before interview you should take TOEFL and get more than 100 points, how your English could be poor?
Depends on the country. In Ukraine you don’t have to. In some countries they make you take a free demo version of TOEFL before that, in some countries you have to take GRE before even the online application and pay it out of your pocket.
