right, bcuz the longer it takes Ukr to prevail the more organized the Ru's will become, and their total potential capacities dwarf Ukr's by far! not even in same universe. This war may very well require a coalition of willing western countries including obviously the U.S., which is my country. I'm a classical liberal and centrist and we here r trying to both retain our own democracy, as well as make sure our leaders know that we know Ukr is an existential issue, and IS essentially the continuuation of both the cold war becoming hot, and ww2.

Same is true here in America, my friend. Silicone Curtain is the best for us. Nothing better.
But we need better outreach to the working class whose life is too perhaps too hectic for "long intellectual programming" without a clear understanding of how it directly impacts and imperils them. Got any ideas?

Well done Jonathan and all the panelists, this was brilliant! It seems like an impossible time for Ukraine in terms of lack of armaments from my country (the US). I am no longer sure what i can do, after an early hope that activism (mostly rallies and fundraising) and basic participation (writing letters) could move the needle. I am those people who needs to move Biden....But I now believe Mr Biden is immovable, that his advisors (Blinken and Sullivan, co- authors Obama's disgraceful Ukraine policy) are hacks with no coherent policy ideas, and have driven incoherent policy, that Joe Biden is on that same page, and nothing will move them. I will still try. Please everyone, we cannot give up. John Sweeny, if you have dirt on Trump please make it public, ASAP. Slava Ukraini!

@@arthurmiller-vl6sw sorry very wrong. The Government did not take the vote for approval because there is no point doing so if it is vetoed by the US in be first place. Second , security matters are often not made public, allowed by law. Key: In this case blaming US in public is not good diplomacy. Third, the contract with US ( in this case, General Electric) requires confidentiality in these matters.
All makes sense ONLY if US does not want Russia to get US intellectual property. But these aircraft are well superseded, still much better than what Ukraine has.

US drip feed is major reason UK, France , now even Germany supply tanks or long range missiles first. US procrastinating. Allowed Russia to build up defences as Ukraine had not long range missiles or aircraft to safety destroy defences. Not even 50 ATACMS out of over 2400. Stalemate caused by US. Disgusting.

Hey John in the Orange Cap:
I am offended. Millions of other Americans will be offended by your words as well, especially those Americans who, unlike me, may not be 100% Ukraine supporters and advocates:
You said "To the Americans, I say... Wake up! Wake up! Give Ukraine's the stuff they need. And stop being so cowardly." Cowardly!?
Let me tell you some things from an American perspective that rankles at such insinuations of Europe's superior sophistication, worldly awareness, and cultural/societal maturity.
I live in Toledo, Ohio, proudly and historically one of the most working class manufacturing cities in the now blighted Midwestern Rust Belt. Furthermore, Ohio's decades long economic blight is what has made it an angry rebellious Swing State in every recent national election. (Also, I'm sure of particular interest to you: Toledo invented the beer bottling and capping production line! .. the spark plug, etc).
Below is some of what I hear every time I bring up Ukraine with my Toledo neighbors....
    1) Why the hell are these fat cat politicians in Washington giving billions of my tax dollars to Ukraine when they can't even repair the potholes in my street, cut down the dead trees that fall on my house during thunderstorms, or fix the damned schools for my kids!? Those politicians must be "on the take" getting rich off Ukraine from their insider trading.
    2) Why has the US Government sent ($40 billion plus) to Ukraine - more than double what all of Europe combined has spent!? Who the hell are they to call us Cowards!
    3) Why are we spending billions in Ukraine when young Americans today, even in their 30s and 40s, can't afford to buy a house!? Why shouldn't that money, my own damned tax dollars, be spent on lowering mortgage interest rates or subsidizing home ownership?
    4) Here we go again: These uppity Europeans who live so "high on the hog" that they can afford to take one month long vacations for the entire month of August - "Now they tellin' me I'm the one, the one who don't even get one day of paid vacation or any health care, I'm the one they come runnin' to tellin' me I'm supposed to pay for a war in THEIR back yard!? ...while they on vacation livin' the damned High Life!?"
    5) Yeah... Just like Trump say: "Them Europeans ain't never paid their fair share towards NATO. Ain't but 1 or 2 of 'em who even came close to payin' the 2% they promised to pay for they OWN self defense. Meanwhilst they all taking vacations while we sendin' our young 'uns over there to NATO bases to protect their asses while they sit on a beach. Like Trump say, we just need to pull outta NATO and fix our own broke country. Let them lazy-assed white people fend for their own selves. What our government ever do for Africa? Nuttin'. Cuz that's where all the black people be."
    6) MFing Europeans: All they ever say is Americans are sticking their nose in where it don't belong... and actin' all uppity about it.
Now they sayin' we're Cowards!? WTF?
Get the point, John? Cuz I've got plenty more verbatum examples for you... maybe enough to fill a book... or a documentary that none of my neighbors will watch. You better bet that The Orange One is gonna ride all these things with a vengeance in the Presidential Race against Biden.
And THAT is the point! These are the Americans you all need to reach, braddah!
I have two suggestions on how to help the Ukrainian Cause - for you and no less for Silicon Curtain (my favorite source that I watch every single day):
#1 - Hold your next conference here in Toledo, Ohio - epicenter of America's blighted (post) industrial heartland. You want Americans to listen, to feel Ukraine's pain? Come to the heart of our downtrodden heartland. Demonstrate that you respect us enough before you tell us that we're Cowards because we only contibuted TWICE what all of Europe did while our neighborhoods are crumbling. Take this opportunity to see, feel, hear and speak directly to the Americans you want to sway. When you show Toledoans (not Detroiters or Chicagoans) & Rust Belters that you came all this way just to talk to them, I guarantee they will listen and feel proud. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they put a Silicone Curtain Symposium on National TV (PBS).
#2- Don't have another Symposium without inviting at least one American speaker who actually knows and understands Americans and current American politics - Especially if you're going to call us Cowards, or tell them how they're doing everything wrong. Especially during one of the most emotional, vicious, and irrational Presidential Election periods ever, which, no offense, you seem to be completely ignorant about.
I hope you understand that I write only with the best of intentions for a Glorious, Victorious, Rebuilt, Peaceful and Secure Ukraine. You're a frank, blunt, rootsy, action-oriented, brilliant writer with a huge heart who loves Ukraine and despises Evil Putler. And I am so glad of your dedication to Ukraine. I know you want to be effective and have justice prevail.
"The thing we should be scared of is Russia under Putin, Not Russia after Putin." This statement by you I couldn't agree with more. This is the statement that you SHOULD be expounding upon and making clear in your inimitable rootsy style to my fellow belabored working class Americans who ask themselves every day: "Why does my government care more about giving billions to foreigners in far off lands with names I can't even pronounce when I have to get my teeth pulled because I can't afford a dentist for a filling or a crown!?"

You made a stupid long comment, but here is my simple answer to you: if you don't want to go to war you should help Ukraine now, because Russians after Ukraine will eventually go to you. Search a little bit about what happened in the 1930s, compare it with the situation right now and you'll clearly understand what I mean.
Also you assume that Europeans are not helping Ukraine. That's actually not true, many European countries actually help in all the ways they can. They mostly just don't have the military complex needed to support a war against a big agressor that has a huge amount of equipment and cannon fooder and whose commanders don't care about losses at all.

The US maybe spending a big amount of money to produce weapons and donate them to the AFU, but actually this is still not enough. Russian Army can be a joke but they use the enormous size as their big advantage, and it more or less works... You cannot underestimate that.

@@diogorodrigues747As Forest Gump would say: "Stupid is as Stupid does."
It's a shame that my writing was too long to hold your attention enough to understand it.
      I'll repeat the essential part:
IT'S WHAT MY NEIGHBORS SAY when I try to persuade them to support Ukraine.
Seems like you'd rather not know why too many average Americans are not fully supporting Ukraine. Or why Biden is going so slow. Or how Ukraine might get its message across to voting Americans who will choose a president who might not support Ukraine even as much as Biden.
      Ignorance is Bliss, eh?

@@diogorodrigues747 I know all about the 1930s; I've studied it all my life: Nazi appeasement, holocaust, genocide, subjugation, enslavement, etc ad nauseum - All of this the consequence of a go-slow caution that created a decade of horror. As John said, Putin right now is worse and a more immediate threat than whoever replaces him.
I know about Poland spending 4+% of GDP on self defense, tiny Lithuania donating 100% of its artillery to Ukraine and too much more to list.
I know that America should give more, better, faster. I know that I'm having a lot of difficulty persuading any of my neighbors or colleagues of the lessons we should have taken from WWII and all the history since then. Or of the tremendous sacrifice and contribution being made by much of Europe - and by 100% of Eastern Europe.
So you are preaching to the choir when you misread my intent and admonish me.
I do not wish to preach to the choir because it will not aid Ukraine. I desire to convert the ignorant and unconverted. I'm making suggestions and asking for advice.
Hillary Clinton ran against Trump in 2016. She lost solely because (imho) she had once called Trump supporters "a basket of Deplorables." My jaw dropped when I heard those words come out of her mouth 6 months before the election because I knew then and there that those words would infuriate and offend many Americans who, even if they loathed Trump, would vote for him anyway just to spite her.
Calling Americans "Cowards" is hardly different from calling them "Deplorables." It's hardly the way to win friends and influence voters.

@@diogorodrigues747 he didn’t say Europeans aren’t helping Ukraine. That isn’t the focus of his post. He’s trying to get the point across that even using the US as verbal punching bag because it’s a quick sound byte, is totally counter-productive, isn’t cool at all. His point is that not all Americans are rolling in the deep, comfortable, or rich. That is a big reality over here.

Additional suggestion to Silicon Curtain's presumed team: for the live panel, grahics with names on screen at the first take of mic would help remember them, despite introduction at the beginning. (Or just a response while introducing). That would help to remember who are saying what and look them up for additional material or background, for additional credibility - not all viewers on social networks know or believe what's happening in Ukraine or Europe, unfortunately.

Regarding the fear of Ukrainian "brain drain" due to the war: It is true that Ukraine will be demographically challenged in the short term, just as Russia will be in the very long term. But I've been to Ukraine (albeit over 50 years ago) and these people are super smart, hard-working, adaptable and patriotic. After victory, they will repeople the land and become a magnet for immigrants from all over the world. . . I'm way too old to effectively fight or else I'd be there now, but once the orcs are subdued I hope to go there to volunteer whatever services I can offer. . . Glory to Ukraine for helping save Western Civilization! Slava Ukraîni!

Just finished watching this, many thanks to everyone who contributed, took part, and made this whole event possible. Bravo!
Will people return and migrate to Ukraine after her victory? IMO, yes! Why? Because *this* time, after *this* war, with the necessary Ukrainian national securities that we, in reality, owe to Ukraine/Ukrainians and should have put in place long before now, there will be no threat of gulag, punishment, death, for defending her own people.
The stalin era is no more, and putin must not be allowed to "repeat" and any of that, nor must any such abhorrent wrong-doings slip under our (safety) net. We *do* so need to stick by Ukraine's side this time. Believe me; we do!
What happened to Ukraine after WW2, not everyone knows about or fully understands. Our ancestors and relatives do.
Some are still around now, and they know the truth of what's really been going on/what the Ukrainian people have been subjected to, by russia, since 1945.
Then, with the security that stem from Ukraine's imminent victory, and what we in other nations do immediately, without bureaucratic delays, there will for sure be an attraction, for many, to want to be in, and to return to; Ukraine. #TheMetaphoricalGuardDogAtTheDoorSnarlingAtRussia #PoliteButStrongWarning #NotAThreat
I loved the comment about just how advanced Ukraine is! This is another good reason for all of our governments to protect and continue to support Ukraine. I'm sure that would be mutually beneficial.
As for rebuilding Ukraine and community, from the bottom up, there is already a huge sense of community support from local official bodies that has existed for longer than many of us might realise; as well as that working well from the top down; interacting in better ways with local communities - as far as I can tell.
In fact, for many decades, many Ukrainians have worked tirelessly for the better of each village, town, and city... it was a dedicated work in progress that was interrupted by russia's war on Ukraine.
Also, technical and professional advancements that impressive, that many of us could learn a lot from Ukrainian society and her citizens!
Most importantly, on hearing the discussion about trolls, etc., and how social media and suchlike (propaganaga, if you like) covertly tries to/or does, influence populations' thought processes and support for the side of the baddies in life...
*True democracy is a force to be reckoned with* !!! #ItBelongsToUs
