As an 80s kid who remembers the absolute crowds around the original arcade game I can’t imagine how many were excited as hell to get this game on Christmas only to find….this.
Worse, if a kid in the US got Dragon's Lair as a Christmas present, then they didn't even get this version - they got something much, much worse. This is the Japanese version, which is far more optimized and somewhat playable. The original release is horrible.
I was the only one in my family and friends circle who could get past the drawbridge (yes, the very first screen) - I had legendary status for that alone.
The japanese version play much faster than the american version. I love the smooth and fast sprite animation. This is close to "Blast Processing", just not enough.
Yeah, how fascinating: due to the better chips, the japanese version of the game was faster, including the music! Which means you can either be done with it faster and move on to a better game, or die and give up on it quicker! It's a win-win situation! Ok, but jokes aside, I prefer this version of the music tracks. Most folks are used to the slower speed, but you can tell this was closer to the speed they were intended to play at 😅 tho the mod I tried did go for a more middle ground speed.

Why did they make him walk two inches a second

That final boss was intense!
Ikr!!! He sure show’d that dragon a thing or two!!
I literally blinked and missed it.
it's more intense than the first scene !
“You didn’t slay the dragon?!”
“It’s on my to-do list!”
I've seen this referenced on every TAS of this game and it never gets old lmao
3:50 best boss fight ever.

Game duration: 230 seconds
Rerecord count: 32217
Rerecords per second: 140
The dragon was like "nah, I'm taking a nap."
Wow! Meshuggah does tas now? Loved that band
I knew those polymeters had to be tool asisted
Somewhere, a french guy is still screaming at this game
His left arm
HIS LEFT ARM IS IN A CAST
Pretty impressive graphics for an NES. Doesn't look like the rest of the game really holds up, though.

why is the jump button up in the japanese version?
I got up to the mines level in this game when I was a kid
Someone should make a max gold tas run of this game.
It's a good thing that it's the Japanese version, but man. It almost borderline unplayable. Lmao
Pojr should explain why in today's video of why the USA version of Dragon's Lair is borderline unplayable.
This version was so terrible. At least the Commodore 64 version tried to mimic the arcades versions style of play
The thing is this version is very good for everything... expect the gameplay. Quite a shame sadly.

Very humoristic.
Omg it’s the Don Bluth game
Oof. Terrible. Still better than Cyberpunk.
Edit: The animations are amazing, though. Very good for the NES.
I prefer the arcade version over this sorry excuse of a "game"
You can just leave!
4 FUCKING MINUTES
The game's going too fast.
it's the japanese version. this was the way the american version was supposed to be
Man, it's so cathartic to watch this piece of shit game get TAS'd. this game is awful, and is a complete bastardization of the original arcade game.
