Meredith not telling Amelia who Penny was, was her lowest ever.
is it just me or like... this whole hating penny thing made no sense and i have never understood why people think it's HER fault that derek died. she is the one who was a smart doctor and actually tried to save him and continuously pushed to get a head CT but the other doctors were being slightly discriminatory and were just not good doctors but SHE was ???
In my opinion, I think hating her is justified because while she didn't exactly kill Derek, it's the way she reacted after. While Meredith was grieving and clearly wanted to be alone, and also had her children there unaware of their dead father to worry about with her pregnancy , Penny goes out of her way to bother her and be all woe is me. Like she talked about it being the first death in her residency and cried to the point where Meredith, who just lost her husband and the father of her children, had to console HER instead of herself. And it's mentioned multiple times in the show that when you tell a family that their loved one is dead, they will always associate you with their death and you'll become a part of their life in the worst way possible. Meredith associated Penny with Derek's death as much as the attending on the case because they were the two present for his case. Hence why, to her, she will always be responsible for killing Derek because she delivered the news.

meredith has killed patients and she was never treated this way. i understand that she's grieving but she had no right to treat penny like this
I think that we have to try and understand where Meredith and Amelia are coming from. Derek meant a lot to the whole hospital, And I get that it wasn’t all penny’s fault but the only thing that this situation doesn’t have in common with the other doctors whos patients died on the show is that penny was sort of forced into their lives while they were still grieving. She was dating Callie,she showed up at Meredith‘s house for the dinner, she also got transferred to the grey- Sloan Memorial hospital. Seeing Penny was a reminder that Derek died in the hands of her and that hospital that he went to. I agree with you,Penny should have not been treated like that but there was a reason Meredith and Amelia act it out in such away.
I’m not saying that Penny is the bad guy in this situation I personally Believe that there’s no bad guy in this situation at all. Penny was working for a mediocre hospital with mediocre doctors so it wasn’t her fault. But Meredith is always going to look at pennys Face and think of that traumatic day where her husband died. Meredith and Amelia didn’t have anyone else to blame ,at the time, but the Doctor who was working on Derek (Penny ) and in their minds they thought she did Because penny and the whole medical crew could have done more
I mean think of it this way, if Meredith or any other doctor showed up at one of their dead patients houses don’t you think that their family would react the same way as Meredith and Amelia did?
@@JasmineGoff2008 agreed. Similar to when the guy whose wife died under Derek’s care. He was so overwhelmed with grief and he had a face to put the blame on which led to him shooting Derek. This doesn’t justify the act but you can understand why those in despair do such things. And like you said Meredith barely had time to grieve and now Penny is being thrown into her life, I’d be upset too. I’m glad Mer was strong enough to look past Penny’s mistake later on and be a great mentor for her!
