I remember watching this game live. As a Butler alum / fan, it probably took 10 years off my life. My GF at the time and I were in a hotel room in Chicago, and we were jumping up and down. She's a Butler alum as well.
My wife today went to IU and never cared about sports anyway, so she wouldn't have understood as well if I had known her then. She's a better life match for me but not when it comes to sports.

Crazy game, i was watching the end in the chicago airport and i was going nuts. I'm a Ohio state fan (always have been) but i was cheering for butler in that game.

This game nearly drove me insane. I'm glad UCONN beat those guys. I'm forced to cheer for other big east teams in the tournament because my team can't seem to get past the elite eight, even with a #1 seed.

i never watch ncaa cause i'm ignorant of the college stars, but i see that they have real basketball plays (not everyone is standing around like nba) and refs make the right calls. i'll try to watch more ncaa. please do more ncaa games!

@ultimatederon Yes, I agree. I truly think it's possible that the Pitt player who fouled at the end thought that Pitt was losing when he fouled. There is no other explanation why he just grabs Howard like that.

@BluePaintedChair @AJVersatility19 Yes! I don't think I could do NCAA on a regular basis - it would take me 30 minutes for each post since they execute 2 or 3 offensive sets in the SAME possession. So much hustle and great execution - a real pleasure. These are the kids that should be playing in the NBA - not a bunch of 19 year olds who will never learn the game the right way...
WOw NCAA is 100 times more intense than NBA! Plus the passion, love these, do more COach?

@KillenEMsoftly You mean on the rebound? Nasir Robinson grabs him. Here's my theory: Robinson thought Pitt was losing and fouled him to stop the clock. Only way to explain why it appeared he was TRYING to foul him. Thoughts?

@gryd999 Problem is the free throw shooter is a senior, and Nasir Robinson, who fouled Howard on the rebound, is a junior. How can veterans make those mistakes?

@bballbreakdown I really enjoyed your analysis. You obviously know your X's and O's and have a good knowledge of the game. At the end, I do think Mack had a good idea to stay up and put a little pressure on the outlet, but was too anxious trying to make a play on the ball. I hope to see more of your breakdowns here in the future. We got the sweet 16 coming up and my team IU is playing Kentucky Friday! Go Hoosiers!

Hey coach Nick, what about Euroleague games? I think they play really fundamentally sound basketball here in Europe. The Players are definitely not that good as in the NBA but the team game is often better (at least in my opinion) and regular season games are more intense - like play off games in the NBA. And I like NCAA basketball as well although I rarely have the opportunity to watch NCAA games. Love your analysis!

Great call by the refs on both fouls. They were the correct calls that had to be made if the players are going to put themselves in that position. Butler moves on.

@bballbreakdown I really don't know. On the Euroleague Homepage you can get access to all the games. But it costs money. On TV Eurosport2 shows a lot of games, but I don't know if you have this channel in the US.
Butler led 38-30 at halftime, only to hold on 71-70 at the end.

@BluePaintedChair Yea watch more NCAA. They got some very skilled players. Plus it gives you a chance of becoming a fan of a player before he enters the league. If you want a start, watch BYU games! Jimmer Fredette is the most exciting player i've ever watched.

@SlyCopper23 Having gone to Wisconsin, I'm pretty familiar with Illinois and Northwestern. I'm pretty sure NU will NEVER have a great basketball team. While Duke has managed to do it with high academic standards, Northwestern has never been able to attract those kinds of athletes.
