In 1987, following the events of Shenmue II, teenage martial artist Ryo Hazuki has journeyed from Yokosuka, Japan, to the mountains of Guilin, China, in search of his father's killer, Lan Di. There he met Ling Shenhua, a mysterious girl who previously appeared in his dreams. After learning the legend of her village, which foretells a united path between them, Ryo and Shenhua embark on a new journey which reveals their shared destiny. Lan Di returns, with a new antagonist, Niao Sun

Ending seemed rushed & cut. The total cut scene time in Shenmue II was over 6 hours. In Shenmue III you learned nothing new & it even reduced the importance of the sword of seven stars to a jobber.
Right they kind of lost focus or someone else tried to continue where it left off and went way left.

I waited 15 yrs to see this come to its end.... I mean it I think Shenmue was my first experience at a game of such a caliber I’m glad they brought it back finally
LOL, I like how the monotonous acting is still here, just like the old Shenmue. XD
I actually like this aspect: it makes the game more realistic. Real-life people are not anywhere hysterical/theatrical as games/films suggest.
(Not that the game is really realistic in other aspects, though, of course. For example, remembering well the events from the 1930s-1940s ago, in general, the Chine would not be as welcoming to a random Japanese lad as this game shows him being welcomed to training centres and stuff. They would be polite but nothing more unlike what this game suggests.)

People say this game is outdated and the voice acting is still cringe but I actually liked these aspects of the game. The graphics are beautiful specially the depiction of rural environments. The gameplay isn't backdated it just stayed true to the franchise's roots it's almost the same gameplay of shenmue 1 and 2 with some minor improvements. If they tried to overhaul everything then it would have been be a good game but not a good shenmue game.

Disappointingly, the object was poorly modeled. You could tell they slapped a JPEG on there instead of building the 3D geometry to give the console depth. Modern hardware certainly could handle it easily.

I played the HD collection of Shenmue 1 + 2
Shenmue 1 was the 1st and it needs to build up, i get it that game and the game is SUPER DATED
Shenmue 2 AT LEAST had something goin on movement new characters right away and stuff
Shenmue 3 is basically goin back to Shenmue 1 and the game has berly evolved and fuck that Stamina feature forcing you to eat all teh time

Honestly can someone explain how Ryo lost to Yanlang and why he had such difficulty? He defeated Mad angels with one other person to help him where they were both half dead at the time, took down din the yellow head organisation leader and been getting stronger and even defeated so many powerful foes like that super tough martial artist in shenmue two along with the 3 people he had to defeat.
Despite this he loses to a low level Yanlang who is just your low level thug leader? Din looks stronger than him. This Yanlang is all muscles and no skills yet Ryo couldn't beat him until he learnt the body check and with so much difficulty, I get why he loses to the red snake leader since that guy can and really knows how to fight but this yanlang guy doesn't and is just all muscles. Just makes no sense how he loses to him and a few times too even though he should have been able to beat him after all the other people he has beaten in Shenmue 1 and 2.

The original Shenmue had some hamminess but this installment really doubles down on the haminess. I don't remember Shenmue being this hammy.

The big town Ryo is in looks like Fenghuang which is in the Hunan Province in China. I did some research and this game is such an enigma. Now, I already know that Shenmue 2 was in China as Ryo arrived in Hong Kong (though it was still a British Colony in 1987) but then a little girl takes Ryo to Rural China, and that was it. Hopefully, Ryo gets Lan Di.
the voice acting feels a tad stiff, but overall it is dubbed, can't really say much about that, but the game overall is Amaazzziiinggg
It is exactly the way i hoped. Just as stiff and awkwardly performed like the other two games. I really like it.
It's a deliberate decision, and I love the game because of it. Game literally has a bunch of known and respected VA's giving it their hammiest.

You do realize Yu Suzuki is 61 years old now, he'll be 79 if we had to wait for another 18 years for Shenmue 4. He needs to developed Shenmue 4 asap after Shenmue 3 or else the story will never be finish. Without Yu Suzuki, Shenmue won't be Shenmue. Shenmue 4 needs to be release in 5 years, not 18 and Shenmue 5 needs to happen sometimes after next gen.

1:25:00 - OMG, this old man may fight like Komaki in Yakuza, but he's a bastard like that one fire teacher from Avatar, making you do a lot of seemingly meaningless tasks before you can even learn anything. XD Catching chickens also reminds me of that infamous sidequest in Ocarina of Time, that otherwise gives you a good empty bottle. :p

I agree... Maybe it come limited in some area dou that budget, but overall i enjoy the game a lot... It was a good way to feel calm and rest in my soul... Especially when i return home and shenhua was waiting for me... I felt like i do have one waiting for me...
It's def better than it's rep but I wish it covered more ground after nearly 2 decades almost feels like an expansion pack(like gta4 liberty city stories or dead island riptide)crazy how he's still wants it to be 6 or 7 games

One thing I can say about this Series... It’s not predictable.. The Praying Mantis was sitting back the whole time watching everything for the Boss Lan Di until She got happy feet and attempted to take out everyone.. The creator has got either a excellent storyteller gene 🧬 or he either seen this type of behaviors and made millions on this series. This series is better than a John Woo flick nah neck and neck..
I waited so many years to play this game, like all of you. I tried very hard, but the game was so bad. I wasted days chopping wood, then I learned to gamble, all to feed that stupid stomach of mine. I would have been able to play through it if they didn’t have that stupid mechanism. After +3 weeks I gave up. Only to find out that nothing is resolved, nothing new is learned after all these years, anticipation and waiting. What a disappointment. I’m still a fan, but very dissatisfied and wondering how this story will be finished off. I’m getting sick of hearing that Baiju village poem. Regardless, Shenmue will always have a special place in my heart. Oh well. Maybe before I die I will find out.
