    So glad I found this video. I've been wanting to get into foothold style trapping but I'm in FL too. This feels close enough I may have to grab some

    I can't stand coyotes. One killed a hawk here in my neighborhood, and that hawk was a long time resident. Everyone recognized and admired it. That being said, coyotes are native to North America. Saying they don't belong because they are invasive is just stupid. Take a look at Google Earth and zoom in anywhere and see just how invasive humanity is. The encroachment is worse than bacteria on a petri dish. upsetting the balance of everything, but it is what it is. My point is People value certain species over others when it is convenient for them. Coyotes are a a nuisance to people and their value is less than the hawk, or the cat, or the dog. You nailed it when you said the coyote was just being a coyote, but at the end of the day people don't want them around. Do the world a favor and steer clear of sheister terminology like "euthanize' or other contrived terminology meant to diminish the reality. You are going to kill the damn thing so say it that way. It won't see another day, but you will, so don't be nice about it for anyone's conscience. Nice video, I admire your skill set.

    Great video and your setting explanation is perfect. We've ordered a Collarum trap for a problem coyote so your video is exceptionally helpful.

    As a solid conservationist, having lived in Florida over 60 years. I too have seen the devastating effects of invasive species. I found it hard to kill Cuban tree frogs until I realized it was Cuban tree frogs that have almost wiped out the many little green tree frogs, geckos, lizards an moths that were once abundant in my yard of several acres. Now Coyotes have moved in, not a single bush rabbit, quail, turkey, or small
    deer Even opposums have become scarce. Losing chickens in broad day light.
    This is taking place in the middle of E. Orlando.

    Quick Catch, how do the three nails hold the trap down?

    • @Kurokubi
      @Kurokubi 4 роки тому +1

      Those three nails aren't the things that anchor the trap to ground so the coyote can't pull it out, they are what keep the part that springs up over its neck from jumping up off the ground and in weird directions because of the terrain.
      What keeps it in the ground are, as he said, two, either extremely long stakes set at angles(cross staked), or stakes that have a special fanned out end that basically lock them into the dirt.

      @@Kurokubi Thank you. I re-watched the video, and you say how its attached to the ground at the start. I must have missed that part.

      They sell a collarum for a coyote and a dog, do you know what the difference in the two are?

      @@ValTexas1 well, just make myself feel better (i.e. even if you already knew and just mistyped), I'm not the individual in the video nor do I upload it lol
      I simply assumed that's what he did, anyway, to answer your second question;
      After watching a video about the domestic dog collarum trap, it appears to have an adjustable stop to change the final diameter of the noose/loop (up to 12") to match the size of the dog you're trying to catch (if you need something that can hold more than 30 to 70 lbs or a diameter larger than 12 inches... I'm so sorry.) It has longer throw arms to accommodate the larger loop and physiology (stature/size) of the dog breeds compared to a coyote, It requires a larger area to set up than the coyote/fox/small dog version, it has a relaxalock (whatever that is) and I think it might have a slightly longer cable(?)

    You mentioned coyotes being non-native to northeast Florida? Well, house cats are non-native to northeast Florida also, let alone the rest of North America, Central America, and South America. Coyotes killing stray and feral cats is not a problem for me. House cats should never be left outside to roam and/or become feral. House cats are efficient hunters of native species as well, including songbirds, and are primarily responsible for the extinction of 33 species of songbirds. Keep your cat indoors, where it belongs.
    Coyotes are native to North America. The reason for the explosion of population in northeast Florida, could be the explosion in the population of wild boars. If you have Burmese python‘s in that area Florida, they may be more responsible for the reduction of many species of native animals, especially if those species migrate north, out of the Everglades.

      @Florida_Bullfrog 5 років тому

      alan30189 Yes cats are bad for the environment. But coyotes are just as bad in the places they do not belong. They are not native to any part of Florida.

    • @guitary
      @guitary 3 роки тому

      Oh geezer. Here we go. Immasculation because a cat is outside. Newsflash, most plants and crap in grocery stores and crops are non native. If they are, genetically unrecognizable.
      Non native is synonymous to mud blood. A term for convenience. If a non native made it here from migrating and can hold a population the term is new native.
      Nobody talks armadillos but boy have they extended their range since 1970.

    • @alan30189
      @alan30189 3 роки тому +1

      @@guitary Oh geez, here we go, another idiot on UA-cam. I guess you have no problem with wild, feral cats killing millions of native songbirds every year, songbirds that would eat trillions of insects per year.
      Cats did not migrate here. They were brought here by people. If they swam across the Atlantic, that would be an incredible feat. Wild boar didn’t immigrate here either. They were brought here by the Spanish. Get a clue.
