They did a traveling stage show with this musical.
I saw the one on UA-cam where they performed it in front of some college crowd or something. They did great but the audience was annoying af. It made the whole thing way too cringe.
The actual cast or did they have actors? If I ever saw this play become an actual thing, I'd absolutely go if it played near me

Mae Laborde, who played Gladys, didn't start acting until the age of 93.
Only in two episodes but I miss her character so much. Glad she had such a long life
I'm pretty sure Mac saying "laughs are cheap,I'm going for gasps" is an intentional summary of the show's goal. This episode is incredible on all fronts.

Honestly I love episodes when Charlie takes charge of the gang, they’re so rare, but they’re always fucking classic episodes.
This is the episode that cemented the show as legendary for me. Glad to see you enjoyed it so much.
The podcast they do for this episode is great, too. They have Lin Manuel Miranda as a guest, and he is a huge fan.
The first scene of the first episode with the Gang's reaction to the black guy cemented the show as legendary for me.

@@gogousa6661 I guess you blame it on those people (which are surprisingly a large amount) who keep saying the show doesn't git gud until Franks comes in or it gets good after season 3 or 4 lol.
The best part of that podcast episode is that they keep trying to ask Lin about his plays and Lin FIRMLY wants to talk more about Nightman Cometh haha

Gladys is a seriously underrated actor in this, for her age, she is so goddamn funny as the pianist!!
The fact that the play is kind of semi-autobiographical for Charlie really adds a layer to the episode. Definitely one of the best.
Had the privilege of seeing this live at the house of blues in Boston. Absolutely incredible night that I’ll never forget

I always like how the gang takes turns being smarter than the others or more dominate over the others. Dennis and Frank are usually the more dominate 2 of the group, but then you get episodes like this where Charlie is clearly the one in charge. Or the Gas Crisis episode where Mac is in charge. Dennis' "You want me to take 5?" bit with Charlie is always so funny to me

This episode was so legendary they took it on tour. Watching their podcast especially about this episode really makes you appreciate them even more so than you already do. This episode for me was the absolute peek of how much I liked this show back in the day. There have been other peeks since then but this was definitely up there and still is, even after all these years.
The first time I watched this, I was in tears. My sister came home with groceries and needed my help right after the ‘boys hole’ scene, and I was laughing so hard I couldn’t even talk or explain to her what I just watched. That’s when I knew this was a one of a kind show.
Remember when I told you to hold that thought after the scene where Charlie and Dennis come up with that song whilst huffing paint? It came back in this.
This is def a fan favourite. It was the second episode I ever saw but definitely gets better once you know the characters. They also did a mini tour of the US performing the musical (and didn't charge entry iirc), which is awesome. You can find clips of it online.
Have we talked yet about how the nightman which Charlie has brought up before in this show is clearly his uncle?
Venture Bros was one of the best series ever in any genre, the amount of worldbuilding and attention to detail was astonishing.
Omg pleaaaase watch Venture Bros, it’s sooooo incredibly good, it’s like the absurd type of humor, with so many references to pop culture there’s no way you’ll get them all… but also the amount of lore and character building rivals that of some of the deepest character driven narratives you’ve watched

I like how the play blurs the line for Charlie’s real life in that, Charlie Day is the Day Man. And he truly loves the waitress, his wife.
This is probably my favorite episode of the show but there are so many great episodes to come.... As far as Adult Swim Aqua Teen was my main show and if you haven't seen that you should totally react to that!!!!!

Charlie Day says he based how he played the writer and director on real directors he worked with in the past, when he started out in live theater.
I think my favorite bit of this episode is Mac heavily enunciating "that boy's SSSSOUL is mine."
the "WHATCHU SAAAAAY" kills me every single time
its also the revelation that not only did his uncle do the thing but charlie enjoyed it is too much 😂 in the episode where he writes the song he has that lament at the keyboard where he's sadly singing something to the effect of "no more nightman and no more of his sexy, sexy hands" 😂
I love how they brought back the song from the band episode, truly a banger

Speaking of Adult Swim, Home Movies is a show I really didn’t appreciate enough as a kid but is a home run as an adult. The dialogue flows in a way that feels so natural compared to most media.
The conversations felt so natural in Home Movies, I've met plenty of Brendans, Coach McGuirks, and Melissa's dads in real life.
My wife and I sing this entire musical when we’re board. “Oh booooooy!” “That boy that’s inside of you” “DAAAAY MAAAAN!!” 😂😂😂 also there’s huge implications that Charlie’s mom pimped him out, this show is so fucking dark some times
It REALLY explains why Charlie is so...childlike. Like, he's psychologically and emotionally stuck at a certain age.
Yeah, based on what you know of Charlie's past, it's clearly about him. The Nightman is Uncle Jack, he'd pay the Troll's (Charlie's Mom's) rent in exchange for being able to R the little boy (Charlie.) The Dayman is Mac, since while it was daytime he could be outside playing with Mac, away from his uncle.
We JUST got to Nightman?!? Man, this show has barely even started!
This is the episode that finally made me decide this was my favorite show of all time. Charlie Day is a fucking genius.

Sunny is so funny, I’ve been there from day one and glad they are starting to get some of the recognition they deserve. I love your break downs and would love your reaction to the FX series LEGION. Created, written, directed, ect, by Noah Hawley the maker of the series Fargo. It will blow your mind just like Fargo did. The show is based on some Marvel characters but is unlike anything Marvel. This is my favorite episode of this season and in my top 5 of the whole series so far.
I grew up with the classics. Space ghost coast to coast. Sealab 2021. Aqua teen. Home movies. Metalocalypse. Venture bros.
This was the first episode I ever watched and pretty much cemented my love for the show from there
This is another one of those "instant classic" episodes.
There are so many fantastic episodes of this wonderful show, but it's really hard not to say this is my favorite of them all. It's just perfect.

Space Ghost Coast to Coast and Aqua Teen Hunger Force are my two all time fav adult swim shows. Space Ghost was such a huge influence on the Eric Andre Show!

Aqua Team Hunger Force is an amazing adult swim show from back in the day, and it recently got brought back!

One of my all time favorite shows. And I love how they have so many call backs to previous episodes like with the paint huffing with Charlie and Dennis writing the night man song to it turning into a whole play. Plus all of the returning side characters that are just as memorable which I find amazing. Can't get enough of always sunny

You have a couple of monster episodes ahead. The Gang Buys a Boat and The D.E.N.N.I.S. system show Dennis at his maximum menace potential. Charlie Work (way off in season 10) is my absolute favorite Charlie episode, it will totally change how you look at his character.
