This is probably the longest clip I worked on. Both my brain and PC-kun was dying in the process XD ALSO, Fun fact about the place holder name Akira used in this clip. When he was still in VTA, he used the kanji form of his name 聖来 (Akira) but changed it upon Nijisanji debut to katakana アキラ (Akira) for easier reading. He's actually one of the the students who have "kira-kira" names and the kanji form of his name 聖来(Akira) is often misread as "Seira" which is often used as female name, instead of "Akira". :D
Akira has such interesting stories... There's a few nijisanji livers that are bi but you never really see them telling stories like this about how gay communities in japan are like
16:50 I think Akira said, “I’ll have to deal with these kinds of people from now on” or something like that, but either way, the sentiment’s the same; he felt uncomfortable with the customer in that moment, so he eventually decided to leave.
I am only 2:15 min into the video but I am already impressed by two things: first of all, that he said "please take this lightheartedly" is a good preface to make tbh. And second of all, how easily he talked about and also explained the gender meter thing. And it totally makes sense. I feel like feelings like this are hard to explain. One could argue you don't have to think about it too hard or try and explain it to others, you can just take it as it is. But I gotta say, I liked his simple explanation, he also said it so matter-of-factly. And I learned from it, because the "If I am with a woman I am more like a masculine, and with a man more feminine" really resonated with me. I thought about my sexuality and gender identification a lot but nothing felt like such a simple fit like what he said. I always said I am more "macho" if I am with a girl I find attractive haha. Feeling not always the same way, be it about attraction or the own gender role, seems really complicated, because you can't really put a finger on it. So it's hard to figure out, but it seemed like he really came to terms with an explanation that fits him and I will take notes from that tbh.
thank you for the translators notes about specific words! I'm in the process of learning JP but I'm not always familiar with some of the slang/super specific lingo, so the notes help me learn new things!
Thank you for translating and subbing such a long clip! Listening to this clip has made me realize I really like Akira and has encouraged me to watch him. I’ll be looking out for more of your translations! Hoping I can work on my Japanese so that I can get to your level of understanding eventually so I can watch without subs.
Rather male or female, people are people and relationships don't change. You will always have conflict with people who have very different goals. The only fix for that is communication and honesty. Being that open with someone takes time to learn though and they have to be willing to reciprocate. If you can manage it, then no matter who you're with you can have a happy fulfilling relationship.
