So I had asked Gilly about IPL 2008 a few years ago, and he said that the DC team didn’t gel well that season because things were still quite new. In the second season, they made it a point to take interest in their teammates and their different cultures/personalities, and this created a much better rapport among them all. Post that season, the Chargers owners surprisingly released Gilchrist and everyone else (except Pragyan Ojha) for the first mega auction. In fact, Gilly even taunted them after he made his first fifty of 2011 against DC at Hyderabad. Post the 2011 mega auction, obviously the whole team underwent a complete overhaul - so it is quite understandable that they weren’t able to perform in 2011/12. Also, the Sunrisers Hyderabad are a separate entity. They are not a rebranded version of the Deccan Chargers. In fact, the DC owners even won a case against the BCCI a few years ago, so yeah - SRH is a separate entity. It was a completely new team that was created to fill in the void left by the Chargers after IPL 2012. Also, it was Gilchrist who prompted the BCCI to come up with a fairer system for the semi-finals because he felt that it was slightly unfair that DC had knocked out DD despite the latter having a much better group stage. Therefore, the playoffs. Now coming to the premise/title of this video, bro - only a lockdown kid would refer to the Chargers victory as a “fluke”. 😂 The team was a literal powerhouse and is a very big nostalgia draw for a lot of us who actually grew up with the IPL. Them being bad in 2008 was surprising even then, and they made up for it in the next 2 years.
