1:38 Yeah imma be honest, I’m hopelessly blinded by nostalgia for Twilight Princess. One of my favorite Zelda games with my favorite designs of the main trio, but that might have not been the case if I didn’t grow up with it.
I stayed up all night with my father at the mall waiting for the midnight release of the Wii. I got it while I gushed about Zelda and games in general with him and when I got it I was ecstatic until I finally got it running. I was up until 5 or 6 am until I passed out after getting the Hero's Tunic. I fucking love TP.
Wind waker's triforce charts quest is overblown. If you stop and just try to do it than sure it can suck, like most things. Although, if you just do it while side questing, which you should be exploring the islands anyway at that point, then it can go pretty smoothly. At least after a second playthrough if I remember right.
I disagree with several of your placements Simmons, but it was nice to hear your thoughts and explanations on these games. Great video. I could easily have watched it and enjoyed it even if it was 3 hours longer
What thinking is there to do after beating Link's Awakening? Is it along the lines of "Does Link survive being stranded?", "Was it all just a delusion from sunstroke?" or something else?
Well, I think for one that there is a message that it is better to live in reality with all its harshness but also meaning and joyful moments, rather than in comfortable or pleasant illusion/propaganda. About making hard choices that are uncomfortable but for a greater good. (Perhaps that's just my poor memory since I haven't played it in a while, but that's what I remember getting out of it). It just depends what you're looking for in games, I have a very philosophical and introspective mind so themes like that pop up for me with ease, in a way that a lot of people would be like "Dude, you're reading way too much in to it." But it's just how it is for me.
Twilight Princess that high up while Wind Waker is that low? This is almost as boggling as your stance on Metroid Fusion The pacing problems you mention in WW are overblown and demonstrated moreso in TP's egregiously boring Wolf Link segments Regardless, I appreciate your differing opinions Simmons, the world is bland and boring without varying hot takes Would be interested to see you do a Yakuza tier list sometime, even though I get the feeling you'd rank 2 and 5 poorly or have hot takes on the polarizing 3/4/6
Twilight Princess actually has good dungeons, though, and the Wolf Link sections are far more interesting that that bloody boring fetch quest at the end of Wind Waker. TP is far more polished and interesting than Wind Waker.
Okami is at the top of my tier list. The only other Zoldur-like I've beaten is Twilight Princess, but I'd still need to put some serious thought into my rankings before I say any more.

I understand your thought process on OoT's story on the surface, but the video "Ocarina of Time - A Masterclass in Subtext" shows the game's story can be pretty thought provoking.
Majora's Mask is designed around it's side quests/planning out your day. To me it's the part of the game I love, for me the dungeons are just a bonus. It's the same reason I love Shenmue 1 and 2. It's definitely not a problem that MM is structured like that, it just doesn't appeal to your tastes.
I can see that you don't like Skyward Sword, but Four Swords Higher? I honestly don't see how Four Swords can be higher than any game except maaaaaaybe Tri Force Heroes, but at least that's a complete game and not a short minigame with randomly generated boring "dungeon" layouts

Same, though I kinda feel like Zelda 2 and Skyward Sword should switch places (but scoot back one in the higher tier), after how I've seen some indie games try to do something like Zelda 2, but better. I like it when I get educated by problematic games, because I get to see what I don't want in a game I would make, and I get to sus out the good bits in the process.

I managed to make a few super cool but really challenging dungeons, and I'm curious about Link's interactions with the Koopalings, as soon as the update drops. Kaizo tech is super rad (done correctly) with Link, especially spike ball pogo sword bouncing. Sucks having only one hit and no hearts, but I really dig it. > I actually used tabletop roleplaying dice to roll up random dungeons for Link's Reawakening. The Majora's Mask crit path explanation was definitely on the money. I have major nostalgia bias towards MM but I would much rather play Twilight Princess for the 10th time; it's just a more fun game.

Skyward Sword is actual gutter thrash and BoTW is overrated low tier Ubisoft making a Zelda game. My favourites are easily OOT, ALTTP followed closely by Tp, mm, all 3 gameboy games and MC.
In the Twitch stream, he said he'd rank it slightly lower since it didn't push the limits of the system, has "eh" music and graphics, and despite all of the QoL improvements, it didn't initially allow you to use the D-pad. He later learned from the chat that a recent update added D-pad controls, however.
Wind Wakers lack of dungeons hurts it. But I love Tingle and actually did enjoy the Triforce quest. I just wish the game had had more areas to explore. If only the game hadn’t been rushed it would be the best game in the series. Twilight Princess has the best dungeons.

botw is best. complaints about broken weapons are not valid. awakening was decent, but c'mon that game is basic af, botw has incredible depth of gameplay and exploration like no other zelda, and zelda is a game about exploration at it's core. wind waker is still criminally under respected as well. game is top tier. og zelda is better than 75% of the others. i might point out that the word is derivative, not dareerative. :)
Thinking back, my enjoyment of majora's mask might have been the first indication I would enjoy soulsborne games. Not because they're particularly similar games, but in both cases the game just wants to hurt you and apparently I enjoy defying that. Because everything Simmons says here is completely true and I fully agree with his conclusion... but I still love it. I would absolutely play it again, knowing full well I shouldn't. TP on the other hand I didn't enjoy at any moment, and I didn't realize it until I was done. I'm not even sure why, I just did not think it was fun. Oh actually I did enjoy the story blips where Zant was a badass and things were creepy. Then that went out the window and I went back to autocomplete mode. I'd rather play SS 5 times in a row than touch TP again. Full completions.

Nah it's got some weakass dungeons. It's art has aged well though. But it's dungeons are not that interesting and that's a key thing with Zelda titles
