    I went through the same realization some years back. I’ve scaled back my subs a couple different times now. I’m looking for a nice balanced sound, which I believe I’ve found with a couple nice sealed 15 inchers. I don’t want any part of my setup to draw attention to itself and draw my attention away from the content on screen. Shaking the house and showing off for friends and family is fun, but it gets old fairly quickly.

    All of your reasons for selling the JTR subwoofers make sense. Thanks for being so candid and transparent. I think the Crowson actuators will help make up for the loss of tactile response from the Paradigm subwoofers. Very interested in your experience once you have everything dialed in to your seating position.

    Definitely agree on the infrasonics. I can’t stand rattle and I’ve worked very hard to stomp them out in my room but those real low frequencies rattle everything. However, I love the tactile feel I get from my four 18” drivers. Solution is easy with a very steep HPF at around 14-15hz. I also think there’s a lot to be said about quantity with home theater subwoofers. Having 2 up front and 2 in back has allowed me to dial in the bass beautifully for all 3 seats. Granted it’s definitely way more bass than I can use, but I just love how effortless it is to create that impact that I didn’t even know existed until I got there.

    • @SpecOfTech
      @SpecOfTech  Рік тому +1

      haha, I am a little weird when it comes to rattle. I actually prefer some rattle in my room, it adds to the immersion IMO. I want my room to feel the effects of explosions as well lol. You are right about having subwoofers up front and behind, it makes it easier to get a good response on all seats. Glad you got your subs dialed in the way you like them brother, that's what this is all about.

    I definitely can understand making changes. You don’t know until you experience it! I’ve got 5 drivers in my room that I’ve moved around. Pretty much settled on just using 2 12”s up front and a 21” behind the couch.
    I too was at one point obsessed with ultrasonics. Eventually I grew up, just a tad 😂 and I’m more about the quality of bass over quantity.

    • @SpecOfTech
      @SpecOfTech  Рік тому

      Haha exactly, we all grow up...just a little! Large quantities of house rumbling bass can be fun, and I still like it sometimes, but you never use it to its full potential anyway. It is kind of a waste of money to have thousands and thousands of watts of house crumbling power, and use 20% of it 99% of the time lol. I am with you on the quality of bass brother, thanks for watching.

    Great Description Between the sound of the 2 subwoofers. I own a JTR S1 sub and the Bass does have a heavy bass in punch bass region...sometimes making the Bass sound hard at times.

    • @SpecOfTech
      @SpecOfTech  Рік тому +1

      I agree! It isn't that the bass is bad, it is incredible bass from the JTR, but it isn't as sharp and concise as the X15. With that being said, that really is about the only area that I feel the X15 excels over the RS2. The RS2 destroys it in pretty much any other category.

Same diameter but two inches longer. And took out the cotton/poly fill. And using foam 2 inch thick and I can really feel the bass and the sound is great tighter and fast response. 👌 I love this subwoofer lol. I might get another one as I have another port the same size. • @chiefnations
      @chiefnations Рік тому

      @@SpecOfTech oh man now that will be something. To me I mean the pb3000 would win I believe because the way the speaker and port are mounted compared to the x15. The x15 you would have to position it to a certain point to make it just as great because of the port facing down to the floor. But also disperses the sound a full 360°. Instead of a front firing mount. It really depends for sure?, it's what I had before the x12 that I have now. And to me my experience so far. I am warming up to the x12 pretty well from the pb3000.

    • @SpecOfTech
      @SpecOfTech  Рік тому +1

      @@chiefnations Did you find the quality of bass from the PB3000 to be on par with the X12, or does the PB3000 have a deeper thicker presentation? You don't miss the low end performance of the PB3000 vs the X12?

    • @chiefnations
      @chiefnations Рік тому

      @@SpecOfTech well from factory from the x12. I would say the pb300 for sure indeed for the deep bass. But once I made the modifications to the x12. I would say the x12 is much better deeper bass and tighter sound. It reaches low as 16hz for sure and the excursion is great as well and surprised how it can handle the loud deep bass with no chuffing after I made those changes. So I'm sold to get another one for behind my couch. And it would be perfect to have.

    Happy to see you getting so much enjoyment from switching your gear all the time to experience different stuff but at the same time I hope you find something you are content with where you don’t feel the need to keep changing your equipment. Keep searching man one day I think you will settle with something where you don’t worry about other stuff to the extent of selling your current stuff to see if it’s more of what you want. If not that’s fine just do you. I’m short no you will not get close to what 3 jtr’s would do with 4 15’s not very close at all. But there will be other benefits to having that different gear. O and you said you sold the jtr’s partly because of how much they costed right? In the aspect of you were tight on money and needed those funds for bills or something ( sorry don’t mean to ask such personal question don’t worry if you dont want to answer) or you couldn’t justify spending that much money on subwoofers because there performance wasn’t up to par with how much they costed, or some other reason? Sorry just didn’t know what you meant when you said you sold them because of how much they were. Edit: o it was because you wanted to get into e dirt bikes isee. I think you just have the upgrade bug to an extreme. I’m glad in a way I’m
    Not like that so I can be content with what I have through and through but also it would be fun experiencing different stuff Al the time. As long as you’re having fun with it and making good decisions more power to you. But it makes me wonder always seeing you upgrade you must not be very happy with most of the gear you get and that can’t be that good of a feeling. Do you think you’ll ever be able to stop this so called upgrade bug if so what will help you do so, finding the right gear for you or just getting over a habit or a combination of such things. Btw best of wishes to you and yours happy holidays

    • @SpecOfTech
      @SpecOfTech  Рік тому +1

      Haha I think you answered some of your own questions there. I do believe that eventually I will stop upgrading my own gear and just review what companies send me. Right now I am still finding it difficult to get companies to send me gear, so in the meantime I need to keep upgrading mine so I have gear to review. For the most part, that is why I keep changing up my equipment. Most of the time it has nothing to do with me being unhappy with the equipment. When it comes to the JTR in particular they perform AMAZING for their price. They compete with subwoofers that cost twice as much or more. I miss the JTR’s, in fact I miss them so much I have ordered JTR subwoofers once again. This time I ordered 3 JTR subwoofers that will suit my needs a little more exactly. Thanks for watching my friend…cheers.

    Hi all, I am looking at getting dual sub woofers for my new setup with paradigm 800fs, 600c and couple p80a's, planning to buy Anthem mrx540. My area is mult-purpose room, viewing area at 12x15 open to the left at another 15x16. I was at the SVS PB2000 vs Defiance x12 now thinking SVS PB3000 but now comparing to Defiance X15. I have never built a theatre setup like this and curious at some thoughts. I want bass where i feel it and after seeing the video perhaps i shouldn't go too much bass. Would the dual X15's be a good fit or SVS3000 would hit lower? Thanks and great videos.

    • @SpecOfTech
      @SpecOfTech  Рік тому +1

      Hey Kevin, thanks for watching. It's tough for me to say definitively, because I have not heard the PB3000 or compared it to the X15. Judging by the CEA2010 numbers, they are very similar in low end output, but the X15 hits harder 40hz and up. The X15 has about 3db more at 16hz, the PB3000 has more at 20 & 25hz, then from 50-80hz the X15 has 1-3db more. They really are quite close and sort of exchange blows as far as response and features. One area that SVS REALLY excels at is customer service and their buyer benefits.
      Here is my personal feeling on it. Since the X15 has strong mid-range output it may be a little better for music, considering that most music bass lives in those frequencies. Looking at the long term output sweeps the SVS has a flatter compression graph than the Paradigm, in the lower octaves. This does lead me to believe that lower bass will perform slightly better on the PB3000. The best advice I can give you is to pick which one works the best with your space, and which one you can get the best price on. The output is so close that you can't really go wrong either way. Here is a link to the PB3000 if you want to check it out: tinyurl.com/bdfwwd7r

    Hey man nice video 👍, and I’m sure the 4-15’s are rocking the joint 🔊! As a fan of infrasonic’s and also the host of just over 200 people over the last 3 years for multiple get togethers that I’ve held I can agree that infrasonic bass is not for everyone. 1st off anyone living in a apartment building or town house a complete no go, that deep bass travels so far and your just looking for trouble, 2nd is yes it does do destruction to your home, I completely rehabbed my whole house before I moved in it and the system really has put my home through the ringer and I’ve had to do multiple repairs. 3rd for a significant amount of extreme ulf it takes ton of dough no doubt about it … and lastly which might be the most important reason is some people just don’t like it, my lady which is a bass head , she loves edm concerts , Metallica , we are going to a korn concert tomorrow, loud music she is certainly a fan. But anytime I do any kind of demo in the theater that includes a ton of ulf it gives her anxiety and makes her sick to her stomach and she dislikes it very much! Also at every get together I have there is always 1 or 2 people that leave the room saying that that super low bass makes them feel nauseous and uneasy. Obviously I get into it that’s why I’ve built my system that way and there are people that love it and have even went crazier than I … I enjoy the very extreme side of things and that isn’t everyone’s cup of tea and that’s fine it’s a hobby and no wrong answers! As long as your having fun…

      Thanks man, and I 100% agree with all of that, couldn't have said it better myself. I have not doubt that there will be times I will miss the extreme bass I was getting with the 3 JTR subwoofers, but I will just have to remind myself, is it worth $15,000 to have it back lol. I think once I move into a new home, that I hopefully build for myself...I will most likely go extreme again. In my current home it is just too much $$ and too much of a challenge with the levels being open to each other.
      These 4 X15's do a great job of everything down to about 15hz or so, and the Crowsons do fill in the low end sensation quite nicely. But...I am quite certain I will play around with different brands of subwoofers in this price range to see which 4 will get me the best results. I am trying to get my hands on an SVS PB3000 to compare to the X15...fingers crossed. It is definitely much easier to get subwoofers in this price range in for review haha. Hey Judd. I wouldn't say these X15's are on par with the PB16. Below 40hz the PB16 does beat the X15 significantly in output, between 5-10db more depending on the frequency. At 40hz they are on par with each other, at by 50hz the X15 starts to pull away in output from the PB16. It beats the PB16 by 2 to 5db depending on the frequency. So if low frequencies is a priority, the PB16 is the clear winner. If you are looking for the overall more impactful and dominant subwoofer, the PB16 takes it. If you are looking for a little more sharp hard hitting bass, the X15 does take a slight win there.

      I was comparing these exact subwoofers before I pulled the trigger on the X15's. They are very similar in output down to 15hz, but the X15's have better group delay and better performance 30hz and up. IMO, the X15 is the winner when compared to the PB3000. The PB3000 is still a great subwoofer and great output for its driver size, but the X15 does take a win here. If you look up the PB3000 and X15 on Audioholics they provide CEA2010 numbers there.

I have been debating selling my PB-13 ultra and getting an 18 or 21 inch PSA but am now leaning towards the paradigm and pairing it with the PB-13 to give a bit more headroom and mid-bass. Hopefully the Paradigm would pair ok, that's one reason why I thought the SVS 3000 may be better given same brand and likely a similar tuning frequency.

      Where do you feel they lack quality? They are just an MDF enclosure, with a wrap, no different than the SVS. Have you owned the Defiance X15's before in your space? The X15's are very similar in price and VERY similar in output to the SVS PB3000. They both have an app, but the X15 also has ARC built in. @@SpecOfTech Oh sure, it's a matter of taste maybe. For me it is the sharp edges and the cheap feeling vinyl, that I have seen peal on the back and corners on one of these. No, I have not owned them, I have had one at home for audition from a local dealer. Me personally, I think SVS SB-3000 runs laps around the X15.

    • @SpecOfTech
      @SpecOfTech  Рік тому +1

      @@xaerothehero I hope to find out, I will try to get a PB3000 to compare to the X15. I agree that Paradigm could have at least rounded the corners and edges. The fit an finish isn't terrible on the X15, but it is an area that could use some improvement for sure.
      If you are comparing the X15 to the SB3000 that is not apples to apples. The SB3000 falls VERY short on output vs the X15, the X15 has much more output at all frequencies. It has as much as 12db more down low, and maintains at least 3db more in the upper frequencies until 80hz and up. So I would definitely have to disagree with you that the SB3000 would run circles around the X15. The SB3000 falls very short in output, has worse group delay and arguably much worse distortion vs the X15. The PB3000 is much closer to the X15 regarding output, and is a much more fair comparison for SVS.

      @@SpecOfTech I highly recommend you ride a modern 150- 450cc first. In fact, I live near Kremmling's BLM ohv land and have 2 bikes you could try if you like. A 2022 plush suspension yz250fx and a 14 kx450f with a woods tune. Both of these bikes are in a completely different category than any E bike on the market when it comes to power acceleration top speed range and capability. The ebikes might as well have a "PowerWheel" sticker on the side of them. There is nobody riding ebikes out here for a reason, don't believe ebike manufacturers claims of 30hp when each hp requires 750 watts or more before losses. Just a Megar 30 hp would require a constant 22,500 watts from a small battery pack. You can find online calculators to help better understand how unrealistic of a load this is. This type of false advertising is similar to how cheap amplifiers advertise power. Ev/bike manufacturers make up their own hp ratings, most of these ebikes make 5hp or less constantly. Even just 5hp requires about 4,000 watts, All of the promotional electric d-bike videos you will find are run on hard packed services with skinny tires pumped up rock hard. You never see proper back-to-back dyno test of a gas bike to an ebike. Also consider, the cold weather has a dramatic effect on your ebike and we have a lot of that up here in the Rockies. You would not believe how quiet a te150i is, and it's a full sized completely capable dirtbike. Anothers consideration is range, these gas dirtbikes do 60 miles reliably under extreme conditions.
      Ebikes won't even make one hill climb up here at full power, pack voltage will quickly sag, amperage draw falls to maintain voltage = nowhere near the advertised hp and tq within seconds. I promise you would not want anything to do with a battery powered dirtbike over a proper single track gas bike here at the Wolford mountain ohv area. Modern 250 CC to 450 CC dirtbikes are rocketships.

      @@Dat_Sun I agree with you man, but I have weighed all these options already, and I also really appreciate the offer to check your bikes out. I have a 4 level split home that takes up most of the property, there is no garage and no room to build one. I will most likely end up storing this bike inside the house, hence why I need something smaller and more manageable. A gas bike just doesn't work for me right now, but I wish it did.
      The Talaria Sting e-dirtbike is basically a beefed up mountain bike regarding size. It comes with 6000 watts stock, but soon you can get a 35kw motor from KO along with their beefed up controller. Pair that with a high capacity 72V battery and it will have plenty of jam, enough to flip you on your back in a blink. I also want something that is less conspicuous for some possible city riding.
