In this video, we show you our aquaponic system, an innovative symbiotic ecosystem that combines aquaponics and permaculture to create a sustainable ecosystem.
In this video you will learn:
    • What is an aquaponic system and how the symbiosis between fish, bacteria and plants works.
    • The advantages of using a home aquaponic system over traditional growing methods.
    • How to implement different aquaponic techniques such as DWC (Deep Water Culture), ebb and flow (flood and drain) and NFT (Nutrient Film Technique).
Additionally, we explore the use of hydroponics and its integration with aquaponics to create water-efficient and completely organic systems. You will see how our goldfish (Carassius auratus) and gobies play a crucial role in this system.
In this video we also address:
    • How to reduce water use by up to 80% compared to traditional agriculture.
    • The importance of nutrients and how our plants grow faster in this system.
    • How to create a self-sustaining ecosystem without the need for chemical fertilizers or pesticides.
If you are interested in permaculture and how you can implement these systems in your own home, this video is for you. Don't forget to subscribe for more content about aquaponics and permaculture in Galicia, and like if you liked this video.

Hi there. Welcome to Permaculture in Galicia. We hadn't seen each other for some time, because we were working on this aquaponic system that has given us a bit of a fight, and today we wanted to tell you how it works and what it basically is.
An aquaponic system of this type is a symbiotic ecosystem in which a virtuous relationship, let's say, of dependence, is established between fish, a series of bacteria and plants.
If we left the fish in this water, continuously relieving themselves, a large amount of ammonia would be produced that would poison them. However, if we associate fish and establish colonies of bacteria, and then pump that water to the roots of our plants, what we have is a process by which those bacteria settled in the roots will decompose the ammonia, into nitrites and into nitrates that plants can use to grow, and at the same time, these plants will return oxygen to the water, thus allowing fish to continue living in the same water and allowing us to have a circular ecosystem that saves on the growth of food. up to 80% water compared to a traditional industrial crop, industrial agriculture, on land.
Therefore, with the current times, in the country we live in and as the drought is advancing, we consider that it is a production system that is not only efficient, but also 100% organic, scalable, modular, localizable, and that also produces protein. . As you can see, here the fish we have are what we would commonly call red fish, goldfish, specifically they are Carassius auratus of that variety, and we do not eat them, for example, in Spain, but in Asia they are eaten.
However, this system is more of a demonstration and educational system, because if it were a productive system, if our objective was to produce, we could, with this volume of water, produce ten times this amount of plants that you can see all around.
There is another very important factor compared to hydroponics of this type of system...
