The Model 2 has been Vandersteen’s best selling speaker of all time, with over one hundred thousand pairs sold. The Model 1 is their second best seller and least expensive floor-standing speaker. We thought it would be fun to go over the current technology in both of these great speakers and do a bit of comparison for you.
If you are after a speaker that can present an amazing soundstage, has good but defined bass impact, and sounds super neutral across the audio range, the Model 1Ci is hard to beat. It is so good that if you upgrade any of your components, the 1Ci will easily reveal the differences. The Model 2Ce Signature II could truly be your last speaker if you want it to. Just don’t come and listen to the even bigger Vandersteens!

Very few speakers at any price have the ability to "disappear" in the room like the Vandersteens. Richard is a genius.
A great soundstage
I have a 20 year old pair of 2ce sigs that I've had for 10 years...damn fine speakers!
Sir, your enthusiasm is contagious. And I love these speakers.
Thank you!!
Nice overview. Loved my 5A's for many years and it's amazing to see the midrange driver form that 20K + pair of speakers in the 2's. Two good guys in the industry. Good info. Going to go listen to my Quattro CT's now...
I have a pair of 2CE sig IIs. I drive them with an EL34 50wpc Jolida amp. Exquisite sound. My wife is always teasing me because I’m crying to the music.
listened to the 1ci with a rega cd player and jolida integrated and the sound was amazing . the entire system was under $5k and sounded better than some $10+K systems
Incredible, right?
I live my jolida fx10 and my Klipsch heresys
These are nice, I have heard them and they sound phenomenal!
Had 2CEs for many years, wonderful speaker, wish they were more available in the UK
Crazy value these speakers offer, I don't get why so many people are going for magnapans, klipsch, jbl. These are so much better for the money, especially in a small room with back and side walls pretty close.
I remember visiting your store on Wade Avenue is the early 80s and drooling over the Vandersteens 2c set up with AR separates.
They definitely have a sweet spot for listening in the room.
bought my model 1s like 25 years ago used.. zero desire to change them out. sound great
Thanks for sharing!
I run my 2Ce’s bi amped. I also have dual 2W subwoofers. One of the 2W’s is over 30 years old.
Love the 2 c, subwoofer combination still one of the best even today😀👍✌
We agree. Thanks for commenting.
The 2Ce's will float an image in the room about like a Magnepan, but way less room/seating sensitive!
A pair of 2C went up for sale on CL. Even though I replied the same day the ad came out, they were gone and of course no reply.
I'm a Magnepan owner/lover, but I have always wanted to hear Vandersteens. I'd bet that I would enjoy them just as much as Magnepans.
They are both classic and great speakers that helped fuel lots of great systems for almost 50 years. Thanks for watching
Very impressive!
Hi, in your experience with the 1Ci, would you say is the ideal wattage of an amp to drive them ? you mention 60W per channel (at 8ohm ? ) in the video.. Many thanks
Have you found that there is an ideal amount of toe in for the model 2?
Are the outer socks easy to replace if torn? They look like they'd be easy to tear over time
There is a UA-cam video on the Vandersteen website that shows you how to replace the cloth sock or a speaker. The link is under Service.
Just got the models 2 for 400$ what a steal I jumped on that as soon as I could . They are so wonderful.
Congratulations! Thanks for watching.
I love my 2ce signature ii’s , every time I say I’m going to get another pair of speakers I go and audition them and they just don’t sound as good , I don’t think I will ever part with them . I’ve owned the Revel Salon’s 1st gen and imo I think the Vandersteens sound better .
Why do you like the sound of Vandersteens more?
@@IliyaOsnovikov Because they sound more natural to me and have a tone that sounds right which many speakers just don’t get right but imo Vandersteens do. I own the 3a Signature’s now and they are an exceptional sounding speaker.
@@Audiofreak71 Thanks.
@@Audiofreak71 I have a pair of B&W 802 D3 Matrix and wanted to upgrade to Wilson Watt Puppies until I heard the Quatro Wood CT’s great sound soundstage and sound more natural. The Wilson’s and B&W are bright which is what I think drew me and maybe others to these speakers. I really want a natural sound, like you said. Plus all the engineering really makes sense and blind sound testing is again good engineering practice.
The spec on the Model 2Ce is actually 86dB efficiency, so they are not the most efficient, but they are just average on the slightly low side.
Yes, thanks for sharing.
The woofer was made by Vifa P21W0-20-08 and the tweeter D25AG-35-06
You got our curiosity up so we reached out to Richard himself. That was true for the very early 1c. The 1Ci uses custom ScanSpeak drivers. Thanks for watching
@@AudioAdvice Scan Speak are very good also, when I build my speakers I bought the Vifa aluminium and Scan Speak soft dome 9300 which was softer than the aluminium but didn't have the air at 12-13 khz so as my ears hear 13 khz yet I choose the aluminium Vifa
I have a vintage- Mcs reciever - modular component system- model 3275,, rated at 75 watts per channel would this be good enough to power Vandersteen 2 speakers ?
It might be enough in a smaller space at lower volumes.
Could I use a triode amp with the 1ci?
Great speakers .. regardless of cost...
Yes they are! Thanks for watching
Wow, I had no idea these were still being made. I wonder why nobody ever talks about them anymore.
Yes, they are still a great speaker. Thanks for watching
Good video 👍
Glad you enjoyed
Are these "bright"?
Not at all. They are very neutral. Thanks for watching
Their videos are all sales pitches and not reviews
Thanks for the feedback.
The only speaker designs to get are time and phase correct. Period. If any other part of your system didn't get this right all the audiophiles and reviewers would be declaring them total garbage. Medowlark was another company that made sure they were time and phase correct. You can buy super sexy cabinets but they will not perform as well.
Thanks for sharing, yes, a classic time aligned design!
I find the whole range has bass response that's inadequate . The Eq for them is too dry . Had 2CE and Treo , but they're uninteresting with tube amps of many makes and output .
I have the 2c's in a cavernous room. 17w x 35d with an angled ceiling peaking at maybe 15'. Jolida 3502s w/EL 34's...50w. With KT-88's - 60w - it's a noticeable improvement.
Not tried anything above that, but it appears they do better with more power.
Vandersteen is a company selling cheap speakers pretending to be hi end.
Nothing could be further from the truth. The drivers and crossover parts they use cost far more than other speakers in the same price range. And just look at all the awards they have won from highly regarded audio journals, plus the bigger ones can be found in many record company executive offices around the world.
If anything vandersteen speakers are underpriced for their sound, parts quality and construction. Some of the more snobbery audiophiles and companies who don't understand that being high end does not always mean high price are just envious of the Vandersteen Co.'s success.
