Most days the bags of nuts are off of the ground up on a little table and the squirrels are already so used to coming directly to me for the walnuts that I don’t think they noticed the nuts on the ground.
Good to see you Mel, Spring is in the air, and the critters are looking very happy. Even right here on the water, it’s 50 degrees here today. Thanks for sharing, be well my friend.
I can’t believe they hop up on your lap and even let you pet them! I have a squirrel clan that I have been feeding for generations about 15 years and only a couple will even take food directly from my hand.
It was an amazing interaction. So sweet. I used to feed squirrels at my bird feeder. Such cute creatures. Did it take you a while to gain their trust ? ❤
I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Thank you! It didn’t take very long to earn their trust but I did spent a lot of time with them everyday. I hand fed them in the first couple of months and pet one for the first time within about three or four months after I started feeding them. About six months in was the first time a squirrel caught a walnut! I have such a good time hanging out with my backyard buddies!❤️🐦🐿️🐿️🐿️
@MelGsBackyardSquirreling I can imagine feeding squirrels by hand. How neat. When I fed squirrels, it was from a plate on my patio. I did not get the chance to pet them. But they did get close to me, though. I love to be in nature with the animals.
@@randy-9842 I cant believe I can tell them apart like I do. I really can tell just from looking out my window which squirrel is outside and it is a second floor window! It’s craziness!

@@MelGsBackyardSquirreling that’s who I use too…but we’ve gotten several bad batches of black walnuts. They have replaced…was just wondering if there was a better deal out there💚🙏

@MelGsBackyardSquirreling Ha, yep hungry and pushy makes many fat birds. Also I've noticed it seems like red squirrels are a bit more willing to contest their food against other critters versus gray squirrels maybe red squirrels are slightly more aggressive something to keep an eye out for, I guess.
@@adcaptandumvulgus4252 The red squirrels are way more aggressive than the gray squirrels!! Sadly for some reason all of my red squirrels went missing around last June. I’m miss them so much! I’m very excited because I have seen one red squirrel around my squirrel area three times lately but not while I was out there! I hope it comes to visit me soon! I would love the have red squirrels around again!!
@@MelGsBackyardSquirreling yeah unfortunately the grays have slowly been pushing out the reds and unless there's active measures being taken the reds tend to be overtaken by the grays. Maybe that's why the reds are slowly being overtaken because since they're more aggressive that uses more energy which is a detriment to their survival chance compared to the grays. There's a biologist out there who knows probably, I bet but you tube Google hasn't come up with it yet.

Yes!!🤣🤣
There is nothing more relaxing that sitting in nature and feeding wildlife. It's a win-win situation for all. :-)
