  • Myanmar or Burma is known as "the Golden Land", we could also describe it as "the Land of Festivals". According to the rite, tradition or ceremony, every region in the country celebrates its ritual monthly or yearly. Among them, Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda festival is one of them.
Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda (five Buddha statues) festival is held once a year in the late of September until mid-October. The annual tour lasts 18 days and travels 21 different places from one village to another village along the shores of the Inle Lake in clockwise direction.
Only four Buddha statues are placed on the barge, escorted by hundreds of decorated long boats and one always remains at the temple. During the procession, the indigenous people are rowing canoes or boats uniquely by one leg instead of rowing by hands.
There is only one place in the world rowing by the leg, where is in the region of INLE LAKE, Southern Shan State, Myanmar. In fact, you would be experienced one leg rowing by the INTHARS in the impressive procession on the water.
Since the pandemic, we couldn't celebrate it plus now the nation is under a dictatorship. I hope that we all would overcome this crisis soon.
