Imagine, if you will: A young man in his early 20's, away from home, installing 'cable TV' a new kind of media in Brockton, Mass. It is 1983 and your arrival is greeted as akin to the Second Coming & the Good Humor Man when your van rambles down the street. One morning, upon glancing at the day's work orders, the address that jumps out at you is- Electric Ave. Yes, I LIVED the 80's!
This song means a lot to me. My dad made special VCR tapes of MTV music videos and play them all on Saturdays. He'll raise the volume whenever this songs comes on and start dancing!
I still remember watching this video when it first came out on Friday Night Videos. I think it was on NBC at the time, 11:30pm-1am EST, circa 1983. I was about 11 at that time and just really getting into music. It was a different time, given that we had to wait a week to see our favorite music videos, but it was an unforgettable time.
Thank you for the memories! I was about 9. I remember this. There were also a few other music video shows on UHF where I got to see music videos, but I don't remember what they were. I think because Mtv was not yet available where I lived (in Queens, NY). Good memories :)
I watched also, as well as Solid Gold from the late 70's. We didn't get MTV and Solid Gold and FNV were the only over the air tv shows that showed them.
I love this song, it always reminds me of when I worked in a bedding factory and they used to have the radio up really loud, it brings back such happy memories of the people I was working with back then.
@@thecosmochannel -- The song actually has a serious meaning. It was written right after the Brixton (London) riots in response to Margaret Thatcher's austerity measures. The idea would be to take it to Parliament.
I can remember being in my 20s walking through Sears electronics department they named Electric Ave., whilst this song played on the display boomboxes. Good times.
This song should have alot more views damn I love it. I miss my childhood when MTV actually didn't suck and played music. I remember when this video came out I loved it great song.
Late 70's to mid 80's Brixton was pure fire. The place was so alive. Lambeth council killed the place. Still such happy memories of the joint and the years I lived there.
I remember when it was just starting to get play. It was spring 1982, and I was on a choir tour in Detroit. My friend and I were listening to an FM station one evening, and they announced a new song just hitting the airwaves. After a few bars, we stood up and started dancing. Maren and I loved it! A few months later, the airplay was easily nationwide. I just played it here in the post acute center I'm in to feel stress after sepsis. Ouch.
I'm a 2000's kid, and oh boy, I wish I was able to experience the 80's, such good music, such good movies, and an overall amazing experience I would assume.
One of the first songs I can remember that introduced me to the concept that not everyone lived as I and my schoolmates did. A love of Caribbean and African music followed as did a growing consciousness of the struggle for social justice. And I almost made a living as a hornplayer in reggae / ska outfits of some renoun ...and still do...from time to time..so thankyou Mr. Grant..Miles..Bird...Dizzy..Peter Tosh...King Tubby...Bob.. and Ziggy Stephen Kymani and Damian...Jimmy Cliff..Desmond Decker....Prince Jammy..Lee Scratch Perry.. .the list..and the struggle goes on and on. For myself...there is no question that Black Lives have-and will continue to- Matter a great deal. Good God! We gonna rock
We should never forget Toots and the Maytels.. Eddy was in an amazing band, in the 60's called The Equals, who originally did Police at my back, then covered by the Clash
I saw this as a kid when it first came out and was mesmerized. I had no idea this kind of music existed. I didn’t find more until many years later. Now - I’ll go out and play with the rock kids, but at some point I need to come home.

And then we'll take it higher
To where?
@@thecosmochannel -- The song actually has a serious meaning. It was written right after the Brixton (London) riots in response to Margaret Thatcher's austerity measures. The idea would be to take it to Parliament.
@@AEMoreira81 I was going to say Electric Avenue...
I just spent 3 minutes of scrolling to see this
I can remember being in my 20s walking through Sears electronics department they named Electric Ave., whilst this song played on the display boomboxes. Good times.
Me and my homies going to Arby's with this one 💯💯🗣️🗣️
This never gets old and I can't stop listening to it on loop!
Singing this and wear my sunglasses at night drunkenly at karaoke nights in the old disco bar. Me and the whole gang. How I miss those days so much.
This is one of those rock songs that will never get 'old'.
Rockin down to Electric Ave! 💯🚴♂️
Dad bought me his cd at a ripe age of 12 and here is me, 20 years later, still listening to that legend
This my jam I love it very much
Yeah boy. Grew up watching skate videos that used this track.

That low beat every few seconds is really a game changer for this song. Excellent tune.

For real tho! Something everyone can get down too!

This song is from 1982❗️
Was good, is good, remains good 🫶
What a great and meaningful song! I've loved this song since I first heard it all those years ago.

Takes me back to a rolling raccoon
Guardians of the Galaxy?
& the people says, givs no time machine ;)
Late 70's to mid 80's Brixton was pure fire. The place was so alive. Lambeth council killed the place. Still such happy memories of the joint and the years I lived there.
Can’t feed all the kids. God god! Hits harder than ever.
Product of 1982 here.... Yes... The 80s were an AMAZING time
73 here and you assume correct it was a blast
black wrestler
Enjoy today. It is tomorrow's good old days
Honestlyyy Sameee here
One of the first songs I can remember that introduced me to the concept that not everyone lived as I and my schoolmates did.
Yup! This song just made me smile!
God there is so much I miss about the 80s😊
❤️❤️❤️Best memories ever!!!! Now at 50 I can still dance to this like a maniac!!!! 👸🏻

In the 80's driving down Las Vegas Blvd at night my dad would wake us up and roll the windows down and blast this song.
Early 80s hell ya!!
I love this song, so retro yet takes me way back to when i grew up in the late 70's and early 80's.
Excellent Song Eddie.❤ 2023
Forget this 2020, 2021 and 2022 stuff. This song is forever!
I saw this as a kid when it first came out and was mesmerized. I had no idea this kind of music existed. I didn’t find more until many years later. Now - I’ll go out and play with the rock kids, but at some point I need to come home.
