I think it's noteworthy that it's the first time in the series that mysterious character of Artur Barciś interacts with one of the main characters. It seems that by the river after his kayak trip he's seen by Anka and his appearance makes her not open the letter from her mother. As he reappers when she admits to Michał that she never opened the letter - it surely isn't a coincidence. This letter was not supposed to be read in order to keep the balance between the characters and let them resume their father/daughter dynamic. Otherwise they were doomed to fail. Great analysis. I'd add something about the aspect of Anka's abortion which apparently took place one year before. But then, she's an actress and I don't trust her, given that she lied once before and was pretty convincing. I'm surprised that by 4 episodes abortion is mentioned for the second time after Dorota's dilemma in 2nd episode. This topic - more than 30 years later - is hotter than ever in Poland right now. I'm surprised how casual all characters (Dorota, ob gyn, Anka, Michał) are about the subject, given weight of this particular project. Broken glass in the door must symbolize the breaking of taboo between main characters. Besides doctor from episode 2, they meet the other man in the basement. In episode 5 he will be one of the main characters - the taxi driver - and unfortunately he won't get his happy ending. He's surprisingly nice here, though.
