      Dangerous and History tours, the choreography was more refined and perfected imo, yet the vocals were playback. Bad Tour had the best vocals, since it was live vocals with some very little playback.

    I can understand why many people thought he was ashamed of being black. His skin got lighter, dimple in his chin, and his nose got smaller than before ( due to plastic surgery and him having vitiligo, but people didn't find out until 1993). Michael was a huge star and representation for the black community. There were so many black stars back then who separated themselves from their black heritage, but it was wrong for them to say he looked like a woman. However, some black people can be hypocritical because once he got into his later teen years, people made fun of his looks (due to his nose and acne).

He never even was trying to surgically remove his blackness. He had vitiligo, lupus, hated his nose, wore makeup to mask vitiligo and lupus, and lost his hair due to burns and lupus. He had both serious physical and mental health issues going on. If you really look at him though, the only surgical change was his nose.

      Your thinking with a bias pov but you need to be realistic, not everyone knew what was going on with mj and why he kept getting lighter cause that’s not usually how vitiligo occurs when someone has it, you don’t gradually turn lighter like that, you develop super pale spots that look albino, he just gradually got lighter not saying he didn’t have vitiligo but because he didn’t look like he had it a lot of people were confused about what was going on with him, thinking he just didn’t wanna be black anymore

      I'm sure "The Magic Returns" was a corny program. Hopefully those TV critics have come to see that "Bad" is a classic short film. But as a child, I would've agreed that Daryl's story was long, murky, and boring. 😅

    • @pappagetti
      @pappagetti 4 роки тому +3

      Here's why you're right. ... He wasn't as far gone as we think at this point. There's pictures of him sitting on the floor in the documentary Leaving Neverland that clearly show that there hadn't been a massive amount work done on him since Thriller. The biggest change was the skin color. And even though he was bleaching heavy at this point, he was also using massive amounts of make-up to make himself look ligher than he actually was ( there goes your vintaligo theory out the window). If you listen to the DVD commentary of the Stark Raving Dad episode of the Simpsons one of the commentators clearly remembers standing near him and noticing that he was actually darker than he appeared on television.

    • @Char-kd6bl
      @Char-kd6bl 4 роки тому +30

      @@pappagetti Vintaligo? It's called vitiligo. And he had it. It's in his autopsy. Yes he appeared darker behind the scenes during 1985-1992 because when it came time to film a video or do a photoshoot, he caked the makeup on and the lighting made him even paler. But truthfully during 1985-1992, he was mainly dark skinned with some pale vitiligo patches. After Thriller, he was only trying to transition to the pale shade because he knew the vitiligo was eventually going to take over his whole body. There's actually evidence showing that he was more pale under the makeup during Thriller than he was during Bad, which I'm sure he wasn't expecting because he was told it was going to eventually take over his whole body. This is because vitiligo is ever-changing and can get worse or better. Mainly worse in the long run. You need to better educate yourself on the vitiligo.

Peoples consciousness........ His skin colour was due to "Vitiligo" ..... He NEVER disclaimed His Race, Family or Colour . Look beyond his skin & see the beauty and talent that goes so much deeper !!!.

      While getting a surgeon to westernise his looks by carving off his inherited black nose and straightening out his natural afro hair (which actually eventually cost him his hair altogether).
      Do you not see how totally contradictory your statement is?
      And you don't have to verbally disclaim your race to actually disclaim your race. Pretty much all of his family bar a few have carved away the heritage from their faces with surgery, so this isn't just limited to Michael Jackson. I tend to call what a person does, rather than what they say.
      Even his kids ended up being anything other than black, I don't believe in coincidences.
      Sorry man, reality check needed.
      It just seems many of MJ's fan base are blinkered. I was a fan of MJ, but it doesn't necessarily mean I was blind to his bad decision making.

    • @Longlostpuss
      @Longlostpuss 4 роки тому +3

      @Gloria Cruz No, just an objective fan who happens to be a proud black person and would never chop off my features to seek validation from anyone.
      Sorry but you're not going to convince me that MJ was proud to be black. He may not have come out and denied his race with his mouth, but he did it with his actions.
      Does that mean I'm God? No, what a dumb irrational response to a piece of constructive criticism.
      You know its okay to be a fan and not think everything someone represented was necessarily always right?
      I don't understand sections of MJ fans, it's almost like you're all in to thinking he was perfect, or nothing, there's no objectivity looking back.
      It's disingenuous to sit there saying MJ didn't make some questionable decisions that ultimately cost him his life in the end. I think people like you and the yes men around him were part of the problem, wrapping people up in cotton wool does not help them in the long run.
      By the end MJ looked not even a shadow of his former self and he was destitute by the time he died. Die hard MJ fans will naturally point the finger at everyone else, but at the end of the day MJ literally carved out his fate as soon as he sold out to the suits. By the end I doubt he even knew who was reflected back at him looking in the mirror and that's why he was so open to manipulation by others.
      That's the sad reality everyone is just going to have to come to terms with. If he hadn't made half the decisions he did, he may still be with us now and in a much healthier state.
      It's okay to say MJ was a legend and a musical genius, but saying he was proud to be black when you see him from the latter end of his career to his passing, is just blinkered beyond belief. Let's not make silly comments and discuss the issues like proper adults like you say with clear rationalised evidence based arguments!

      @Gloria Cruz I don't necessarily disagree with what you're saying and I totally agree that we are all free spirits and it's our prerogative how we choose to live our lives and what we do with our bodies.
      I just took aversion to when fans keep saying MJ was a proud black man in response to this video - he wasn't and this was clearly evidenced by his almost total erasure of anything remotely African on his face. We can harp on about medical conditions all we want (which is the number one go to excuse for most fans), but that's the inescapable bottom line.
      You are totally right about nobody being perfect, but that was precisely the point I was always trying to make.
      Unfortunately, most MJ fans talk like he WAS God and that he didn't make questionable choices.
      In my opinion, the moment he started hacking away at his face, was the beginning of his downfall, very slowly but surely. He sealed his fate.
      You keep harping on about God, well I'm pretty certain God put the features on MJ's face that he was born with and I'm not necessarily convinced that he would agree on him hacking away at the work he created.
      You can live your life how you want, sure, but it should be known that there are always consequences to ones actions and they will manifest sooner or later down the line one way or the other, as we clearly saw.
      Fans need to calm down and objectively reflect on things instead of getting so tetchy, people get triggered so easily these days.

    • @Longlostpuss
      @Longlostpuss 4 роки тому +15

      But given where black America was at that time and where it continues to be, it was a problem. More so because MJ self perpetuated it by eradicating any signs of his God given African heritage from his face and alienating himself from the black community and vice versa.
      You can't go out of your way to go to plastic surgeons to erase the blackness from your face and not expect some kind of backlash from your black fans. Fame comes at a price at the end of the day, especially in Hollyweird and MJ would have been fully aware of this very early on, but was nonetheless prepared to pay it. There literally was no need for any of that, because he achieved relative success before all of that plastic surgery. There's a lot of famous people out there with zero talent that have got by with fake manufactured pop star looks to compensate for it, but MJ literally didn't need any of that crap to get over with anyone.
      Even the whites were wondering WTF at the time.
      Look, ultimately, MJ is a legend and will be remembered for being an extraordinary talent, but let's not pretend he was perfect and that some of his decision making wasn't highly questionable and ultimately crucial (arguably leading to circumstances behind his unfortunate demise). This is what winds me up with some of these disingenuous blinkered fans.
      You can be a fan of someone but still remain objective at the same time, there's really nothing wrong with that.
      Objective criticism doesn't necessarily mean you're hating on, or that you still don't rate said person overall.

      Long Lost Puss He doesn’t need to explain his health issues or insecurities with the world but yet he was forced too. It’s literally no one’s business. He brought out songs like “black or white” and “they don’t care about us” which are songs against racism. During his huge super bowl show he had two massive BLM flags showing, which by the way no celebrities did back then, it wasn’t a “trend” like it is now to post a black square, he did it knowing they would be some negativity about it but he did it anyways because he was standing up for something he believed in. It was obvious he loved all races but people like to make up things because he was at the top of the world and they wanted to take him down.

      @Elli Oni That's the PR version of what happened, I have my own theory on the whole thing and nobody is going to change my mind on it.
      Michael's legacy is a very contrasting and polarising one and having now grown up, taken the childhood idolisation blinkers off and understand how things work up there, I don't think you should necessarily keep buying into the image he or any Hollywood star tries to portray of one's self, the jury is always out coming from anywhere near that place.
      As an artist, I will forever look back at Michael's work with fond memories, but as a black symbol, to me, he fell significantly short of what he could and should have been, which manifested in the tragic way he went out in my opinion.
      Nobody and nothing is going to change my mind on that.

      So you're basically saying being brown skinned with Afro features is not enough to achieve fame? This is precisely why the black community was turned off by MJ at this time, because effectively he sold his heritage out for fame by eradicating any trace of blackness from his face.
      It still amazes me how people still justify this, it's crazy.

      During the Bad Era (1987-1990), no one knew he had a skin condition. He never admit he had it until 1993 by then the damage was already done sadly. I think he still would've been a huge star because his albums after thriller did not sale as much. Also, one of the reasons Bad tour did really well was because it was his first tour without his brothers.

      He did take a feminine approach during this era, the makeup, swooped edges and curly hair were all feminine, which there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. All humans possess both feminine and masculine traits, usually one more than the other. MJ was able to balance his femininity and his masculinity well. Also back in those days people couldn't grasp the concept that just because a man is more in touch with his feminine side it doesn't determine his sexuality. You have artist like MJ, Prince and David Bowie who were feminine but all of them dated and married some of the most beautiful woman.

It was available to watch for free through CBS TV if your TV had an antenna. There were commercials FOR the music video during commercial breaks on every TV show on CBS leading up to its September premiere. It was even announced on the local news. "Stay tuned for Michael Jackson's BAD, the music video, premiering September at 8 p.m. here on CBS". The video itself was almost 20 minutes long and it had dialogue between Welsey Snipes and Michael and a whole boarding school segment before the song started. It was a whole little mini-movie. I haven't seen the video in over 30 years and remember all of that about it.

    It’s funny to me how nobody knew what that man was actually going through behind closed doors. He shouldn’t have to explain himself to anyone for any reason. He lost his hair and he had a skin disease 🤦🏾‍♀️ and he was publicly shamed for it. It was hard to hear some of things that they called him or assumed that he had done when I was growing up.

    I had loved this album his style his new look and hated the critics. Michael did not deserve the constant hate that came his way. Not sure if all the haters and critics can be honest with themselves

    What's amazing to me is that dumb fucking music critics that nobody care about anymore were STILL criticising MJ back then too and talking about his looks instead of his art. Nothing changes, those people are probably dead and nobodies - and MJ remains the greatest entertainer that ever lived. Bas was the album that musically awoke me, my 1st ever album, and I can still recall the shockwaves it sent through my system - it was (and remains) a near-perfect album. As for the videos? Bad, Smooth Criminal, The Way you make me feel, Man in the Mirror and Liberian Girl remain some of the best videos ever made. Period. We love you Michael, thank you for making a masterpiece that's still unmatched in so many ways to this day.

    That was a great video. Thanks for putting that together; it was probably more detailed than even the Bad 25 documentary. Title tracks need a proper exposition because they set the tone for the whole album. It’s just a shame we never got one for “Dangerous” and “HIStory”.

    Fun fact, MJ first album officially released in China is Bad, the translation is "“真棒”. It means "Great" in Chinese. That translation capture the spirit of the song.

    Su autenticidad y esencia va mas alla de su apariencia, muchos se perdieron de ese gran humano al ponerle etiquetas, hizo tanto por este mundo y pudo haber hecho aún más si su luz no la fuesen apagado

      This channel is bogus. It's full of half truths and lies. They're also always sneaking in ways to put Michael down. I don't trust these people. I wonder where they got the high quality Bad video clip however. There is big money at work here and it's not in Michael's favor. I sense a hidden agenda other than just money.
