About 10 years ago in Ottawa, Canada a shop class had a terrible accident. They were making BBQs out of steel drums. The spark from a grinder caused a drum to explode and a kid died. True story. It was awful. The teacher was a former employee where i worked and a regular customer too. Obviously, the teacher never meant for anyone to get hurt, be he was very nearly found negligent for not opening the drums to let fumes out before letting students cut into them. In the end it was ruled to be an accident. And the barrel was originally used for peppermint oil, not gas. Gotta be careful. edit: I'm reading about this again now and it wasn't just the peppermint oil that was explosive. "Earlier Tuesday, Soliman told the inquest he had cleaned the barrel with "engine cleaner" days before and had left it to dry. At some point, someone had put the lid back on the barrel.
