Constitutional republic is the system, Democracy is the process. A constitutional republic has representatives, which are elected through a democratic process. We are a republic AND a democracy. It's a rather simple concept. These people believe Direct Democracy is the only type of democracy, which is false.

Little civics lesson: The USA is a democracy AND a republic. Those two terms answer different questions. Democracy is a question of how leadership is appointed or decisions are made -- if the population votes, it's a democracy. If these things are simply imposed with no input from the public, that's called an "autocracy."
"Republic" answers "How is leadership organized?" There's lots of ways to organize leadership.. monarchy, dictatorship, anarchy, etc. -- "republic" means that there is a council of leaders & each one of those leaders is meant to represent the interests of some portion of the total population. For us, that's congress.
So our government is a "democratic republic" or "republican democracy" -- both terms mean the same thing. It's possible to have democracy without a republic, like direct democracy. It's also possible to have a republic without democracy, like the "Mir" system in Tsarist Russia. We just happen to have both... kind of. Getting deeper into it leaves Civics 101 territory.

Islamic/People's/Federal Republic are actually meaningful terms that changes the operational and organizational structure of how the republic operates. Constitutional Republic is not.

Being "republic" just means were represented by someone who was voted in ("voted in" as in a democracy). Or in other words: "republic" is just describing the type of democracy we are.
