    I had my final exam of biology today. I wasn't prepared at all so I watched your videos yesterday and my exam went so well. I really wanna thank you. I don't know what I would have done without you. The way you explained every concept was incredible. They got stuck in my head. I will forever be thankful for youtubers like you who make such great efforts and explain better than those hours long class lectures in just few minutes. Thankyou very much. *Bows Down*

    Wow, you just summarised a whole chapter in such a short space of time!!! Incredible how you pulled everything together. I think the biggest challenge with this chapter in resp is that lecturers don't make a good connection and everything seems disjointed. I love how you layered everything nicely into the 3 strata (from spirometry to flow-volume loops to the volume/time graph) such that it becomes apparent how obstruction and/or restriction translates across your strata of information.

    I am not even a Medical student, I am a Software Engineer. I went to the pulmonologist today and they performed this test in which I was asked to take the breathe in as much as I can and then breathe out with full force for a few seconds (around 6 seconds). My doctor said you have allergy. I was curious to understand my "Pulmonary Function Test Report Results" and I found your video very useful!

    Always really helpful Armando. I am a big fan!! Under obstructive you say that the ERV increases... If there is an obstruction, shouldn't the amount of air coming out of the lung be smaller? The VRE would then be decreased wouldn't it? I think the confusion may come from the fact that the RV is increased so much -- how can it happen if both the VRI and VRE are decreased one may ask? The decrease in VRE is greater than the decrease in VRI and the increase in total pulmonary volume takes place over time.

    Did you just say that in obstructive diseases, IRV decreases, and ERV increases? Isn't that on the contrary
    ?
    When we have an obstructive disease, like Asthma, we do not have trouble with inspiration, because, while we breath in, our bronchies will help us breathing by spreading out, right? So, we are actually dealing with expiration, because, when we want to breath out, our bronchies are shrinking, and plus we have bronchoconstriction and mucus thickening, so we can't breath out normally. So, our ERV decreases, and IRV stays normal, because, as I said, out bronchies help us breath in?

  • @jinggle100
    @jinggle100 4 роки тому

    In Obstructive Pulmonary disease, the ERV is supposedly to decrease as in say emphysema, there are reduced elastic tissue, as a result of elastase production. This will then reduce the elastic recoil, making it more difficult for the individual to exhale air out. So, yes there is an increase in RV but it must be a decrease in ERV as ERV means the maximum air expired during a forced expiration. On the other hand, some sources state that the IRV in COPD is increased as compliance is usually increased due to the loss of alveolar and elastic tissue. Correct me if i'm wrong. Just want to clarify this fact.
