The Haunted Mansion is a dark ride attraction located at Disneyland Park (Disneyland Resort), Magic Kingdom, and Tokyo Disneyland. The attraction, although differing slightly in every location, places riders inside a haunted manor resided in by "999 happy haunts."
The Haunted Mansion features a ride-through tour in Omnimover vehicles called "Doom Buggies", and a walk-through show is displayed to riders waiting in the line queue. The attraction utilizes a range of technology, from centuries-old theatrical effects to modern special effects featuring spectral Audio-Animatronics. The Haunted Mansion has inspired two similarly themed attractions, Phantom Manor and Mystic Manor, which exist at Disneyland Paris and Hong Kong Disneyland, respectively.
Entering the queuing area through a pair of ornate gates, guests find themselves in the antebellum-era mansion's well-tended gardens and courtyards. The queuing path leads guests past a pet cemetery,[11] a mausoleum with pun names, a cemetery at the top whose tombstones bear the names of the Imagineers who created this attraction, and a white carriage hearse led by an invisible horse which occasionally nickers. Stepping onto the porch, guests are admitted inside the mansion through a doorway on the far right of the house into the Foyer, lit by a large, flickering, cobweb-covered chandelier and surrounding candelabras.
In the Foyer, the deep, resonant voice of an invisible spirit (Paul Frees) sets the tone of the attraction with a short opening monologue, accompanied by a funeral dirge variation of Grim Grinning Ghosts.
"When hinges creak in doorless chambers, and strange and frightening sounds echo through the halls, whenever candle lights flicker where the air is deathly still, that is the time when ghosts are present, practicing their terror with ghoulish delight ..."
A pair of sliding doors open to one of two similar octagonal rooms, which are actually large slow-moving elevators with two sets of walls, the lower of which does not reach the ceiling. The invisible spirit teasingly welcomes the guests (referring to them as "foolish mortals") and introduces himself as their "Ghost Host" who will take them on a tour of the Haunted Mansion. The room contains four paintings, one on every other wall, each depicting a person from the chest up; previous guests "as they appeared in their corruptible mortal state". The portraits are flanked by eight leering, candle-holding gargoyles. The entrance door closes, forming a panel in the wall, during which a Cast Member instructs guests to keep toward the "dead center" of the room. As the Ghost Host delivers his spiel, the room begins to "stretch" vertically. As the floor descends, the visible extent of the upper walls increases and portrait frames (located behind the lower walls) appear to elongate, revealing the grim fates of the previous residents. The paintings humorously depict macabre situations: a beautiful young girl holding a parasol is shown to be balancing on a fraying tightrope above the jaws of an alligator; a middle-aged bearded man holding a document is shown to be standing atop a barrel of dynamite in his boxer shorts with a candle lighting the fuse; a smiling elderly woman holding a rose is shown to be sitting on the tombstone of her late husband George, who is depicted as a stone bust with an axe in his head; and a confident-looking middle-aged man in a bowler hat is shown to be sitting on the shoulders of a frightened-looking man, who sits on the shoulders of a third man who is waist-deep in quicksand, an expression of terror on his face.[11] As the Ghost Host challenges guests "to find a way out" of this seemingly windowless and doorless chamber, he concludes his speech with,
Of course, there's always MY way...
With a sudden thunderclap, the lights go out and the ceiling disappears. A ghastly vision manifests above: the skeletal corpse of the Ghost Host dangling from a taut rope inside an octagonal cupola with four curtainless windows (rather than the hexagonal cupola with six curtained windows seen on the exterior), illuminated by flashes of lightning. Seconds later, the room plunges into darkness, and a bloodcurdling scream is heard - falling from the ceiling to the floor, ending with the sound of the corpse hitting the floor.
That's what I like most about your channel, it's not all one theme, not just 1/35 WWII, not just 1/24 or 1/25 cars, not just sci-fi. It's the diversity of all the things you build that I find most entertaining, pretty much something for everyone ! Love it Chris, keep it up mate !
Thank you as always! I love all kits!
I absolutely love when you review build these kits. My son loves these builds and has built all of the kits you have done. I never thought anything could get my son's attention away from his playstation and xbox but your review builds have done just that. He has become as passionate with model building as I am and I Thank you for sharing and making your builds fun and extremely easy to follow for all ages. Keep up the great builds and look forward to many more builds. Everyone keep yourself, family, and friends safe and healthy. Remember to smile
Thanks a million Teddy!
I love these type of kits Chris. You can go whatever color/style/detail/weathering you wish.
I agree!
Very different. But worth watching.
To funny 😆.
Kit came out great 👍
Mike Espo .
Thanks bud!
Always a fan , Mike
I had this kit in the 70's lost parts of it over time but just last year I bought it again had a lot of fun painting and putting it together after 40 years ,I pick up an original Haunt Mansion box many years back at a flea market for 20 bucks and I just place a newer Haunted Manor kit inside the 1970's box WOW! this was my favorite one of them all
Wsy cool Chris. Thanks for the review and sharing
Thanks for watching!
That looked a lot of fun to put together and paint, excellent job Chris. Keep them coming.
Thanks, will do!
A lot of intricately detailed parts in this kit as well..
A FABULOUS job on this build!!... Looks like the grave robber is very hard at work!!.... Keep up the great work Bud!!
Thanks 👍 as always Tom!
He looks quite happy at his work!
Fun build Chris good looking kit👍
Thank you as always!
"And a happy little clod of dirt might live right here." A light could be put in that lantern so easily. Even a flicker bulb. Nice to be able to see stuff about the kit. To all you companies out there, this review channel works. Especially well with scale models, but, all product reviews work here. I have been exposed to so much with hpiguys Workshop. Nice paint job. I got instant satisfaction when green went on the tombstone.
Thanks for the support Daniel!
I'm considering Dremelling out the lantern "glass", gutting one of those orange Halloween LED votive candles, and installing it inside for a flicker flame effect. I think it would look pretty cool in low light.
wounderfull Paintjob !
Thanks!
Great job Chris awesome detail as always
Thank you! Cheers!
Love watching you build these!
I used to skip over these builds/reviews ...
big mistake. I was missing out on a lot
of fun. There IS more to modeling than
just cars. Once again you nailed it...
( not just the coffin). THANKS!
Thank YOU!
Love the glow in the dark lantern thanks again!
You are so welcome!
These are so neat - glad you do them.
Thank you!
My mom got me this kit in 1974 on the way to the pediatrician's office (I was sick but I remember this !!). I guess it was a reward for being good at the doctor. The original issue does not show the hat on the box. I don't remember if it had the hat, but it isn't on the model on the cover of the package.
Thank you as always!
great way to mix it up and take a break from cars and military models
I'll build just about anything and have fun!
Fun build of a fun kit, lovely
Thank you as always!
Nice job on the small fine details...
Thank you! Cheers!
A lot of well detailed parts with this kit...
😎 extra details you are adding to this build..
I just built this kit. It was a lot of fun!
Another good one
Thanks again!
Wow, this looks great, I like how it glows in the dark. You can either paint it, or not paint it and have the whole thing glow in the dark!
Thank you! Cheers!
Really enjoy this channel.
I appreciate that!
Thank you. Enjoyed this one. I need to order one.
You should!
These are great. Great work ( fun )on the model. The addition of a UV led I was going to drill out the bottom of light and base to try and get it lit on the inside of lantern. Haven't tried yet but will when I open kit to test the effect also an idea is to put a shield in the shoveled out area and hide UV led behind it to cast light on lantern. Just thinking out loud.
Glad you like them!
Creepy 😬👍
Can't wait for the rest!
nice work, yes 4 years ago, i know. i,m working on it now. in the netherlands. love this kit, and make the best of it. don,t know how to sent pics. greetings Ruud.
Hi. Im starting to work on warhammer minitures. I discovered wargaming minis from the model side of the hobby so I dont really have a army, I just want to paint them all. But I might try this build and practice my OSL ( object source lighting) like I said before love the videos.
I buy Reaper minis all the time! Love them!
Great job!
Seems to be a theme with this type of model kit. The dead don't rest in peace! They're always popping up and scaring the #@%?! out of some foolish mortal! 👻
Thank you as always!
Looks cool
Thank you!
Had this as a kid, those rubber bands drove me to insanity. I remember mine being a total glue bomb too lol
Get the reissue and try again!
What kind of glue do you use after you paint them and assemble them
I like the techniques used and the reveiw. I hope you do one on Flight of the Vampire.
On the bench right now :)
I love your channel!
Thank you so much!
great channel, man! i loved these kits as a kid and i love them now. Quick question for ya. I notice you put glue on painted pieces. I've always heard that you need to glue plastic to plastic or the bond isn't very strong. i usually spend time w a file and or pick to scrape away just enough paint/primer so that the pieces will bond properly. have you had any trouble with the plastic holding together? again, great fun watching you build these kits!!
Final assemblies are with super glue and I haven't had any issues, but I'm not rough with my stuff either. It sits in a storage box.
I'm sure if I wanted to box it up and mail it some stuff may pop off.
How did you get yours to work ? I loop the rubber band over the post and hooked at the bottom. His arms won’t flip over and hit the guy in the cap ?
I assembled it per the directions and didn't have an issue.
@@hpiguy I just split the dead guy a part this morning with a razor knife on model .the middle plate I had on backwards , that happened when the arms were reversed left and right . Thanks for the reply
Scary? Dig it !!
Thank you as always!
It reminds me of the scene in Young Frankenstein when Gene Wilder and Marty Feldman were robbing the grave of the "The Monster."
Thank you as always!
How many haunted manor kits are out now
Great job! I’m finishing mine up now. Have you heard anything about the fourth release (organ player)?
Not yet! But I will build it when they send it!
I remember getting the organ kit at a flea market as a kid what a awesome memory
Pretty build once more. Just one question: Why did you put the green for the moss before the grey for the used stone? Shouldn't the grave get used before moss grow on them?
Layers and layers, one over the other.
Paint the lantern glass clear yellow, so it will still glow.
Nice idea to try with uv led effect.
Good idea to try!
How many haunted manor kits are out now?
Two out right now, with the third making it's way to stores soon, I have it here.
👍👍👍
Thanks!
I follow you and do moldels, how do you do sub assembly’s
I glue the model together per the directions.
My first, first. Love the videos btw
Welcome!
