FZD vs. 2FD - F-ZERO 99

- On June 30th, FZD and the Japanese FZ99 community lead by Flan, hosted the "FZD vs. 2FD Event" -- a Team Grand Prix with 49 pilots representing FZD, and 49 pilots representing the Japanese community, with the total amount of points collected by those finishing the GPs determining the winning team.
King League: Quite happy with how MCIII went for a change and I was off to a pretty good start. But then DWII immedately pulled me down as I kept doing crucial mistakes throughout the track (badly timed skyway, missed dash-plates, ill-timed spin attacks). Still happy to survive it at least. PTII usually goes pretty well, and no exception here -- a solid performance. Then on RCII I found myself in the starting position closest to the mines, and thought I'd go for the strat of hitting one to get more speed, and then trying to get another bump from the traffic to get up to full speed early on, which turned out really well and lead to a relatively stress-free lap 1. My strat then was just to gradually let the field catch up to me, to build up to a late skyway. I think I could have done it a little better though, but still pretty content with how it turned out. Closing it out on FF I played decently I thought, with just some small hiccups here and there.
Overall not a bad GP, with just DWII sticking out like a sore thumb and preventing this one from being really good.

Mirror Knight League: I have to admit I was a bit taken back with how smoothly the start of mMCI went for a change, so much so that I think I got a little too trigger-happy with the boost, and likely boosted one too many times as a result. But really I just fumbled this one away, and there just aren't any good excuses.

Queen League: MCII and its mirrored counterpart usually don't go too well for me in super stacked lobbies, and no exception here either. I see Stingray doing pretty well here though pretty often (3 Stingrays in top 10 in this race), so clearly I'm missing something. PTI then went pretty alright with a top 10 finish (featuring a pretty scary ending). on RCI I had a pretty rough start, but then got a perfectly timed skyway which put me in a great position to finish this one at the top. But what can I say... I just kinda blacked out and drove straight into a red as I was trailing Misa, which lead to an unwanted roller-coaster ride that cost me both time and position, but more importantly invaluable energy. I still could have finished this track, but I continued driving poorly instead, and ultimately didn't deserve to survive this one.

Mirror King League: My concentration-level was not at its highest it's ever been at the start of this GP for whatever reason. This could explain why I ended up missing the dash plate in the start of mMCIII. I then messed up my boost too (you want to hit all the coins to get up to max speed as Stingray), and at the start of lap 3 I probably should have filled up my energy again as it was starting to get pretty low. At the very least, I should have refrained from going for the same boosting-strat as it clearly was not going to work with the amount of energy I had.

Overall thoughts: Not my best play that's for sure. I was pretty happy about King League, but then it all turned to shite, and I'm pretty dissatisfied with how I performed in the rest of the GPs. Still, my team won in the end, and it was a fun event to play in -- it's very cool to see a team-event in this game, which I think have more potential. So shoutouts to the organizers for putting on a great event!

Next event for me will be the PW Cup Online which will be held on July 14th. I'm also looking forward to the new update for the game that's seemingly dropping this week.

It's very cool seeing different sides of the community coming together to organize such an event. Haven't been playing F-Zero 99 lately, but it's always nice seeing the community set up these sort of events and remain active

Ahhh. So these are the FZD players I've been seeing my lobbies. I'm at S15 now, I'm The Zaaz. I have definitely seen some of these names in my games. That's a cool feeling.

I wouldn't survive a race in these lobbies. Misa pretty much made sure FZD won. When i saw Misa in the FZD team i was like: "Welp FZD won."

Why did you go behind the line on the first lap of Fire Field in regular King League?
On Fire Field it doesn't really matter too much how you're driving the first lap, as what's important is that you collect enough sparks to do the skyway on lap 2. So if I'm not at the front at the starting grid, I usually turn around and take the dash-plate to get up to max speed quickly. Stingray then has the benefit of being able to do a wall-hit at the S-turn to maintain a lot of its speed through that section, so you end up catching up to the rest of the field pretty quickly if done well.
