    This was a very interesting video. I was browsing around for a video showing an MR system quench for a presentation. This was really neat to see the coils actually be made.

    Many thanks! This is pretty rare information.

    FIrehose of dense information. Presented TOO quickly really - the "flux pump" section was particularly confounding. That's my problem though and not the presenter's! Why would HTS magnets need a constant power source?

    • @bhadeshia123
      @bhadeshia123  3 роки тому

      Any change in the current through the coil leads to a large voltage spike, mechanical stress in the windings and eddy currents, all of which can precipitate a quench.

      @@bhadeshia123 right but I'm just saying I don't really understand why that's an issue in HTS but not LTS. what about HTS makes it different if it's in the superconducting state?

    Still using liquid helium?
    Surely they have since moved on to using YCBO superconductors?

    Change the frequency and kill cancer or viruses/bacteria and heal bones. It can be also used for an engine or generator.

    Sounds like a sudden quench would make a great EMP device

    **THEY DO A GREAT JOB BUILDING THE MAGNET**
    But magnet-builders are nearly 100% clueless about the *_*exact physical nature_** of how the magnetic field manifests itself in the space around the magnet.
    He said at time 5:40 "The stray field goes out about 40 feet" outside the magnet.
    That's easy to know, because the stray field can be measured.
    But if you point out the following, no _informative_ answer will be forthcoming:
    "You say that the stray magnetic field will be 40 feet deep outside the magnet - you are aware that this will hold true in the vacuum of empty space, correct? In other words, if you carried this 7 Tesla magnet into space and turned it on, you'd have a 40-feet deep magnetic field surrounding the magnet? Point being, no atmospheric gases are required to manifest that magnetic field - you know that, right?"
    ANSWER: "Yes, of course. Magnets absolutely work in empty space - otherwise, none of the space vehicles and satellites launched from earth would have worked, since they all use electromagnetism in their electronics, including areas outside the habitable spaces. Magnetic fields absolutely function the same in the emptiness of space."
    "Alright then - what is the physical nature of the magnetic field, since we know that no atmospheric gases are required to manifest the 40-foot deep magnetic field this 7 Tesla magnet creates?"
    ANSWER: "It's magnetic lines of force. From Maxwell's equations."
    "But what is the physical essence, the 'carrier substance', that allows the magnetic field to be a continuous entity stretching 40 feet deep?"
    ANSWER: "Magnetic lines of force."
    This has been a 'blind spot' in science for all of human history. Very few people know the correct answer. The proof is, if you ask the similar question "do electromagnetic waves propagate by way of a medium in empty space?" the answer will be "light waves, radio waves, etc. - do not require a medium to propagate."
    Not only does the majority of science believe that, they do not even realize it should be challenged.

      Thats why the electromagnetic force is listed as one of the four fundamental forces and everyone agrees to consider it as an axiom at this point. Probably there is deeper stuff at work, feel free to figure it out.
      Cheers.

      @@MrFujinko The particle-antiparticle 'soup' of the QED (quantum electrodynamic) Vacuum is the 'deeper stuff'. This is at least part of the answer. Thanks for encouraging all of us with our curiosity that investigates beyond the conventional!

      @@Greg_Chase What about this Casimir effect and virtual particles, stuff can just pop in and out? Is it the vacuum itself changing?

    • @Greg_Chase
      @Greg_Chase 3 роки тому

      @@MrFujinko I stopped publicly talking about this because there is very deep, passionate conviction in the mainstream about status quo 'modern physics.' I got sort of fatigued about the grief it caused. When it comes down to brass tacks there is always a demand for repeatable measurements and the insistence that "you cannot reason along those lines because our present ability to measure Nature at that level does not exist."
      One interesting point that is always suggested about virtual particles is that they 'pop into existence' and then self-annihilate. For example an electron-positron pair pop into existence and then annihilate.
      If the QED Vacuum was (partly) a 'soup' of electron-positron pairs that are constantly annihilating, there should be a massive gamma ray component of the Vacuum. The reason is, it is known that the annihilation of an electron and positron emits gamma radiation.
      When presented with this, the usual defense is "virtual particles don't really exist" and that "they don't really self-annihilate" and that "virtual particles are a mathematical notion only - not physically real."
      There is a massive investment in time, money and career to participate in mainstream physics. The near-complete majority of such people will defend convention as if it was their first-born child. I'm in no position to persuade anyone anymore. But lines of inquiry into the exact physical nature of magnetism and gravity are rewarded if you cast off convention when it becomes necessary.
