Thanks for posting this video. I’m just about to replace the battery in my own tank pod. I would echo the previous comments and add that the silicone lubricants do not form a seal (the o ring does that), but help the ring to move without getting pinched. Lubricants are magnets for dirt, so just the tiniest amount is enough.

Ok aside from not using petroleum jelly, if you use any amount of Nitrox and it contacts the petroleum jelly the results could be bad. Oxygen and oil don’t like each other. If no silicone based gel is available it would be better to use a little soap and water applied with a Q-tip. Hope this helps.

As a recreational scuba diver I don't use nitrox though may do so in the future so will definitely check out the effects of nitrox on o-rings lubed with petroleum/vaseline jelly from the staff in my dive centre.
My equipment, regs, tank, etc is serviced at a dive centre and I would recommend everyone do that if they're able.
      Thanks

Always replace your o-ring, they are cheap. Also never use petroleum jelly it will degrade the o-ring.

It's recommended that you use a new o-ring but if the original is good and you don't have a replacement then you could use it.
It's said Petroleum jelly will degrade the composition of the o-ring over time. I haven't had any problems so far though I would have used silicone gel if I had any at the time

Good video but never use "petroleum jelly" ! (valvoline) it will break down o'rings and other plastic parts.

Yes I totally agree and as i explained it was a short term fix as it was overdue to go in for a service and overhaul.

Yes, I do agree with that. Good for a short term fix. However the chances of it damaging other components are to high for me.

There is a chart rating the effects of petroleum jelly on different elastomers. On natural rubber it's rated as fair to good for water resistance.
2 weeks after the video was shot it went in for it's service/overhaul. There were no problems or issues reported and it's working fine
