  • This is a video is dedicated to the late English fisherman John Wilson may he rest in peace. On this day we were in pursuit of a very special silver fish that makes its journey into Irish fresh water rivers to spawn but once a year. In May 2021 myself and my nephew ventured down to the river Barrow at St. Mullins in pursuit of the beautiful Twaite Shad fish. What a wonderful experience, one I will cherish and I hope we get the chance to revisit this amazing location each spring time for many years to come. Many fish were caught and just as many evaded us with their amazing display of acrobatics! An unbelievable fish, absolutely beautiful and such great fun! We had time to cook some sausages and sample the lovely lovely coffee from the Mullichain Cafe: themullichainc...
    And a huge thank you to my nephew Oisin for coming along.. Such a great lad.. I hope we have lots more adventures over the years :0) Kayaking is next on the list!

    Great video Mike and lovely tribute to the legend John Wilson. I fished st mullins for over 20 years beautiful spot only caught my first specimen shad this year just over 50cm. Its great spot for specimen dace early March and specimen roach in April. Had bream over 7 pound just where ur fishing all on feeder rod maggots and lob worm. Also some lovely roach bream hybrids 👍👍👍

      Thanks Derek 😁 I loved John Wilson when I was a kid . I was very sad to hear the news ... a reminder of how little time we all have ! Shad are a beautiful fish, really enjoyed catching them . I can imagine a specimen on the line , you must have enjoyed that 😅 Some jumpers , great craic. Must go early next year for a Dace or a Bream , sounds great . Some spot down there , I'd love to go and camp. . Might meet you there next year and the coffee up the road is savage 😁👌 Cheers for the comment Derek , Mike 🎣

    Has anyone tried fly fishing for them? I am thinking of heading down from Cork.

    • @WildIrishSoul
      @WildIrishSoul  2 роки тому

      I'm not sure about that but if you can get a descent cast with a fly im sure youd have no problem. Well worth a try, and I bet they'd be great on a fly rod. 😁👍 Wet fly might work best. Give it another week or so to pop over, theres not too many around at the moment , 👍👍
