When hunting ice I dont send my dog past 40 yds. If he gets out further and gets caught up I will take a swim. Id rather get wet and cut the hunt short than lose my dog.
Was it just me or did anyone else notice this in my opinion OS the most steady fred has ever been. Bob shoots then he's usually off but he had to say fred most times after shooting to send him. Smash the thumbs up for that dang dog yall!!
Hot dogs! Bring a bunch just in case you get hungry too. High fat with some protein. I would never send my dog on ice with deep water. We have had it thick enough for the dog to run on top of it but they can break through. Fun shooting in the ice hole. 👍👍
Your dog struggling in the ice brings back memories. My ole summer dog (yellow lab) bailed out the boat after a sailed goose. 100 yards or so later she got the goose. 15 yards from the boat she didn't have any more energy boat had froze into the ice and I didn't have my waders on...still jumped in cold as all get up but got the dog the goose and a story I suppose haha.
I’m 35 years & & have had labs my entire life. You’ve got a special dog there!! For him to be on his first season & perform the way he has this year is something else. Just wait until he is 5 or 6 years old!
Hey Fred I was so worried I was holding my breath, so happy you are ok and you got straight back in the water like a trooper. A message for the little guy “PEACE” Stay safe and stay well. Ash🏴
Just wanted to say thanks on the tip on taping hand warmers to my socks since my husband and I started doing that . No more cold toes. Thanks again and we love your videos! Love Fred too!
BobbyGuyFilms the closest that I had an experience with sketchy ice is my first goose ever landed in a partially frozen pond, dog got the goose but instead of swimming tried to get on the ice and broke through a couple times. She made it back ok and I got my first honker!
That ice can be extra tricky for sure. Its nice if they can walk on it but once they fall thru man it can be deadly if you arent careful!! Good save bob
Great hunt Bobby....thx for including the Shotkam footage....enjoying the shots in slow mo. Experienced similar event with my dog years ago, but I would have had to swim to get him...12 ft deep. Thankfully he finally got traction and made it out....as I was unsnapping my waders!
This is crazy I live in Missouri and the ice never got that thick I havent killed a single duck or goose because I Started this season but you guys at dux inspired me to duck and goose hunt thanks so much for what you do
Great video Bobby!! Definitely proud of Freddy!!! I recommend bringing something for Freddy other than Pretzels to give him extra energy on those super cold mornings!! Beef scraps or fat works well!!!
Bobby get a small Honda generator they’re about the same size but theyre so much quieter they won’t be spooked from the sound as much well worth the investment
No matter how well trained my dog is I don't tend to send him out in ice if I can walk it. However if the ice is thin and water depth is shallower then I will work dog with caution. Just be safe and remember no bird is worth more than your dog
I have only killed one goose this entire season The season ends Sunday. It’s just to warm to hunt them ducks! It really sucks I have not killed a single duck this season
If water too deep to wade u absolutely must have a boat close by. Best to wait and use boat at end of hunt to pick up ones on ice. The hole looks better if you don't break out a bunch of trails to dead birds also.
That looks so fun, in southern California it seems like most of your chances are fly by shots. Most around you are sky scrapping and the birds just don't fall for it. Avg duck count per blind is like 2.4
Hi Bobby, yes very good video. Fred really really worked hard for you there. As for dogs on frozen water like you said had it been deeper, It would have been bad news! I have friends who have lost their dogs due to ice and very deep water. They go under the ice and can't get back up. Well done Fred, sort out Bobby|| :-) Malc and Ann UK xxx
Run a long rope on his back loop. No loop or knot to get caught on anything. As it strings out behind it could be the life line you can reach if he gets in a deep section and you can reach the end of the rope. Just an idea.
Man, I literally quit breathing for a minute! Had a scary moment with my guy a few years ago on some ice. It’s one of the worst feelings ever. He just wanted to work and please and it could’ve gone south fast. The look of fear in his eyes as he looked at me for help was heartbreaking. I won’t ever put him in that situation again. He’s too important to me and the family. Glad everything worked out with ol Frederico! That guy is a beast! ❤️❤️
Thanks for sharing your video! I was wondering how the generator would go around the ducks. Looks like you started hammering em after you turned it off. Good move!
Im sure others have commented already, but that ice can be nasty on dogs. My dog has been cut up real bad in the past and missed out on the rest of the season... you know what you're doing but just stay safe! Love watching the videos and Fred
Cooked up some duck poppers for some of my friends last night from the mornings hunt. His son is 4 and inhaled the poppers and didn’t touch his ribeye 😂. Keep slayin’ em boys!!
Hey brother great video - so glad Bobby got after you in that ice.. Next time have Bobby tie a bowline knot with float rope on you when he sends you in unknown depth water that is iced or even long runs in cold water...aright dude high paw...
Bob you need to protect your ears man you gotta get some ear protection you can get some that you can have better hearing with but it cancels out shotgun shots it makes it easier to hear the geese
Bobby is it the only open ice around or only open water lol and you should bring some straw or a blanket for Fred to lay or sit on to help him keep warm on those cold water hunts and cold days could help keep him retrieving for longer in the day
You could bring a little buddy heater for him when he’s hiding in the blind between flights of birds to keep him warm Run a longer extension cord for the genny /run more ice breakers
A doggy life vest could buy you more time to get to your dog in a similar situation plus helps the dog expel less effort on long swimming retrieves. The cold zaps more energy from the pups than people think, why not make it a little easier for them? I’m with the many who have mentioned that iced over moving water is a no go for the dogs
you have to be able to call your dog off any bird. for example ice, long swims in hyperthermic situations, poison birds. whistle training is what i use and follow up with the e-collar.
Shane Manges no I’ve never hunted with an outfitter. I usually go on public land outside of pine bluff (very close to Stuttgart) and box people for a spot
I took off my waiters once and swam and got em luckily it was on priv so the truck was running and already warm so I and the dog got wright in I bring hi fat treats and cooked cheap steak anything for the pup
Bobby you should never let your dog go that far in the ice you could have lost him and if it drops in the ice just leave it and go get it later also if it would have been to deep you take your waders off and go swim out there and get him I know it’s cold but you got to do what ever it takes to keep your dog from drowning
EVERYTHING IS BACK IN STOCK AT DUX WATERFOWL!! bit.ly/AFFDUX
BobbyGuyFilms love you bob
Everything but your calls... looked through the whole site and can’t find em idk if it’s just me
Billy Boy paint comes off of the call within the first day. No return policy, it’s polycarb not* acrylic like they say.
Jacob Melchert THANK YOU!!! I was just about to buy one
When hunting ice I dont send my dog past 40 yds. If he gets out further and gets caught up I will take a swim. Id rather get wet and cut the hunt short than lose my dog.

Dang bobbi boi..had to rescue your 3rd child..I love ole fredrick .I watched him grow up from day 1..take good care of my buddy
When I hunt my dog hard, especially if it's cold, I like to bring cooked beef or pork fat for some dog fuel while hunting.
Great idea thanks so much for sharing this
Hard boiled eggs. Protein bombs and they have their own natural wrapper. Doggos love them in the duck blind.
Hot dogs! Bring a bunch just in case you get hungry too. High fat with some protein. I would never send my dog on ice with deep water. We have had it thick enough for the dog to run on top of it but they can break through. Fun shooting in the ice hole. 👍👍

oh wow man that’s so scary!!
Anything for my pup if it’s that close my dog helped me when I was suicidal and helped me get out of it I’ll try my best to help
Ice is hard on all dogs. We've had to pull several dogs out of a hole. Late season ducks on the ice has been fantastic in Kansas!
I’m 35 years & & have had labs my entire life. You’ve got a special dog there!! For him to be on his first season & perform the way he has this year is something else. Just wait until he is 5 or 6 years old!

21:52 I love how everyone was so focused on the goose, that yall didn't see those ducks just giving it up lol
Love it when you include your family and Fred!!!!
Fred is a beast. That ice is dangerous.
Kids are awesome and say the coolest things. Lol
Keep on keeping on
Thank you i appreciate the positivity
Fred is so much steadier now than he was beginning of season. No breaking now...thats great man
Fred is a machine, but when it's that icey and cold leave him home.
yes dont subject your dog to that ever
The dog loves it a lot more than sitting at home
@@ivyironworks6698 right i never leave my dog at home
Love it!! Hope fred is doing well after that big frozen hunt!! He did amazing!!
Just wanted to say thanks on the tip on taping hand warmers to my socks since my husband and I started doing that . No more cold toes. Thanks again and we love your videos! Love Fred too!
That watershed is just magical!
When in doubt I don’t send the dog on any sketchy ice, especially on moving water. No bird is worth losing your dog under the ice, and it can happen.
this is a good rule to stick by
BobbyGuyFilms the closest that I had an experience with sketchy ice is my first goose ever landed in a partially frozen pond, dog got the goose but instead of swimming tried to get on the ice and broke through a couple times. She made it back ok and I got my first honker!
Michael O'Connor Amen, Brother! Amen! I had a scare with my guy two years ago. I’ll never, EVER put him even close to a questionable situation!
NEVER hunt moving water that's iced over. It only takes one mistake to end in tragedy.
Exactly that limits happened to my do when we were swan hunting
Bobby, you should keep a blanket for Fred and wrap him up to keep him warmer. The cold water really sucks the heat out of them . Glad you got to him.
Fred's got a lot of heart. Great duck dog!!!
That spread looked ultra realistic. It looked great with the ice eater
Saw the notification and had to watch and I’m a kid and killed my first Canada yesterday
John Carroll Congrats!!
That ice can be extra tricky for sure. Its nice if they can walk on it but once they fall thru man it can be deadly if you arent careful!! Good save bob
Probably the best video I’ve seen. Good job for Fred!!!!
Been a while Bob n Fred but I'm still watching. Fred? You're a legend!! 😁
Great hunt Bobby....thx for including the Shotkam footage....enjoying the shots in slow mo. Experienced similar event with my dog years ago, but I would have had to swim to get him...12 ft deep. Thankfully he finally got traction and made it out....as I was unsnapping my waders!
It’s a scary deal for sure man
freds doing good and great shooting!!
This year was my first year duck hunting and you're vids got me started and the first honker i killed was banded
Lane Dirickson wow, that’s insane!!
@@southeastoutdoorsmen6584 yeah i was very surprised when i saw the band
This is crazy I live in Missouri and the ice never got that thick I havent killed a single duck or goose because I Started this season but you guys at dux inspired me to duck and goose hunt thanks so much for what you do
Glad to see Fred killing it in the ice. Keep the videos coming
Nice duck hunt bob
You gotta get Fred one of those new momarsh versa vests to keep him warm!! Plus they would look AWESOME on Fred!!!
I just got a new goose call and I’m new to calling I just watched one of your goose call videos and it helped me a lot thanks
Great video Bobby!! Definitely proud of Freddy!!! I recommend bringing something for Freddy other than Pretzels to give him extra energy on those super cold mornings!! Beef scraps or fat works well!!!
That one frame was literally more ducks than l had seen our entire season! I have to be honest, I am on the jealous side. Thank you for this post!
Maybe consider bringing a big jacket to wrap fed in between volleys and get a good buddy heater for him too
ADDICTED to yours videos Bobby! Love them all keep em coming! 👌🏻
THIS MAKES ME HAPPY THANK YOU
Great videos bud looks like that pattern master choke is the ticket for ya
Fred is a PURE UNIT!!!
Bobby get a small Honda generator they’re about the same size but theyre so much quieter they won’t be spooked from the sound as much well worth the investment
That ice eater definitely helped for movement in the decoys on late season birds. No doubt about it.
No matter how well trained my dog is I don't tend to send him out in ice if I can walk it. However if the ice is thin and water depth is shallower then I will work dog with caution. Just be safe and remember no bird is worth more than your dog
this is so true
My dog costed me 3k my duck coast 79 cents imma pick the dog every time
I have only killed one goose this entire season
The season ends Sunday. It’s just to warm to hunt them ducks! It really sucks I have not killed a single duck this season
Chris Awesome I’m with you but I’ve killed one duck and no geese. It’s by FAR the worst season I’ve ever hunted.
@@grant0410 really rough season in idaho too.
Best video in a while Bob! Great job with Fred!
If water too deep to wade u absolutely must have a boat close by. Best to wait and use boat at end of hunt to pick up ones on ice. The hole looks better if you don't break out a bunch of trails to dead birds also.
Fred is such a champ! Been waiting on this video and it did not disappoint!
Fred need lots of high protein snacks in that kinda cold. He’s a great dog and your doing great with him
Had that happen to me and my hunting dog Tae. No bird is worth your dog. Glad your both ok. Stay safe Fred.
Please make a Instagram for fred
“Only place to land” *still blows the call like they’re a 1000 yards away 😂 I love the vids tho Bobby keep em coming

Can’t wait for the snows I’m going to Arkansas in a couple weeks to hope it’s good.
Gréât hunt there bobby good job on getting freed out of the ice 👍
You could see the shot flying at 20:57. Cool!
It's a sad time that it's the last week of duck season.😣
Fred is a champ!! Good shooting!

true
It's a bit like the south island of NZ in july with ice we normally brake a 35 M by 15 M area for the brids to land in depending how deep it is.
I know I’m late but buddy heaters are great
Man, I literally quit breathing for a minute! Had a scary moment with my guy a few years ago on some ice. It’s one of the worst feelings ever. Arkansas is holding birds right now. People say it’s not but they aren’t looking in the right places.
Thanks for sharing your video! I was wondering how the generator would go around the ducks. Looks like you started hammering em after you turned it off. Good move!
yep
Ok who push the thumbs down button and why? Love watching your hunts.
I love every video but this might honestly be one of my favs for some reason!👍
Im sure others have commented already, but that ice can be nasty on dogs. My dog has been cut up real bad in the past and missed out on the rest of the season... you know what you're doing but just stay safe! Love watching the videos and Fred
I have seen people build a insulated box to put over the generator to keep it quiet and running. You might want to look into it
Live the vid Fred’s such a good pup
thanks so much
Get ol Fred a big buddy heater when your hunting freezing conditions like that!
Cooked up some duck poppers for some of my friends last night from the mornings hunt. His son is 4 and inhaled the poppers and didn’t touch his ribeye 😂. Keep slayin’ em boys!!

🙌🙌
Bob you need to protect your ears man you gotta get some ear protection you can get some that you can have better hearing with but it cancels out shotgun shots it makes it easier to hear the geese
Peltor is a good brand make sure they still let you hear the geese and everything else apart from shotgun shots
Can’t wait to see the snow goose hunts tell Fred I said hi
Fred has come such a long way with the breaking. i just got a 9 week old chocolate lab i hope she turns out as good as Fred
Bobby is it the only open ice around or only open water lol and you should bring some straw or a blanket for Fred to lay or sit on to help him keep warm on those cold water hunts and cold days could help keep him retrieving for longer in the day
your headed to arkansas!! that’s where i live! hopefully we won’t disappoint!!!
Hell of a good hunt
I 'm from Accomack Virginia and it's been a slow season, love your videos

We just left Arkansas Wednesday! There are a ton of specks and snows in Stuttgart rite now. Should be a good hunt for you.
Shane Manges I live in Arkansas
We were rite in the middle Stuttgart with dirty delta outfitters! Ever heard of them ?
Shane Manges no I’ve never hunted with an outfitter. I usually go on public land outside of pine bluff (very close to Stuttgart) and box people for a spot
Had to give the subscribe just for ole Frederick.
poor Frederick but nice hunt love watch im be purchasing some dux stuff to help you 👍
I can't help but crack up every time you say them boys are dead lol
You always got to be readying to go swimming yourself.
I live in Arkansas and am hunting snows next weekend as well. I assume that you are entered in the Mack’s Prairie Wings contest for snows?
Fred is awesome! I've had a couple close calls now if I can't get to my dog I don't send them.
I took off my waiters once and swam and got em luckily it was on priv so the truck was running and already warm so I and the dog got wright in I bring hi fat treats and cooked cheap steak anything for the pup

Love the duck hunting vids Bobby
Haven't watched it but I know its gonna be fire! Keep the good vids up bob
Jacob Kellerman Much appreciated
Really love your videos!!
I watch them from Spain I hope one day I can go hunting ducks there in usa
Also I don’t know if they make em still but they have ice breaker vests with built in floatation that way if they do get hung up they can’t do under
Awesome vid!! Love it
On thin ice its best if the dogs feet will touch when they bust through. If the ice is thick enough for them to walk on it, send em!
we always have a small kayak with us in Vermont
That bird must’ve been banded or wearing body armor. Lol that’s just your luck Bobby.
I know right!!!
