    Really useful information - shows the importance of a clear strategy and approach from the onset and adapting your strategy based on application outcomes etc.

    Hi Afzal, thank you for the informative video! What strategy would you recommend for target school students going into penultimate year study, but without any spring schemes? Feeling ambitious but no safety nets at the same time 😂 Thanks

    Hi there I have a question so I came from a non-target university and got BComm. Finance degree. I have some experience from working in the back end of a big bank and I did a non-paid internship for a venture capital firm. Do you think me pursuing the CFA can better my chances in landing a job say in Wealth Management or anything financial in general?

    With this whole COVID situation, how important will work experience be when applying for summer internships this year. As I did not get onto a spring week

    • @maxconnolly4279
      @maxconnolly4279 3 роки тому +1

      I secured my summer internship this year mainly due to my work experience I think. I obtained a First Class in my first year from a mid/low tier Uni, but got great A Levels and had 3 years experience in a building society. I would say it’s more important than ever, as some banks/divisions are looking to recruit fewer interns, that being said, some are also looking for more!

      As mentioned experience always always helps but it depends, you could try applying to some spring week programs by declaring you intend to do a Masters which could help your chances

      ACCA, CPA, CMT, qualifications

    Hey! Do you need a maths based degree to secure a job at investment banks??

    • @_MWC
      @_MWC 3 роки тому +1

      Not at all! Diversity of thought has always had a place within banking, successful candidates have studied subjects like classic or music for example.
      Maths is definitely not a prequiste though being fairly good with numbers can go a long way regardless of subject studied.
      Much of the day to day job in banking can be taught so maths isn't necessary. Like Afzal mentions here Experience and a good CV/application strategy means more

    • @AfzalHussein
      @AfzalHussein  3 роки тому

      That's a tough one. Grades are only a small fraction of securing an offer.

    • @_MWC
      @_MWC 3 роки тому +2

      No. Of course better grades means a higher chance of getting into a better uni and therefore increasing your overall chances but there isn't an explicit grade.
      Experience and overall application matters more. We know candidates who have grades ranging from BBC to ABB and above who have secured roles - it's never that clear cut. At least for now.

      No a 2:1 Grade in the UK system. its equivalent of 3.4-5 GPA. a First class in the UK system is equivalent to 3.7 and up I think (Magna - Suma)
