I just saw it tonight here in UK in Cinema. Only 8 people in the audience. But it was a great watch, and the buzz, think everybody enjoyed it. def check it out... 9/10 film.
Seeing as I cried during the trailers, I'm 100% crying during the actual documentary. I didn’t realize just how much Christopher and his wife did for the research and study of paralysis. My uncle was paralyzed in a jeeping accident over 15 years ago and the methods of support, physical therapy and assitance tools that he uses only came to be BECAUSE of the pushing this wonderful couple did. I can truly never thank them, as well as the countless scientists and medical professionals, enough for just how much they have given the community. Truly a blessing I continue to see daily, with every moment I get to spend with my uncle.
Sir, it's fantastic that you're part of the comic book community and loudly shining a light on this art form. Ya just convinced a diehard Superman/Christopher Reeve fan to see a movie he was already excited to see! Keep up the great work!
Saw this during the two-day limited release run. Barely a minute into the documentary, I was bawling. I also appreciated how much was focused on Dana Reeve as well. Although Christopher Reeve had nothing to do with the 90s Superman animated series, I couldn’t help but think of my favorite quote from the show, while watching this documentary: “In the end, the world didn’t need a Superman; just a brave one.”
I saw this for my birthday, because I was born on the day he died, not the same year but it definitely made me want to connect with Christopher Reeve’s story and I loved this doc so much, made we want to be a better person.
I saw it on Sept 21st and I was so moved by the story and the talent he showcased in everything says he was the total package. I wouldn't be surprised if he portrayed Jor-El in a Superman film had the accident hadn't happen. I could even picture him as Jor-El going to the council, pleading to them about Krypton's doom, we need to evacuate the planet and the whole Kandor arc with them shrinking themselves as a way to rebuild Krypton through Kandor. One of the most powerful lines is from Glenn Close who said if Christopher Reeve was alive today Robin Williams would've been alive today. She knew that Chris would lookout for Robin because of the strong brotherhood they had. When Chris Reeve said "I ruined my life and everyone else's..." that hit really hard. I remember watching a movie before his accident called "Above Suspicion" where he plays a cop who gets partially paralyzed from the waist down, and as he goes through recovery he suspects his wife is cheating on him his brother and setup's up an elaborate plan to eliminate his wife and brother pretending to be paralyzed. Long story the whole plot is another cop portrayed by Joe Mantegna trying to prove that Chris Reeve's character is not paralyzed and he committed the murder. It's ironic that he portrayed a character that is partially paralyzed and this horrific accident happened.
Just got out of the theatre from seeing this. So glad it got a wider release because I missed the one day event. What a truely incredibly family. I really appreciated that they didn't stray away from Reeve's darkness before and after the injury. Big shoutout to James Gunn for giving Chris' son Will a cameo in the upcoming film.
Gentle reminder for people to get out and vote, it’s important to advocate for what you care about, using your voice matters. This doc really reminded me of that, we must lookout for one another.
Yes yes yes! My family and I went to see it together on Friday! Absolutely adored it. So glad to hear your thoughts... thank you Coy. You are incredible. Keep doing what you're doing!
Saw Super/Man earlier this afternoon. What an emotional movie. I choked up a few times watching it. It really does make you think about how many everyday things we take for granted. Made me want to hug everyone I love.
I really enjoyed the film. I'm 49 years old and remember watching the news coverage and the interviews that followed. Growing up reading comics off and on my whole life made me a huge fan of Superman 1 and 2. I remember watching the broadcast premiere on TV with my family. Christopher was such an amazing person I am grateful this doc has come out now so this generation of fans can hopefully learn from him and his family. Coy, I highly recommend you watch the Donner cuts of Superman 1 and 2 back to back.
I remember watching your reaction to "Superman: The Movie" on the Reel Rejects channel, and you saying something like, "It was good" and "I see why people like it." But you can never really understand the magic and wonder of seeing a man fly for the first time when, thanks to modern movie magic, it is so common today. All in all, after watching this documentary, I hope you can understand why Christopher Reeve is, and always will be, Superman to so many millions of people. May he rest in peace.
Thanks for this. FYI - was 12 when Star Wars was released, 13 for Superman, & 14 for Star Trek - so Mr. Reeve holds a special place in my heart. I shared your review with my youngest son. We'll be catching the movie tomorrow. Thanks again 😊
I grew up as an 80’s kid loving superman and Christopher Reeve and I was devastated when he had his accident. My dad was in a wheelchair so it made my heart swell with so much admiration seeing his and Dana’s efforts for that community. I still remember my mum calling me at work to tell me when he’d passed away. He died a few months after my dad had died and it felt like that kind of pain all over again, my mum then passed away a couple of years later. It felt so sadly relatable watching the movie and hearing Will say at the end that no matter who was around him after they passed, he’s felt alone ever since. My heart broke for him because I still feel the exact same way now in my 40’s, I couldn’t imagine having to deal with that pain as a kid.
I'm your age Coy and was lucky to have Reeves be my Superman growing up. I remember being sad and angry when I heard of his accident. Gonna bring my mom to see this one 😢
Reeves best Superman. I can't wait to see it sounds inspiring. I know his son is actual news reporter for good morning America. I remember last performance on Smallville speaking to Tom Welling who was playing Clark Kent. I think he change image of Superman and inspired so many who believed they can fly.
I'm late to finding your channel, sorry Coy. You been a cool dude since Collider days with Schnepp. Always loved comic book shopping. I've got this tagged for its HBOmax debut. I know I'm gonna be emotional
I saw it last month. I honestly cant remember the last time I was in a packed theater that was that quiet or saw so many people wiping theyre eyes including me and a couple friends. Its a bit of a hard watch, but very emotional and incredibly inspirational. An absolute must see, but dont forget the Kleenex.😢
i am going to support this because superman is not just my favorite superhero, SUPERMAN AND SUPERMAN 2 ( ACTUALLY ONE FILM SINCE THEY WERE SHOT BACK TO BACK ) ARE MY FAVORITE MOVIES OF ALL TIME. EVEN MODERN SUPERHERO MOVIES DO NOT COMPARE TO THE LOVE THAT WAS PUT INTO THOSE FILMS ! PROVE ME WRONG !!!
I was able to see this a few weeks back with my mom, aunt, and uncle. While I did not know a lot about Christopher Reeve, it was still a punch to the gut at times, and it was very inspirational.
I saw the in a Regal movie theater yesterday (yes, they still exist) and I learned how close Chris Reeve and Robin Williams were. I knew that they were college roommates and friends, but I didn’t know that they were best friends.
That trailer alone killed me😢😢😢 i live with cerebral palsy since birth I was born with blood on the brain 🧠 and I did die and came back um christapher reeve Superman was the very first superhero movie I’ve ever seen and Superman 2 my heart breaks for anyone living with this disease and my heart breaks for his family and friends what an amazing incredible person christapher reeve truly was

Coy, PLEASE start with the Donner Cut of Superman 2. I grew up with these movies but the Donner cut of Sup2 blew my nostalgic love of the original cut out of the water.
Ya it was an awesome documentary! Christopher Reeve's story and his impact will always be so profound. Great out of the theatre review and nice visual as well. What type of camera do you use if you don't mind me asking?
The Superman movie with Christopher Reeves was the first film I watched as a kid, I believe I was 4 at the time. Since then I loved the character and watched every film/tv show that had a Superman in it. Amazing actors took up the mantle but Christopher’s performance will always have a special place for me
This has nothing to do with your video (which I appreciate you sharing) but I didn’t know how else to ask haha, I’ve never read a single comic book in my life but I LOVE Batman and I’ve been in the mood to dive deeper into the world and lore of Batman recently. What are some good Batman comics you recommend to get me started in it? I never really know how comic books work and how to follow certain storylines and what connects to each other and what doesn’t, but I’d love to learn
Just wanted to remind you that when you do get around to checking out Superman II that you need to watch The Donner Cut. Richard Donner was fired after Superman I came out and decades later he was able to take test footage and incomplete shots and make his movie and it works much better in every way than the theatrical cut.
I definitely want to see this soon and will probably need tissues. By the way just so you know your mic switched I think from the lapel one to the phone and back to the lapel one. I think it's at about halfway through the video when it first happens.
It comes out on the 1st of November in the UK. I'm really hoping local cinemas will have decent show times for this documentary. That's the only thing I'm nervous about.
