I heard someone once say that Breaking Bad had a better story, but Better Call Saul has better storytelling. Which I could get on board with. They are both excellent in their own rights, but they each excel in very different ways. Which makes them the perfect compliment to each other. The best TV universe ever created.
Way I see it is, Breaking Bad had you covered with all the action and suspense. Better Call Saul has your back in the emotional and deep thought department. A perfect pair.
By design they're distinct and complimentary. It would be fairly boring if BCS was just "Breaking Bad 2."
Makes sense same team with time to improve on their craft after already delivering a prior masterpiece
i think personally its more like breaking bad has better story and better call saul has better characters. I love the complex action story of breaking bad and i love complex characters like jimmy, chuck, kim, nacho and mike etc.
Did you watch "El Camino"? This is so adictive, I can hardly wait for "El Camino 2".
Just like Breaking bad, better call saul gets better with every season.

Better Call Saul is some of the most truly cinematic television ever made.

@@paris-1911 Exactly. Lucky AF is exactly right. It's been over a year and a half and I still can't wrap my head around how masterful this work is. For me, there is nothing comparable to it. Certainly nothing in tv history. In film there are some things maybe: Kieślowski's Colors Trilogy and Decalogue maybe; Apted's Up series; there are certainly others that i'm not aware of. And there are probably large spanning works of live theater that i'm not aware of. But this BB/BCS 14 year in the making masterwork is just... What is there to say? Happy to have witnessed it in its time.
When Walt first met Saul, Saul asked if Meyhew was an Irish name and then said "a fellow potato eater!" He said his real name was McGill and he just had his Saul Goodman name as a business pseudonym.
You know him as Saul. Soon you’ll be calling him Jimmy ❤
Yep. About midway through the first season, into the second, most people, including myself, only called him Jimmy.

BCS honestly feels less like a spin-off and more like the first 6 seasons of a singular 11 seasons long show. It's that well connected.
Yea it's all one continuous story, it just switches main characters halfway through when you start Breaking Bad and the old main characters become side characters in the story of the new main characters
I initially preferred Breaking Bad's faster pace after first finishing this show, but watching this first episode again right now makes me realize how phenomenal this show really is in its own right. The places all of this goes... where everyone ends up... it really is incredible TV.
Honestly once you finish BCS you see the 2 shows so differently on a rewatch it was all building up to an amazing send off

So excited for you to get deep into this! This show is so amazing at being directly linked to Breaking Bad while also being its own unique show. It's legit baffling to me how anyone could say this show is "slow" at any point. Happy you loved the first episode, it only gets better and better!
So glad I don't have to hide it anymore since you realized it straight out. Better Call Saul is not only the best prequel of all time,, but also the best sequel of all time (although in much smaller amounts). I couldn't wait for your final scene reaction to episode 1 and, as usual, you EXCEEDED all expectations!! AWESOME. You also saw my favorite character in the entire Breaking Bad Universe in Episode 1.
Small bit of trivia: In Breaking Bad (s2e8), Saul DOES mention that his real name is McGill!
And they probably didn't know they would make a prequel at this point, so I guess they just worked it out!
It's amazing what seemingly throwaway lines can turn into.
Also, look how great of a character Mike has turned out to be. And if Bob Odenkirk had been available to shoot the episode of Breaking Bad when Jesse's apartment needed cleaning, he may never have existed.
The BCS team dedicated a couple writers to rewatching BrBa and the older seasons of BCS prior to every new season. They were that dedicated. That‘s how they got it so consistent and removed any and all plot holes
Let’s gooooo. I consider BB/EC/BCS as one big story and the greatest ever told in the television medium but BCS CAN stand on it’s own. It’s a top 5 all time show in it’s own right and easily the GOAT spin-off/prequel. Pumped for your journey through this.

I’m excited to follow BCS with you. I love watching reactors experience it. It’s a fantastic show and worth every accolade. I think the reason people say it starts off slow is because they kept comparing it to the newly ended Breaking Bad. I never thought it was slow.
This shows cinematography is impeccable. Breaking Bad had some great shots but BCS is shot after shot after shot of incredible camera work.
I went into this show without watching Breaking Bad first, and I actually still haven't. That shows that this show is a masterpiece without the fan service and without knowing some characters.
Also, so many don't give shows with a very slow start a chance, but all the shows that started slow that I've seen are amazing. The Clone Wars, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Agents of SHIELD (a show you need to check out someday, by Episode 1×17 it's already very very intriguing)
Watching this first episode, you’d never, ever guess what Chuck’s “illness” is. The storytelling in this series is outstanding. So happy you’re finally here. LFG

Funny how both shows essentially both begin with Tuco starting it all.
I feel like Krazy 8 started Breaking Bad. But Tuco was the first major villain.

In my opinion, what makes BCS my favorite TV show was the time gap,el camino. The waiting,the rumors that they were making a spin off. And over all the storytelling.

The actor that plays Charles McGill has been on people's TVs and in movies for a long time. The first show I ever saw him in was "Happy Days" when he was a bit character named "Lenny." When two other characters were spun off to create the "Laverne & Shirley" series, Lenny and his pal Squiggy went over to that show and became bigger side characters. Then a few years later, the same actor appeared as one of the band members in the rock documentary parody, "This is Spinal Tap." He was always known as a comedic actor--his performance as Chuck throughout this show is amazing. You are right that Jimmy and Chuck are related, but I won't say anything about that relationship until it's revealed as part of the plot.
I’m so excited for you to experience this show BB is a 10/10 but BCS easily sits up there with it. First episode is such a great start to the show and a glimpse at the other side characters
I'm glad you started watching Better Call Saul. I know you're going to love it if you love slow-burn storytelling. A word of advice. Try not to figure out what's going on during your watching. Most times, you may be wrong. Just sit back and enjoy the ride. I'll be right along with you.
I love Breaking Bad, and I've seen it multiple times... but I never started Better Call Saul until this last weekend. I am hyped to go through this as a first time viewer with you.

Oh bcs is definitely slower than bb but thats what makes it better cus when bcs finally explodes it goes from sleazeball comedy and becomes the most tense drama of all time
This is the start of a fantastic series! It's equally as good as Breaking Bad, I think people's preferences are the main thing that determines which they like best; if you like action more Breaking Bad is better, if you like drama more Better Call Saul is better. I can never decide between the two, both of them are masterful television!

But yes, in this show anytime you see a scene filmed in B&W, its a scene that comes AFTER Breaking Bad. So they do it quite often, but not every episode. Just to be aware.
IMO Better Call Saul can feel slower at times, especially coming off the peak of Breaking Bad, but stick with it, you won't be disappointed. It gets better and better each season. At its peak, it's just as good as Breaking Bad or just a hair behind it. A truly great series.

One of my favourite scenes with the show is still from the first Skateboard scam, and Jimmy showed them 😂 My dad always said “You can’t bullshit a bullshitter.”
Then seeing Tuco at the end? Oh man, Episode 2 was one of my favourite episodes, just from Tuco alone, but also for Jimmy, and introducing a brand new character while it was at it!
Make sure you watch the intro theme every season and see its change over time
Better Call Saul is NOT slower paced than Breaking Bad, the people who say that have never watched the show.
Better call saul is the most prestine amazing show that ever came out , breaking bad is great but better call saul is a master piece

I live next door to Saul's "Omaha" apt!!! At about the 2:20 mark (not shown in your edit), there's a brief outside view of his building in a snowstorm. My 2nd-floor balcony can be seen sticking out from the left side. I am now sitting 15 feet from this balcony, and I see that building any time I look outside. I still can't believe it turned out like that!

BCS is definitely more Peter Gould’s show. Vince stepped back somewhere around the third season, and only came back direct a couple episodes, and write one of the last episodes of season 6.
