Excellent! I taught school in Philly, The majoraty of students had at least 1 parent in jail, A program like this would have save some of the children,
Back in the 70s we had education release. Prisoners could go to college on college campus. There was correspondence schools. There was voc tech being taught.
Yeah, these corporate for profit prisons like GEO lobby against this and any reforms that aren't money makers. With politicians who have invested in them, there's no incentive to change a cash cow. There won't be any significant improvement when an organization like the ACLU can't get it done. Face it, time for the vests. I want a black one, though, with the anarchy symbol on it.
@@AkataTribune it was. There was so much grant money and funding for prison programs. I was in creative writing and actually became a 6 time PEN Writing Awards recipient and was granted executive clemency. Many poets and writers came out of the prison system. What happened was the emergence of private prisons under clinton. And the three strikes law. Had that not happened state prisons were on the way out.
Years ago, I worked in a prison in which inmates could earn an associates degree in business through a private school. The program was funded by Pell Grants. It was a scam because inmates that couldn't read at a 4th grade level had 4.0 GPAs. I'm 100% for educational programs in prisons, but if there's federal money involved, there should be oversight and accountability.
I administered a WRAT, a Wide Range Achievement Test, as part of a parole evaluation to some of these inmates...definitely not college level, not even 5th grade for many.
American Bastiel Day. We must walk by the thousands into the minimum security prisons, and refuse to leave until everyone can leave. Break your family and friends out of prison. Free your people.....

I’ve been an adjunct teacher for years and looked for a prison job teaching history but it’s near impossible to find any

The idea of complete prison abolition was also very strong then I was told.

Well done!
Appreciate all you do.
A foundational education that would make one their own teacher is critical, not racist books for some race that assumes separation.
One race is not seperate from the other.

Dutch Ray anecdotes are nice but where’s the facts located?
