I think it was either 2 or 3. Possibly 2 but more likely 3. In the book of 5 rings Musashi goes into pretty good details about looking for the environmental advantage at every opportunity...i think he even referenced keeping the sun at your back and in their face to handicap them so it really isn't far fetched to believe 2 actually happened.
But ppl in power over there are cutthroat and take no chances of being usurped by a powerful subordinate.
Its just ultra strange that a fight of this level wouldn't be documented until 150ish years later. That makes absolutely no sense.
As soon as i saw Record of Ragnorok it reminded me that theres more to this story than we'll ever know.

He was also portrayed very well in Record of Ragnorak, the narrator explains his history when he became a very great swordsman and how he trains. I adapt his lifestyle in mine because every time he was defeated he gets reforged into a stronger swordsman, which is very inspirational to me.

In some books it is written that Kojiros sword was made in Yamato and was a O-Dashi. Shortened for obi wearing but still long at over 70cm nagasa. But who knows ? To my mind Musashi had already made his bokken before he went ot sea.

I think Musashi deliberately showed up late to take advantage of the sun, and used a wooden sword to disrespect and enrage Kojiro. Musashi won the mind game because he knew his chances were even at best based on skill alone. Most of the theories I have seen was that Musashi left Kojiro alive at the end of the duel, but someone else, perhaps Musashi's followers came after and finished the job. It's one of those things where I'd pay good money to be a fly on the wall to see how it really went down.

Musashi's legend has become romanticized over time, but back in those days the political climate was highly treacherous and a Samurai would have to follow all kinds of despicable orders from their lords, so it wouldn't surprise me if they did Kojiro-san dirty.

Except that you are mistaken samurai who was a servent with ronin who were more like hired mercenaries.
But Musashi were neither. He was a swordfighter and ocasionaly did work for some daimio.
Nothing in his biography suggest working as a hit man. That was not his first duel, but it was his last and by that time he had beaten all the greats.
He was wildly unconventional and that is why this 400 years butthurts claims still lives
Even the guy presenting the video: "three hours late!" Hahahaha
You are going to kill or be killed and expect "good maners"
Musashi is such a gift for these world

The account of this duel I read was that Musashi used a wooden sword made of an oar. So it is absolutely possible that his sword was longer. Musashi had by then survived many duels and was an expert swordsman. Did he use the sun to his advantage if possible. Based on his teachings in the book of the "Five Rings" absolutely. I believe that the second account of the duel is probably close to actual event.

Those guys followed the Bushi code. 'Dirty fighting' wasn't a thing. You used any advantage. You train your techniques every day and this trained your mind.
If Kojiro had simply been assassinated, this would have been faithfully recorded as in many other cases. Cruelty was normal, lying about it afterwards was not.
They say that Musashi carved his weapon from an oar of the boat. He'd set off unarmed (without katana).
Id be more prepared to believe that he'd made a makeshift weapon with say.... a tanto attached like a spear tip.
This would provide him with a lighter (faster) weapon and longer range than even Kojiro's sword.
He'd have expected to fight swords and been confronted with something unknown - a long stabbing weapon (and not a cutting weapon).
Failure to be able to judge distance would be a lethal disadvantage in that case.
And thats kindof what the old sources describe.

Having waited for a long time, Sasaki demanded to Hosokawa that he be declared winner by default.
But Hosokawa refused, insisted that Sasaki wait, and so he waited and he waited: mixed emotions in him: rage at Musashi's disrespect for him, frustrated demand to claim the win, elation at Musashi's supposed cowardice, and so on.
So by the time Musashi arrived, Sasaki already exhausted himself by his own mental imbalances.
Hosokawa actually planned to kill both Musashi and Sasaki. Whoever survived this fight would be killed in turn.
Musashi saw through the deceit, and lured Sasaki to pursue him to shore where Musashi's boat awaited him.
Musashi slew Sasaki, and escaped before Hosokawa's men could surround and kill Musashi.
Out of spite, Hosokawa's people renamed the island Ganryujima, in honor of Sasaki instead of Musashi.
The game was totally rigged. Still Musashi achieved his mission and escaped successfully. While Sasaki fell to both Hosokawa's and Musashi's trap, hook, line and sinker.
Had this been absolutely fair fight, Sasaki's monstrous skill would probably have won.

why would hosokawa wanted to kill kojiro? your theory is baseless

    • @gendoruwo6322
      @gendoruwo6322 5 місяців тому +1

@@glowiever : it's not my theory. It's what my Sensei from Japan told me about this story.
As for: why Hosokawa wanted to kill both Musashi and Sasaki?
Well, Sensei said that's what government people did. Politician types often have little martial ability of their own, but they're wary of the samurais who does have real martial ability and following. They're thus always looking for an excuse to weaken or get rid of them.
For many years they (the Hosokawa in this case) actually wanted to 'get rid of' Sasaki but could not find anyone able, so they're 'feeling forced' to sign Sasaki on as their retainer. But at the same time, they promote Sasaki's notoriety in attempt to goad both Sasaki and Musashi into a battle that would destroy each other. Musashi avoided this. But Sasaki always the egotistical one, actually sough to prove he's better than Musashi.
In the end Musashi felt he had to deal with both Sasaki and Hosokawa. This climax in the duel of Ganryujima.

Sasaki had a nodachi. Musashi didn't think he could win against him with a regular katana so on the boat ride to the island he carved up a boat oar about the size of Sasaki's nodachi and used it in stead. Not sure how that is cheating. Musashi used so many tricks and unorthodox battle strategies that it would make Sun Tzu and Machiavelli blush. Lol

The second theory is the most likely, Musashi had already used the strategy of being late in confrontations on other occasions and was the creator of the two swords technique because he knew how to adapt to the situation and create new combat conditions. That he arrived late and fought with a wooden sword bigger than Kojiro's is very likely, and still, this is the most known and accepted.

Kojiro's friends' story will be the one that will be most skewed in his favour. And they say that he died fighting a duel but make excuses for him. The excuses are quite petty, therefore, its most likely that the duel happened and he lost fair and square.

Mushashi also never takes a bath maybe once a week or month is what Ive heard. Because it is a sign of manliness or something. And he never uses 2 swords that much. He uses uf ut is just necessary to beat an opponent on his advantage.

Lol.... There is no cheating. That's ludicrous. If Musashi waited 3 hours and lengthened his sword, It was a combat strategy that worked. Why is it cheating for Musashi to have a long sword but not for Kojiro to have already had a long sword? That sounds like a story made up by butthurt Kojiro fan boys. But there's a different take on it. Maybe Musashi did show up late, psychologically defeating Kojiro before the duel and, the tactically superior Musashi making sure Kojiro was facing the sun, defeated Kojiro. Other troops may have been there to kill Kojiro if he had defeated Musashi, but Since Musashi lived, we have to assume the other troops weren't needed and Musashi just won.... With a strategy that outsmarted his opponent.
