- Toby Chow is a leader in SOUL and IIRON, local community organizations working for social justice. Through these organizations, he has been active in campaigns for corporate accountability concerning workers' rights and Wall Street abuses, as well as campaigns for greater investment in the common good and against budget cuts at the state and federal level.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
It is important to talk about the dynamics of the role of organizers in the mechanics social movements. We need to delve into how people see themselves in what roles in social movements and how people's defined roles and perceived roles can limit the potential development and capacity of social organization, for example in your blunt dismissal of Occupy as a movement, your social movement criterea isn't clear and from my experience Occupy activism is quite diverse in different social movement features from the presence of campaigns and to the depth of organization. Also the question of how people organize social movements is important to describe on a micro scale, for example: how organizing accuentates the awareness of a gap of legitimacy that is spread via social movements cultivating collective action by turning problems into issues, etc.

Grassroots movements need money and leadership.
What I found most annoying is the focus on the speaker, and not the screen behind him showing visuals about what he is talking about. Like wtf cameraperson?
Students need to first question their own ethical and metaphysical presuppositions in order to then create a coherent and comprehensive worldview by which they can evaluate what may be just or unjust in their society. Reinforcing Social Justice dogma and encouraging the thoughtless mobilization of students to fight for your socio-political interests is not fighting a good fight, but vicious and hubristic manipulation of the youth.

WHO IS TED AND WHY TF DOES HE DO SO MUCH TALKING????
I thought this video would be more useful than it actually is, thought I was about to learn why it's important to not focus on facts. Instead, I am simply told that it's important to consider that not all facts are true for everyone -____- makes no logical sense. If that were true, then why are we even trying to improve the world if it's not actually "improving" because facts aren't universally true????? make it make sense.
