He had me laughing and mesmerized at the same time. An amazing stretch for Peter. Not many actors could pull it off so well.. 180 from the establishment powerhouse he usually portrays. Charming storyline, what a talent!
This is one of my favourite films. I first watched it with my Dad when we used to have movie night in the early 80s. Just shows what a film can be when you have a good story and good actors. I love the line "How you doing baby buns" 😂😂😂
I also first watched this with my dad! Years later, I met Janis Paige at a lunch thing in Los Angeles. I was in my early twenties, and I just mooned all over her, and she loved it and couldn't believe a young woman in the 90s even knew who she was. I told her how much this little tv movie meant to me, which made her very happy, but she also insisted I immediately watch the That's Entertainment documentaries on Hollywood dancers and singers because she was just so good in the clips she said. Lol
Dachte am Anfang: Oh Gott, was ist denn das für ein Film? Doch durch Lesen dieser Kommentare hier, wurde ich neugierig und habe weiter angeschaut. Danke. Wirklich ein guter Film der 80er Jahre.
I'm only 15 minutes in, but I'm loving this film already. It's now suddenly occurred to me that I have seen this before, but it must have been a very long time ago, and I can't remember where or when, so thank you for uploading this to give us the opportunity of watching. :)
This movie is 90% like the original! I love the first movie & I'm 20 minutes into this movie. They added a few things that I wish weren't said though. But the rest if the movie so far is great!
I haven't seen this movie in close to 30 years when I ran into it on UA-cam (Thank you, thank you) I loved it every bit as much as I did when it came out in 1980. Only found it a couple times on tv since then 😢 Peter Strauss is SO incredibly sexy! ....I'm not gonna wait yrs to see it again, lol❤❤❤
Thanks so much for sharing this movie...I watched it when I was young and never forgot it...Peter Strauss was great and the final scene was what people hoped...hollywood does not produce films like this...what a pity!
The final scene was exactly 💯 what I had hoped for watching the Original 1946 film 🎥 and I dreamed about making a remake, with a Heavenly reprieve, just in the Nick of time ⏲️ 😀 all puns intended, there is still room for improvements and I would just love to see one more film addressing a few more little details.
i knew a friend from primary school to secondary school, his mustache, face and attitude similar 99% that of smiley, never changed still bad till now... bad ass..
I watched this when it air in 1980 and loved it,I got it on VHS but then lost it years later since then I tried to find it on tape or dvd and had no luck,so thanks for posting this,I still enjoy watching it as much as I did in 1980.This is one of the only movies that's a remake that is as good as the original and the original stared the great Paul Muni and Claude Rains.
So adorable!!!! I can’t believe I never watched this growing up!!!! So funny to see those cars and tv were a big deal, yet government never changes and the devil trying to take over cities!! Thank you for sharing!
My Father had this on VHS, this and Young Frankenstein, were the one's I popped into the player, when he'd work swingshift. My Father passed away in '88 and I don't know what happened to the tapes, but it's just great to see it again after all this time. Thank you so much for the upload of such a wonderful movie!
Good movie. The DA is an example of a good man who does nothing. Evil prevails when good men do nothing. Eddy stepped into the shoes of a good man and actively pursued goodness by destroying evil wherever he saw it
Paul Muni is one of my favorite actors and one of the greatest actors of all time, but Peter Strauss does a pretty good job in this movie, he's no Paul Muni but really entertaining. I enjoyed both movies.
My first reaction was that Peter Strauss was very miscast but as the film progressed I got rather caught up in the loveliness of it all and finished up really loving it and at the final scene I just said to myself aloud , "Good".
Yes! I felt exactly the same way! His character grew on me...there was a sort of innocence there. Not positive that I have the right word. I like Peter Strauss anyway..
saw the original with Paul Muni. This version does very well : and Peter Strauss is one of my favorite actors. Barbara Hershey is gorgeous. Thanks for posting.
Oh my gosh! I had this on VHS and I used to watch it constantly! I don't have it with me anymore, I'm hoping it's still back in my storage but I haven't seen it for a long long time...so I don't know. Anyway, came here on a lark to see if I could find it and, to my pleased shock, I did! Thank you SO much SueSnellLives for uploading this and sharing it with us!!! You totally rock!!! I'm so well chuffed!
Thank you so much for uploading this film, I have been looking for this film everywhere for the last 6 years and I couldn't find it anywhere online. I used to have it on vhs and watched it over and over when I was younger then it got lost somewhere down the line, I have just watched it and I remember it like it was yesterday, its such a good film and I don't know why they have never released it on dvd? ive looked everywhere. thanks again you have made my year :)
You are very welcome! I bought this boot years ago and finally found time to convert and upload. It's nice to know I wasn't the only one who watched it repeatedly back in the day!
When I was in High School this was always one of my favorite movies. It's a true shame hardly anyone makes movies like this anymore.
My son who passed away liked this movie a lot, now I like it too.
God bless his soul
Im sooo sorry you lost your son. I have 3 grown sons, and cannot even imagine what you must go through. Heartbreaking
❤️😔💯🙏🙌🗣️‼️‼️💝
Big difference between the original 1948 movie 🎬 🎞 🎥 and the 1980 version, although some scenes were almost identical in both films.
I am sorry...god bless his soul..
He had me laughing and mesmerized at the same time. An amazing stretch for Peter. Not many actors could pull it off so well.. 180 from the establishment powerhouse he usually portrays. Charming storyline, what a talent!
Peter Strauss is a great actor. Love his movies.
This film is 41 years old and still love it I still have original on vhs
🤣 "I have decent negotiations I have to disrupt" 🤣

Very touching movie... it touched my heart..
Peter Strauss is a good actor. Don’t see him to often now perhaps he retired. I remember the original movie with Paul Muni and Claude Reins.
I'm only 15 minutes in, but I'm loving this film already. It's now suddenly occurred to me that I have seen this before, but it must have been a very long time ago, and I can't remember where or when, so thank you for uploading this to give us the opportunity of watching. :)

I've seen and enjoyed the original movie. I enjoyed this one even more. Sort of a cross between Happy Days and Back To The Future.
I never saw this particular remake of the movie. Peter Strauss is doing a credible Paul Muni impression!
My sister was crazy for Peter Strauss --she loved this.
Sue, I Love these old movies of the week! Keep more coming please! Thanks!
Saw this when I was a kid. Brings back memories.
Been looking for this for years. Thank you so much!!!
That was a really sweet film and what a lovely sweet ending .
Thanks so much for sharing this movie...I watched it when I was young and never forgot it...Peter Strauss was great and the final scene was what people hoped...hollywood does not produce films like this...what a pity!
Roel Alking; The final scene is better than the 1946 version. IMO, Claude Raines made a better "Nick."

Glad you're still alive to post this video.
laredoland I haven't left my parents' house in 41 years. But other than that, I'm groovy.
That map behind the DA’s desk reminds me of the map of Cincinnati that hung behind Sheriff Andy Taylor’s desk in Mayberry.
2018 going into 2019 !!!! Watching this !!!!
saw the original with Paul Muni. This version does very well : and Peter Strauss is one of my favorite actors. Barbara Hershey is gorgeous. Thanks for posting.
