- SKYDRAMA.NET | Unable to leave until 4:30 PM I was late for the event, missing a supercell and tornado southwest of Springfield, Illinois. My first view of the storms was... not great. And it didn't get better! A long, windy, rainy, at times dusty storm chase with an even longer, rainy, lightning filled drive home. Sometimes storm chasing is not fun.
Thank you for sharing this. I too couldn't get out of the house until late, and this is what I envisioned. The only thing motivating me to move toward the door was that chasers were reporting tornadoes, but I was loathing it. And then I stopped and was like, Nope, I don't need to deal with a bunch of rainy bullshit.
When I read your post on Facebook I was just like, yep, that was my day. Maybe slightly more motivation because I knew I could follow it back home but I even botched that by getting suckered all the way down to Effingham. Follow it home? More like drive the entire north-south length of the squall home. You made the right call for sure, and I was grateful to get home safe in spite of my own stubbornness.
Too real. They definitely happen.
You: Sprinting on foot TOWARDS a tornado. (Admittedly, watching you sprint on foot seeing the bottom of your shoes makes me chuckle.)
Me: oohhh hell nooo! Sprinting on foot in the opposite direction AWAY from a tornado.
Although I’d imagine silently sitting in the backseat watching would be AWESOME!!! Glad I found your channel.
That was some wind bag!! Hit here with what seemed like hurricane force. Sorry you landed in such a frustrating situation, but still some interesting footage. Thanks for being out there. 😊👍
Ya win some ya lose some.
This would make for an awesome Subaru commercial. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yes, I feel you. I tried to go storm chasing last month when there was the surprise mid-March Ohio tornado outbreak, but by the time I left, I was too far behind the tornadic storms to catch up and see them, and the storm I was on didn't produce anything. It was rough for sure.
Feels bad!
It's okay to show the "busts" too. Just part of the game.
good job friend
such a bummer. Thanks for sharing that it's not all fun and games. ugh, 90 minutes of driving in that pouring rain & strobe lightning! I loathe that type of drive. Wears you out!
A real bust. Wasn’t it, Andrew? A lousy day for you! Cheer up! Could be worse! 😮😮😮😅😅
the first 30 seconds perfectly captures the reality of chasing lol - we've all been there
I felt your reaction to seeing the storm’s base in my bones
The rush of a lifetime sometimes, and others, well, damn it.
