  • Jesuit priest and tribal rights activist Stan Swamy passed away on Monday afternoon, two days after he was placed on ventilator support in Mumbai’s Holy Family Hospital.
    Incidentally, the Bombay High Court was urgently hearing his bail petition due to his deteriorating health when it was announced that he passed away at 1:30pm.
    In Oct 2020, Stan Swamy was accused and arrested in the Elgar Parishad case by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) from his residence in Ranchi. Other accused include Varavara Rao and Sudha Bharadwaj

    What a courageous man we lost! Salute to his bravery and unflinching commitment towards tribal rights!
    His murder will remain as a black spot on India's Judiciary system and the Govt forever.

      It is easy to get a TV and a sleep well mattress in this country but not a straw to drink his t nd warm clothes to keep a 84 year man. SHAME ON THE TALOJA JAIL PPL. EHO TOOK 3 MONTHS TO PROVIDE HIM INSPITE OF THE COURT ORDERS. The state of AFFAIRS in my country make me cry.

    "Inocent until proven guilty" this should be the legal principle but in India people are pronounced guilty before trial & for this our police, media &most importantly our judiciary is responsible.

      Media trials, too much emphasis on leaked police reports which are not even admissible on courts, conspiracy theories...     The governments of Jharkhand, Maharashtra AND of India killed him.
    We know that the NIA does this pretty often (with only 2% conviction rate in UAPA I think that's very obvious) but in this case all the CM's who were responsible for his custody (at any time) should be held responsible for his murder.
    It doesn't even matter whether you hold these governments responsible. We know they killed him.

    He died due to negligence of government institutions mainly jail authorities & court authorities who denied bail for a pandemic patient of 84 year old.They took a month to give a straw for a patient who is suffering from perkinson sickness . Here patients hands shakes continuously .

    He was only fighting for the rights of tribal people given by the law made by the politicians. But these politicians did not like him empowering the tribal people and making them aware about their rights. In a way Stan Swamy was standing between the greed of the politicians and their cronies. They decided to silence him.

    The man who packed his little belongings for his jail term. Juxtapose it to Arnab Goswami who had the govt, media, judiciary, money, good health, Z + security and still cried and wailed as he was picked up by the police.

    Someone needs to do a story about all these institutions, NIA, RBI, CBI, etc.. we don’t know who these people are.. to whom they owe allegiance to, how did they come into those positions etc. We need a hell a lot of investigative journalists today than ever.
    Only then can we get a clear picture of what it is that we are dealing with in the first place.
