i live in a village near Nazareth and we have in our garden a 40 years old mango tree .. it makes extremely big amount of fruit each year.. and we give away free to people.. after watching your video i thought to myself, ohh i can do it!! lol so now im growing a baby mango tree, the first second generation. thank you for your nice video and effort.
my grandma started to grow a tree when she bought a house 40 years ago and now our tree grows more than 1,000 mangos a year (they are small, sweet, and orange/yellow). Our tree needed a lot of maintenance when it was first growing but once it was in adulthood, we just watered it daily and planted the tree in the backyard!
i have done this with a couple, but last I crumpled up actually a plastic grocery bag around the seed inside plastic ziplock bag and the plastic does not mold, it worked much nicer than paper. Viva paper towels were the best paper towels that I have used, they did not mold quick like the cheaper paper towels, which i had to change out like every 2 days
We have 2 old mangoes in the family we all take my cousin's land he doesn't mind. I grow 3 avocados that I grow, bananas, culantro outside and on my balcony They are awesome. You put a leaf of culantro in your soup bean or stews. Great video.
OH MY GOSH! Just 2 weeks ago I was searching how to grow a mango tree from seed, because I wanted free houseplants. Now you uploaded this one. THANK YOU! You are the only one who gave care tips because I started like 8, and I have no idea how to care for them. They already have roots now! I am soo thrilled it worked! But I used the paper towel method, since the vid I watched suggested that. I also started like 6 avocado trees lol. Sorry for the rambling.
So many views and no one takes the time to “like”. Your video deserves as many likes as views! Thanks for making it. I grow avocados so thought I would try mango. So thanks to your video, I will start this weekend.
When your Mango got larger, did the branches start to resemble vines? Mine is turning into a creeper like a morning glory after looking like a tree until it was a bit larger than the one you have in your hand. Also, Americans do not use the metric system. Always use feet.
Thank you Scarlett, for showing us the best way to get the mango seed out, by simply cutting the hard shell on the thin, softer side to make a slit. This is the easiest and safe way that I have seen. I am excited now to grow my mango tree. With all the information you gave us, I think I have a high chance of succeeding. Take care.
No just put that seed in potting soil right out of the fruit . water it three times a week just good moister not sopping wet .four weeks you'll have a tree four inches .high I've done it ten times my way .
Never thought of growing a mango tree indoors! Of course we do it with avocados, so why not? Having grown up in Jamaica I know how huge both trees can get!
I grow mango trees in here in the UK I also gave some to a place that I go to but they over watered them, killed one and the other two lose there leafs in winter but grow back in summer. When I grow my mango plants I normally plant about ten seeds because not all of them survive the first year and ensures I get some healthy mango trees that carry on growing. Mine are about 3 years old now.
I have just decided to try and grow mangoes. I have an order coming in next week and will ask my son to keep some of the seed back. Your advice was great, you added a lot more detail than some channels, which literally show you how to germinate the tree and nothing past that point. When I had building work done, I had a radiator placed below the lounge window, when the curtains are drawn that heat becomes trapped behind, thus warming the sill area. I also have a greenhouse in which I grow citrus, peach and melon. This autumn I plan to add heating to the greenhouse for the first time. I now think, following your advice, that I will overwinter the mango in the house (on the heated windowsill) and put it out (into the greenhouse) in late spring. My trees are all in containers and get moved about regularly, as needs must. I am now keen to get going on this new project! Thanks for your sharing your knowledge, Vox.
This technique of putting the seed in a glass as described in the video 100% works. I did it and in a week I saw a root coming out, however I think I may have unintentionally put the seed upside down because the sprout it coming out of the top instead of the bottom! Not sure how this will plan out as I am not even at home and unable to check it. I did change the water when I went to check on it. Anyone who is looking to grow a mango plant this is by far the best method to do so. Good luck!
P.Varsani no, it's not, you just put it in a pot with whatever soil you want and it'll sprout within the week. I have 4, they're about 14 inches tall and 1½ months old. You just need to water them everyday, no need to do all that unnecessary shit. Seriously one of the easiest trees to grow.
Awesome video, thank you! I now have a 2 yr. old mango tree from seed, but I was having some problems, which I will hopefully be able to solve now. I've actually started adding nutrients to the water and it started growing new leaves which it hasn't done for a while before that. It's about 20-30 cm-s tall, but it's lost a few leaves and I had no idea about frostbite, especially since the tree stands on the windowsill, above a radiator. Thank you again! You've helped a lot.
I just put my 2 mango seeds in soil, watered them once (it was pretty cold in my country this month and not a lot of sun so there was no need for more water) and now, 2 or 3 weeks later i have 2 beautiful mango plants who look really healthy and grow really fast. I think putting them in soil after you remove that brown thing from the seed, is the best option. They also developed a really long and nice root system. The only down side to this is that, if you are a curios person, you won't be able to see anything happening in the first one and a half maybe 2 weeks, but once you see it emerge from the soil it will grow really fast. Mine emerged a few days ago and now it is more than 6 inches/15 cm tall. The other one emerged a bit later, but it is catching up. So definitely start them in soil and make sure not to drown them in water. Water your soil only if it feels dry at the top and don't try to make it grow faster. Leave nature do it's work
I enjoyed this very much, not just for the vital information, but your attitude to the plant is actually almost maternal, as if they were your babies...Awwwww how cute!
My mango plant I sprouted from a seed randomly decided to have GIANT leaves. They sorta show up as red fancy leaves, then just droop like a wet sock till it start gaining green pigments in them, and slowly rise like an umbrella. Very interesting way to get new leaves as it likes to get the size first before it start using them :D
This is the first time I've seen the wet (shot glass) method for mangoes! I have started a bunch of them with the paper towel method and you are completely correct about molds forming. I got a couple of mangoes at the farmer's market this week and I am going to start this first one of them using your method tonight. Great video btw! Keep up the good work.
Use a tiny bit of hydrogen peroxide in water and use plastic wrap as a substitute for the paper towel Since it’s not an organic material, it won’t grow mold :)
I have always wanted to try growing mango & avocado from seeds. So I'm starting today with Mango. Thanks for all your good advice. Especially the part about the sap burning your skin or the plant.
So glad I watched this, you answered a lot of questions I had, thanks! I have a 6 week old tree about 6 inches tall at this time and a small yellow seed ready to plant.
subbed. i like plants and try about any plant but i love trees. i do live in a appartement with a balcony and its very very hot on that balcony so i will put it there next summer. right now its still drying out so i can put the seed in a shot glass cause thats what u said. i love this video because u gave every single detail i wanted to know and gave extra . thank u !
It should be noted that when you grow a mango tree from seed you won't know for sure what kind of mango you have until it bears fruit. Chances are good that it won't be the same kind of mango as the parent tree. If you want to be absolutely certain you're getting a specific variety you need to use the potted mango as "rootstock" and graft a "scion" from the tree you want onto it. I did this with a mystery mango tree I got from a neighbor...grafted a Lemon Merengue onto it. Grafted trees should produce fruit sooner.
Depends if its poly or mono embryonic. The one tree that sprouts from mono seeds will not be identical to the mother, but with poly seeds, one will have been from fertilization like the mono, but any others that grow will be identical to the mother tree, and thus the mother fruit.
@@chairwithoutwheels9148 Yep, good point...thanks for pointing that out. One year I got a lot of varieties of mango drops from a local mango farmer and opened the seeds. The vast majority of them were mono but a few were poly. I sprouted them and one of them is growing in my back yard now. We'll see what happens.
@@Acev14 If you use the grafting method (or similar, like air layering) the resulting fruit should taste exactly like the parent fruit. I think the same can genreally be said if you sprout a polyembryonic seed and then use the dominant sprout of the bunch.

Sunlamp and adequate water are a must. We live in Central Florida, our friends in NY or Chicago can get their tropical fruits on that recommendation. The best alternative is a greenhouse, if available.Mangoes tolerate heat 25-35C in summer 10-20C in winter

thank you for this video!! I have had a hard time finding care tips after successful sprouting of the seed! awesome! I was specifically looking to deal with the paused growth of my mango trees but you laid my anxieties to rest when you talked about them growing in spurts.

I trow my mango seed in the worm bid a few months ago and today I found the seed opened and with some roots So I planted it a pot that and some potting soil in it but my concern it this winter Will it survive the Pa weather or should I bring it in this winter.
My two seed doing well since I did 1sr step in water since June 10, 12 days ago , one has 5 roots the other 3, but not stand coming, will they come later ? Please advise I’m very happy since it is my first time from central Florida
Today July 3/19 my two mango seeds, are doing great , stand came out , one has 3 leaves other5 stands with small leaves 3 to 4 , color is reddish amber ,stand are 2.5 inches tall . They still in water , when do you recommend putting in a pot with soil .?
my mango grew for awhile then the leaves fell off however the spikes still grow. thanks to you I now know the spike are developing leaves however improper climate may be causing then not to develop futher than spikes. Also I now know why steam comes of my plant soil when i water, lol well I think I know. is it the sap?
As a kid 1970 Miami, Fl I’d climb mango tree in my back yard (Haden variety). Sit in the tree pull mangoes from branches and eat‘em. One day I pulled a mango over my left shoulder and the mango-sap dropped onto my shoulder. Burning. Surprised me. It didn’t stop me. I kept eating and pulling. To this day 51yrs later I’ve that scar on my left shoulder. Memories of Good days. (The tree is huge. Looks as if the tree top is touching the clouds)
Hey what happens if you don’t re-pot them mango?! I live in a apartment and have it outside. I just wanna have a medium sized plant. Will it stay a certain size if I don’t re-pot it?
this is great ! I am working on my first ever mango seed and after a few days in a small jar it's coming along pretty wel, I can see it develop from day to day which is awesome :D
Hi, I’m trying to grow a mango plant from its seed. I followed your shot glass method and now my seed has a nice long root. When and how do I pot it? Does the seed have a top and bottom side when putting it in a pot?
Ya. Plant it tap root down. You don’t need to plant it right away As long as you keep the water clean you can grow it in the water until it grows it’s seed leaves. I like to plant mine with the seed an inch under the soil. 🌱
Can that happen with sunburn? I left my Monstera in a curtained windowsill for a week while I was on vacation, came back and found some leaves had turned black. New growth looks fine. It's super hot and humid where I live. I read that this plant likes indirect light so I thought my placement was okay. Will they turn green again or should I just cut off those parts of the leaves? Do I need to put fertilizer like the mango needs? Thank you for any suggestions!
I just have one chilling in my fish tank and i keep trying to lean it towards the window and it grows away from it and I was wondering if it preferred the lights in the room from the sun? No it probably just prefers the warmth of the room because I live in New England and i started growing this seed in the winter.
I've had a couple of mango seeds, which I extracted exactly as you instruct, but they looked as if they were beginning to rot, the big, bean-like halves had a dark shadow to them, and when I broke one half across, it was dark brown and soft all through the middle. Would a seed like this still sprout, or do I need to look for one without that problem (if indeed, it even is a problem)...?
I was eating a mango and opened the seed/shell so i can put the seed in the soil and after 3-5 days it was sprouting 😊 once its growing leaves i will transfer it into a small indoor pot and put it in my room 😁
Hi!From Japan, thank you for your nice information about mangoes. How long does it take to get fruit from seeds actually ? It is often said we need five or six years to get fruits. Is it true?
I’m growing my first mango in Deep South Texas. I opened my seed today and it was already germinated. So I put it in soil and put the bag over it. How much do I water it over the time
I found a sprouted mango seed in my compost. It has a stem about 12inches tall with tiny leaves at the top. I've planted it in a pot but should I cut the stem down, will it grow new leaves?
So when do you expect it to bear fruit? Or is it just for decoration? Yes the mango seedling is a beautiful plant all in its in but I hear that they don’t bear fruit until 5-8 years unless you graft them then 3-4 years. I have about ten seedlings that are only a couple months old and they seem to be doing well here in California. But am seriously thinking bonsai. Or just keeping them less then 2 feet tall. Jc

I trow my mango seed in the worm bid a few months ago and today I found the seed opened and with some roots So I planted it a pot that and some potting soil in it but my concern it this winter Will it survive the Pa weather or should I bring it in this winter.
Are you based in the UK? And is that where you do the Mango Planting?
Thank you..........I already have 3 trees growing in my back yard in Miami.
thanks, very informative
My two seed doing well since I did 1sr step in water since June 10, 12 days ago , one has 5 roots the other 3, but not stand coming, will they come later ? Please advise I’m very happy since it is my first time from central Florida
Sounds good. Give it time. Mangos are slow growing.
@@HowToGrowAGarden thank you will do
Today July 3/19 my two mango seeds, are doing great , stand came out , one has 3 leaves other5 stands with small leaves 3 to 4 , color is reddish amber ,stand are 2.5 inches tall .
Could you make a video of the Steam? I need more info before I can help you?
How do you kill the pests? Which pesticide do you use?
As a kid 1970 Miami, Fl I’d climb mango tree in my back yard (Haden variety). Sit in the tree pull mangoes from branches and eat‘em. One day I pulled a mango over my left shoulder and the mango-sap dropped onto my shoulder. Burning. Surprised me. It didn’t stop me. I kept eating and pulling. To this day 51yrs later I’ve that scar on my left shoulder. Memories of Good days. (The tree is huge. Looks as if the tree top is touching the clouds)
Wonderful advise! Thank you!
you're very welcome!
Awesome, Very informative and we're applying what you taught us. Thank you.
Hey what happens if you don’t re-pot them mango?! I live in a apartment and have it outside. I just wanna have a medium sized plant. Will it stay a certain size if I don’t re-pot it?
It will stay small.
this is great ! I am working on my first ever mango seed and after a few days in a small jar it's coming along pretty wel, I can see it develop from day to day which is awesome :D
What soil do you use?
Yes. How much is the ph level
Do you eventually plant it outside or no?
Can that happen with sunburn? I left my Monstera in a curtained windowsill for a week while I was on vacation, came back and found some leaves had turned black. New growth looks fine. It's super hot and humid where I live. I read that this plant likes indirect light so I thought my placement was okay. Will they turn green again or should I just cut off those parts of the leaves? Do I need to put fertilizer like the mango needs? Thank you for any suggestions!
Mangos LOVE greenhouses and despise artificiallly heated air without the right humidity. You got it right.
*tries to grow mango in England*
It worked for me 😂
Grow it indoors. I've got a load of mini avocado trees.. :)
I have a question this is my first time doing. After you ate your. mango and save the seed how long do you let it dry ? Before you take the seed out
You don’t need to let it dry. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don’t the pod doesn’t effect the seed.
How large can they get in the house without trimming? Or do they just continue growing if you re-pot them?
Good tips thnk
Sounds like you have a rotten seed. It should be firm and after a few days of being in the water it should start to turn slightly green.
Hi ,I'm trying to grow mango tree in the UK,..I'd just like to know what kind of food it needs and also how are your mango tree doing now?
I'm curious why you recommend vermiculate over perlite? I thought vermiculite would hold too much water? Thank you for all the info!!
Great information!!
I was eating a mango and opened the seed/shell so i can put the seed in the soil and after 3-5 days it was sprouting 😊 once its growing leaves i will transfer it into a small indoor pot and put it in my room 😁
Thanks for sharing! I have something to look forward to. :)
How much do I water it over the time
hello, just wanted to know how your mango doing since its plantation !
Minji100 sadly it died. But I’m gonna try again

Jc
In South Texas you can graph your mango tree in a large pot, and produce fruit, it gets really hot in the summer and fall with high humidity.
That sounds great.
Mine is 3 months old pot in canada. And has stopped growing and stuck in the growth . What do I need to feed the mango tree ?
So much helpful info in one vid..thank you
I started one 2 weeks ago and already see a tree growing..🌞😊
