Oh man, this Year of Breaking Promises sounds like it's going to be absolutely incredible.
Best year of ComicPOP yet? Legitimately, doing a bunch of Sal's "unmentionables" just might be it, and I bet the entire population agrees.
How many months till frank Millers holy terror is my first question.
Or the nightmarish batman odyssey lol
@@radicalraddish6292that would be hilarious
Do I hear Alien vs Predator vs The Terminator?
You know I was re-reading Knightfall recently and I can definitely see why the writers never liked Azrael as Batman because it only worked when Bane was the main villain and once he was done, they didn't know what to do with Azrael. Plus it was kind of a joke to them to see how long people hated the change so they purposly made him stupid on the costume alone. But people loved it because it was the Image era and the Batman team was more like "Why? This is stupid!".
My understanding was that all of that was intentional and the entire Azrael arc was planned the way it turned out from the beginning.
Every time Sal says something to the effect of "I swore I'd never do this one", you know it's gonna be a great one
42:09 I love the scene where Catwoman meets Azrael Batman and just knows he’s a fake. Apparently she can “smell Batman’s pheremones” and knows that Azrael ain’t the real thing. Which makes you think of how horrible Azrael must smell because you know he isn’t showering at this point.
I love how they have to have that as an explanation, not the fact Catwoman's known Batman for *years* and this batshit madness is so out of character for Bruce in the first place.
Punisher sees Nun spreading holy water everywhere
Punisher: "Nuns don't work on Sunday." shoots
Punisher, later: "Why did you have the assassin try to poison me with a neurotoxin instead of just dousing me with the rocket fuel or just shooting me?"
Jigsaw: "...I didn't hire an assassin."
Punisher: "..."
It's okay Punisher. Either she was a really bad nun or a really bad assassin.
Okay that nun was probably a former Assassin and sense the killer intent in Frank and said one more job
Meanwhile, back in New York:
Daredevil: "I wonder how my mom is doing in Gotham..."
This wasn't a good episode, it was a great episode! You show that a very bad boolk also can have very good qualities and how frustrating that is.
Would you guys consider doing a Back Issues for 'Superman Smashes the Klan' by Gene Luen Yang? It's a phenomenal story that deserves more attention.
That's the book based off the old radio show, right? Been meaning to read that.
@@camerondodge2070 Pretty much, it's inspired by the Superman radio serial, "Clan of the Fiery Cross."
It’s excellent and really gives insight into racial perception.
They totally should! A great series
one problem i can see is no way the word klan doesnt get you auto demonitized if not straight up age gated
Batman gaining weight on the cover was DC predicting the Dad wave of comic book readers and just knowing their audience. ;)
I thought a large demographic of their readers at the time was already adult comic nerds, it just wasn’t trendy like now 🤔
Any back issues with azrael is always a fun time.
This wasn't something you said you'd never do, but you did say maybe you'll do it someday.
Going over Alan Moore's pitch for Twilight of the Superheroes.
Ah, so it's one of those metaphorically literal lakes of fire. I see.
Lake of Fire is way cooler of a title then a book with Frank and Az-Bat deserves
Hulk Grey is another on the never do list, you mentioned it on the Spiderman Blue episode.
13:54 “That’s DUMAS.” I see what Ben did! He called Jean Paul Valley “DUMBASS”. I can’t breathe🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I’m glad someone else got this up here, too
@@marcamusprime9513 I needed someone to because I couldn't understand it
The last 3 episodes have been pure gold. They just keep on getting better and better.
MARVILLE it's an incoherent nightmare realm of a book and the only metaphor I can think of is the scene in evil dead where all the stuffed animal trophies are laughing at Ash. That's a similar experience to marville
DC writers: Why don't people hate Azrael yet? It's almost like appealing to 90s comic audience makes 90s comic audience like our books.
2023 is off to an interesting start. Never thought I'd see this on the couch.
The employee turnover at the Gotham city water reservoir has to be insane.
The dumbass/dumas joke was brilliant. Bless Ben.
It wouldn’t be a bad 90’s comic episode without Sal mentioning wizard magazine, the two are just intertwine
As much as Jean-Paul valley is a bit of a loon, I do love him. The new run on him is pretty good.
“Never say never” Too true Sal, too true! 😂
Within a second of the episode starting I laugh out loud.
I love this channel.
I remember in a very old episode you said you'd never do Marville, and now that you've already done Death Metal, Marville is really what I'd like to see you guys cover most.
Damn we are getting all kinds of books I never thought you guys would do the last couple weeks and I am LOVING it!!!!
Sal, you were right about DC being chill about the crossovers with Marvel existing. In the back of Dark Crisis Big Bang, they mention the Amalgam universe as Earth-1996
I know Az-Bat was supposed to be a take that at Image, but the first iteration of his outfit was amazing. The fact they kept messing with it is just painful.
I think that might be why they kept messing with it.
They were doing it deliberately to get readers to stop liking him so much to lay the ground work for the return of the original.
Called it lol!!! “Hey man, I cheated okay?”
Please tell me y'all are going to do Darkseid vs Galactus!
“Maybe you need to start being the right Batman. That’s why you got punished out.”
53:10 the gas grenade and helmet bit is why I watch Comic Pop 😂
Batman vs punisher sounds fun I am very excited to see how this turn out.
I wish Marvel and DC to get out there butts and just do a crossover
Imagining the Knightfall arc from a criminals perspective is terrifying and hilarious at the same time. Look at it this way, Batman, a guy who has put you and your friends in prison or the hospital more times than you can count. He is absolutely terrifying to you and all the people you know, and then a Luchador from out of nowhere comes and says he has killed Batman, BUT THEN Batman completely fine comes out of nowhere and tries to beat up the same Luchador but breaks his leg and then disappears again. He then comes back covered in spikes, with glowing red eyes, no face, and can shoot projectiles at you like a gun. He then almost kills the Luchador and murders another criminal instead. This terrifying creature is then kicked in mid-air by a guy wearing a disco jockey outfit. And then disappears again. Then normal Batman comes back but is slightly shorter, kind of funny, beats up two faces, then disappears again! Then the Batman from before comes back with underwear and then just goes back to beating you up as normal. That means that if someone kills Batman, he’ll just come back scarier and stupider.
I’d love to see you all do Marville
You want them to go as insane as Lewis?
What have you done
Youre my go to guy for comic knowledge so I for one definitely appreciate the research you do
Any time you guys shit on Azrael it's a great time!
If we're talking about "never-gonna-do" books, Hellboy comes to mind.
Peak 90s awesomeness
Lake of fire, I just need everyone to know nirvana unplugged played in my head through 90% of this episode
43:17 That’s just heartbreaking honestly
45:55 if you are familiar with it that’s clearly modeled after the croton Reservoir which I did a lot of research on and had to draw myself for a project in school last year in which I adapted “The Alienist” by Caleb Carr. It takes place in the 1800s when NYC had a Reservoir just like that. It was then taken down and became the NY public library.
Gotta hack that "Nastygram."
Jean-Paul Valley believing that St. Dumas want him to be a soldier for him sounds similar to Moon Knight and Konshu, but in the Marvel Universe is real.
Moon Knight is Marvel's Batman and Azrael Batman is DC's Moon Knight. It's like poetry it rhymes.
Mark Waid's EMPIRE!!!!!!!!!!! Pls, please please!!! Been waiting on it since TVLittleHouse Year 1!
WIZARD MAGAZINE, always a trusted source. (LOL) 😅
Starting this year off with a banger! An ab workout of laughs!
Dude…… y’all gotta do Watchmen 🤯 Sal has talked about how he would never do it….. after Rebirth and the Button, Doomsday Clock, and the Death Metal…… you gotta do Watchmen!
Nomoz was in the Azreal solo series right after KnightsEnd. Nomoz with help of Azreal leads a rebellion of Trolls against the Order.
Pretty sure Sal said he was never going to do No Man's Land or 52 wink wink nudge nudge.
Marvel actually references JLA/Avengers in a semi-recent Thor book
13:49 The perfect opportunity, taken.
I kinda Wished Azreal/AzBats was on Batman the animated series and I kinda wish Knightfall & No Man's Land happened in the DCAU .
But yeah I have never read this AzBats & Punisher crossover but this does sound Hilarious 😂 Lol I kinda want to check it out
The Year of Broken Promises sounds like it could be the name of a Marvel OR a DC book.
You did Armageddon 2001 and you said you would never do that book either. What other books you don't want to do that you will end up doing.
13:45 Ben, your timing has finally reached perfection.
I do not know if Sal is still looking for books you said you would never do. But, I watched through the tangent playlist and Tiffany mentioned never doing another volume of Marvel's Runaways, in the Life After Runaways tangent. Just wanted to add it because I was unsure if Tiffany had a horse in the never do race.
Back should just be comics the host either hates or loves. Absolute peak of comic book UA-cam.
You guys did amazing job tearing this comic apart
So many references to Batman begins in this issue 🤣
“I hope you’re lying. I still want to watch you bleed” is 2018 Steven Seagal on brand.
Omg. It's the aqua teen hunger force premise from the script in the live action episode. The water is infected with fire!
You guys should do the Archers Quest in GA and I would LOVE if you guys did the Superheavy arc of Batman.
Time to rewatch all of back issues to see the books you'll never do, to recommend on the next off the rack
Oh man we starting 2023 off STRONG
If another crossover were to happen, I would like to see one where the Marvel heroes and the DC heroes swap places, so you'd have Daredevil dealing with Gotham villains and Batman dealing with Spider-Man villains for instance
Never Say Never Again? Geez, Sal really has James Bond on the mind this episode, lol
Ooh, Sal is looking for suggestions on what other promises he can break in 2023/comics he swore he’d never tackle? How about issues 101-300 of Spawn? You guys can break it down in another delightful multi part series no problem. Tiff will probably even make you wear your Jammie’s
It's time for Force Works
Have you guys considered doing Batman: No Man’s Land or Batman: War Games at some point?
I’d love to see you guys cover marvel zombies, it’d be absolutely hilarious hearing ben and Ethan’s reaction to…what Spider-Man did
ua-cam.com/video/QABegYrHRW4/v-deo.html
I love how this cross over does the bad guy team-up formula for our "heroes." shows that the two aren't heroes at all
I knew JPV was a bit unpopular and radical in his unhinged nature, but him driving alone and shouting into the Cave at night is funny, sad and tragic, and a harsh reminder that he cannot be Batman.
40:44 missed opportunity for a Scotty-Computers joke from Trek IV
Happy New Year Comic Pop!
Sal: "You sound as crazy as an outhouse rat." lol
Btw, any chance you'd do the crossover of the Kyle Rayner Green Lantern meeting the Silver Surfer?
2023 the year Sal read DC 52
Thank god we have ethan to point out the science plot holes.
Pouches: image was very popular and HUGE into pouches at the time. No joke.
No Man's Land this year potentially? You were showing it how big it is and saying you will never do it.
Books Sal said he’d never do??? Oh yeah! Time for the Evolutionary War!!
Insert The Meat Puppets Lake of Fire song 🎵 here . Love it guys!
Happy New Year guys and Tiff!
Archie v predator baby, let's get it goin.
Don't know if it was ever a "never do", but I really wanna see the mess of the Korvac saga to complete the set of early Marvel crossover events!
IMMORTAL HULK Vol.2
Id say azrael is the right batman because he is what most people think punisher is. Actually a better crossover would of been azrael vs moon knight
13:50 😂
I would laugh hysterically if most of 2023 was the gang doing books Sal said they would never though.
I have this as part of the second DC Marvel trade. Which also included the Batman Captain America crossover which is good.
Something is killing the children!
Not only should you do this series, I would especially love an episode that goes through volumes 1-3, that’s about 15 issues which isn’t too much in theory and you could cover a lot of the story in broad strokes
Plus, it gets to be a Tiffany episode! Lol
Hey guys, sorry been awhile. I have been working bit out of state and doing some interesting projects. Anywho so I'm playing caught up and saw this video, brought me back to when this came ok. Ok context, so my cousin and I used to read comics but, I was marvel he was d.c. HInts why I love danny ketch so much. I also loved the punisher, so I get the marvel side he gets the d.c. side. I think it was like a Christmas or something. Needless to say he was very sad lol. Love y'all keep up the great work.
ComicPop in 2023, breaking promises
Oh dear...it's azbat
Credit where credit's due. Lake of Fire is a cool title...
I can only think of four things you've said you'd never do: DC trinity war, another venom miniseries (i wanna say specifically the madness, or one of the other specific ones you did on gbu), another wildcats crossover event because of the low view count of the jla wildcats one, and watchmen because everyone in your group already read it.
I was hoping the first issue would appear on a good the bad and the ugly episode but taking the whole story is good as well.
I love overly design stupid characters a lot but I have never once thought that Azrael Batman looks cool. It just looks wrong.
Day 1 of asking for Frank Miller's Holy Terror in celebration of this New Year of Broken Promises
So if it is the year of doing comics you said you wouldn't do. Are we going to get an episode on Pleasent Hill?
Another great video like all was guys. Do the sword of Azrael 2022 comic books series. I really want to know your guys opinion on it.
