Thankyou Mike for an inspiring lesson.
Not too advanced for a beginner banjo player aspiring to play melodic style

Is Melodic banjo the same as Chord Melody banjo?

No, quite different. Melodic banjo is a style that allows you to play note-for-note melodies which is different than Scruggs style which normally approximates the melody. Chord melody is a style where you play the melody while playing 2-4 note chords at the same time. Basically playing the melody and harmony together. - Mike

@@MikeHeddingMusicThis is exactly how I would like to play the banjo. Would this be considered Melodic style? ua-cam.com/video/3EUndP_h0i0/v-deo.html

Mike, can you recommend some sites to find tabs for melodic banjo style songs ?. I really enjoyed this video and hope to hear more.

I have a bunch of melodic banjo tabs on my website. Tony Trischka has some great stuff as does Bennett Sullivan. - Mike

I learned banjo from John Hartford back in the mid sixties by slowing down my turntable and studying his picking patterns and playing those patterns on guitar until my dad finally bought me a banjo . That’s before John fully adopted the Scruggs style . To this day at 72 I play John’s style and mix in other picking patterns of my own that have allowed me to play smooth melodic banjo and sound somewhat original with what I write . Good lesson here , thank you . I’ve always enjoyed others playing their original banjo sounds without the heavy dominate Scruggs influence but more of an amalgamation of other styles . It’s refreshing . Otherwise everyone seams to sound the same.
