  • The San Francisco Chief proved to be popular with budget travelers through the 1960s which utilized Budd Hi-Level equipment borrowed from El Capitan. The SF Chief also had sleeping car arrangements and full food service. Often powered by the venerable Alco PA fleet making this unique train a favorite of rail photographers of the era. Finally after years of waiting those of us who recreate the Santa Fe in o scale can build this train accurately and with the right cars. In this consist I’m using Pecos River Brass 1951 Super Chief models and 1938 El Capitan models in brass as well as Golden Gate Depot models. In the 50s and later all these legacy cars built from 1937 to the 1950s found their way into service on a variety of trains. Pine series, Palm series, Big Domes, Hi-Level cars, and prewar diners and coaches found their way on this train sort of a pre Amtrak, Amtrak style consist.
