  • A family was living in this church until the early 2000's when they seemingly vanished leaving all of their belongings behind. This church has been sitting abandoned and neglected ever since, roughly 16-17 years. Any online searches turned up with no information.

    Check the tax records. That’s how I usually locate who owns property or where they are. It’s also how I found my Mom’s biological family in a round about way. The sanctuary is so gorgeous. It be so nice if someone could save at least that with the beautiful stained glass.

      The property taxes would have to have been paid or else the property would have been sold off to clear the debt. More research would uncover some answers.

      jgirl 34 I occasionally bid on contents of abandoned storage lockers. SOME companies request that the high bidder turn in personal belongings. Ordinarily I, myself would, but there's never any guarantee of anonymity, and I'd rather not leave any kind of paper trail that could result in a confrontation. I've found checkbooks, birth certs, car keys, nudie pics, convict cards, baby pics, stolen items, etc.. I sell what I can, donate, recycle,etc.. It's a hard-hearted business that I prefer to leave in the past.

      @@TheDriveInGuys I would hope that the real personal stuff you would try to get back to the people they belonged to. I had been paying on a storage unit for over four years and it had gone into arrears a couple times and I always managed to save it a new company bought the storage place and auction my stuff off without even a certified letter I understand it's my responsibility but they had to have known that the things clearly meant something to me if I had saved them so many times from the auction table. They took everything and a lot of the stuff really wouldn't have costed much but meant a lot to me. Things that were given to me from people that had passed that are not replaceable even if I could get the identical thing and nudie pics from when I was very young and naive and I'm now a mother which I know I should have kept a little closer to me but never thought what happened could happen. I can't even watch those storage shows because when my stuff was auctioned off it felt like my guts had been ripped out they told me 3 days after didn't even give me a chance to come up with the money and a chance at saving my things I would have paid anyting I even left the place a letter begging them even if something was broke like the desk my grandmother gave me to please just call me and I got nothing in response but they did have to come off a very beautiful Asian vase I had sealed with my uncle's ashes in it they at least had the decency to leave that at the office for me but I would have paid whatever they asked I had been stockpiling Furniture in there for a future home after my children had grown and I could have nice things again. I'm glad you at least try to make sure that some of those things get back to the people because they truly do mean a lot to them baby pictures and things like that are not replaceable unless they are saved on a disk somewhere. I will tell you I had over 30 years worth of clothing phases I have gone through and capped and the sentimental value was way more than any dollar amount they could put on the stuff broke my heart still does obviously from this rant sorry

    I went to an estate sale in a house belonging to an older gentleman who lived by himself for the last years of his life. He once had a family but they had all passed away or moved years ago. It was sad see random strangers picking through years of personal belongings and momentos. Last estate sale I've been to. This reminded me of that, without the lines of people picking through everything.

    • @JosieSchuller
      @JosieSchuller 3 роки тому +3

      @Wreckdiver59 I used to go to estate sales too because I loved old things but I stopped going to them because of the reason you mentioned: it made me sad to see people picking through personal items. The last one I went to was at an old lady’s home in a trailer park. The sale was being held by her nephew. All the old lady’s clothes were in garbage bags laying on her bed. At one point the old lady had tried her hand at doing watercolors because she had several sketchbooks with flower studies in them. I found one small cheap sketchbook that was empty and I thought I could get it for a few dollars but the guy wanted $10 for it. I thought about this poor old lady living alone in her single wide trailer with the brown fake paneled walls, doing watercolor studies of flowers, all alone. No one caring that she was learning how to paint. It made me so depressed to think about haggling over a dead person’s blank sketchbook that I left and never went to another one after that.

    Some people have taken old churches and made them into community centers for kids! Also depending on how many buildings lady around the church they've also made tiny homes out of them. There's quite a few antiques in the building. Remarkable that the stained glass is all still there intact!

    Financial ups and downs. Closing churches sell the property so that they can close out their federal paperwork. Problem is that the only good fit for a church is another congregation and there is not always one around looking for the exact size of building. So it gets sold off to the highest bidder who may not realistically be able to maintain the building. The heating and cooling alone can run in the tens of thousands. All that square footage of roofing to be maintained ... So they stay until the money runs out and then have to leave abruptly. Possibly moving in with relatives elsewhere in the country. Often times they have some hopes of turning their fortunes around and coming back but that doesn't prove practical. Hence all the personal items left behind. They may have been trying to stock up for a thrift store or run a clothes donation ministry. Usually part of the pact of receiving donation is that you have to take everything on offer and use or dispose of it. No cherry picking, which would explain the odd assortment.

    I am used to seeing deserted places where old people have died and it is apparent they had no family so its all left to rot. But this is not the norm for sure. That is way too many clothes for just a family. Unless there were like forty people in the group. It could have been donations they were sitting up to give away but something happened and they left. Very interesting situation. It looks more like they ran or fled for some reason and they left in a really big hurry. Stay Safe out there.
