At first I wasn’t a fan, but it’s definitely growing on me! Only changes I would make is the first hairpin uses the original T1 and it’s radius so it’s a slightly larger and faster turn. then the shortcut between the T5-T2 would instead use the original T5 and have the shortcut somewhere between T5-6, just to make it a bit of a slower section before the *incredibly* fast straight.
@@8jof544 do you realized that Jerez longest straight is 600m, which is like Catalunya back straight.... There is no hay we would se better racing at Jerez, it would be much worse with no heavy braking zones and short straights. If you want to have a good spanish track fo F1 racing you must look at Mototland Aragon
Very good. Very imaginative and great attention to detail. I don't know if this would make Catalunya a great circuit for racing, but it certainly would be an improvement. I would love to watch some races on this circuit.
I love the layout concept, I would personally keep the extisting T5 and T9 corner radius as it would be an unnecesary expend to redo them, also I will keep T4 asphalted as it can still be used in the club layout. Finally I would make T1 a bigger radius cause a slow harpin is also not good for overtakes. In overall your changes would make racing way way better
Good fun to watch it reshaped. Sure, I'd add more twists - Eau Rouge alike on that back "straight". And would reshape corners 3&4 to work a bit like Cork Screw. Elevation drop is just about right 😉 Nice work. Let's see other tracks 👍
As far as i really want to change the layout, the most popular form of racing in spain is Motorcycle racing (Just to comparison, 4 spanish driver in all across F1 ladder system vs 30 spanish riders in all across MotoGP class). Ever wonder why there were so many fast sweeping corner? It's to accomodate motorcycle to corner smoother and brake safer. And it evidently, that was the original plan of the track were be. So basically, F1 is stuffed. They can't really change the layout to be sharper and exciting, nor they have other venues in spain that suited to F1 both from racing and economically sensible.
Unfortunately the new configuration works without the chicane really to fix any track we need tyres to degrade more without a sharp dropout like in 2011 to encourage more interesting strategies and crucially no more boring 0 overtakes 1 stop race
@@funwithsometracks Thanks. Could you provide some further information on how design tracks in Sketchup please ? I‘ve already tried using it for that and I found it quite difficult
I like it. But I think it'd be low down force, making DRS less effective. But a team that gets its ground effect aero correct would thrive on the circuit in my humble opinion. Which would be good for the current regulations.
I like it, I came up with something not totally dissimilar to this actually. The first corner was more open but basically doubled back as does yours, I had a slightly tighter double left before doing more or less the same thing you did at the 'corkscrew' and exactly the same thing after that. I'm of the view that the design is so flawed major surgery is the only thing that will do the job. They've dumped the chicane for this year but I doubt it'll be much better as it was crap with or without it!
It's nice to know that we thought in a similar way! I'm looking forward to seeing this year's race without the chicane. The flow of the circuit will be much better and more entry speed into the start-finish straight could make DRS more effective :)
In an alternate universe, "Noillidiar" is the last name of a Catalan racing hero, who made auto racing the undisputed motorsport number one in Spain, leaving motorcycle racing to become a mere footnote in spanish motorsport history.
:D ahah Francesc Noillidiar, who raced for the multi-champion Footwork Mugen Honda, dominating the 90s, and his mythical teammate Taki Inoue, who also became world champion once in 1996 :D
I love Catalunya as a qualifying circuit fast flowy especially after bringing back the old non chicane layout but for racing why not replace it with Circuito Permanente del Jarama?
I really like to drive Barcelona, it has nice flow, but races can be duds here. But I think now that the god awful chicane has been removed, racing will improve.
If your a driver that likes unchallenging open radius corners and boring sections this track is perfect. And that new 3rd sector, i mean, what is that. The angle at which drivers enter the last corner is so awkward, at least in the original no chicane course there's a chance of taking that last corner flat, but this version is so weird
They don't want them to take the last corner flat because there's a grandstand there that people have had huge crashes at....Yes, it's a compromise but this version is far superior to the chicane (even if still means the final corner isn't flat out).
@@ivanbastos4963 Because people like you whine over the chicane. When someone breaks their legs on the grandstand barrier again, they'll bring the chicane back. I hate the chicane, but to criticize this gentleman's redesign is ridiculous. It's much better than the chicane--and like you said---it keeps them from going flat through the last corner. Best of both worlds.
I like the ideas, however instead of making T1 into a hairpin, I'd leave it as it is, make T2 a climbing left into wjat is now T6. Then I'd move the left hander you suggested connecting what is now T7 to the current T4 closer to after the current T8, and make it more of a mirror image of the current T4. For the esses section, I'd keep as much of the current T5 as possible and have the track feed directly into a right hander connecting to the current T3. And finally, I'd have the connection between T4 amlnd T9 more of a left-right-left, starting where T4 is currently, not too drastic, but just enough to make it single-file or a small lift. These changes should add a bit more lenght to the circuit compared to your proposal, keep more of the current layout and history of the circuit, and mean that the cut-through on the outside of T4 could fit both new connections.
There is one issue at the end. The double chicane-esky thing at the end is used for Rally-cross. It’s not a hard fix though, just re-add the lines over the other- hmmm… yeah, that part of the track is quite overwhelming. Still though, nice job on the rest of the track.
*lengthens the straight* me: NONO NONONO NOOOOOOO WHYYY? *proceeds to add montreal hairpin and sequence connecting to turn 3* me: OMG YESS THIS IS SOO MUCH BETTER
I would make turn 3 and 4 smoorther and faster. And turn 5 after backstraight slow sharp wide like the Hockheim backstraight. Overall seems nice cause the middle part we see few overtakes.
Ngl, this is fire. I have always thought of the Circuit de Cataluña as a boring and bland track, but this definately on of the best ways to spice it up

There is a very simple way to improve Circuit de Barcelona: move it to Portimão 😎
This is the best way.

T1-3 are the Heart of the circut. A Hairpin directly after the start is not a good idea. The rest is ok. So you have a good option to overtake.
Great track for motorcycle racing, not always so much for cars.
