To me it sounds more like you handicap yourself by choosing that playstyle, but it's your choice. Has nothing to do with the difficulty set by the game, the goal is to avoid damage and deal damage, so maybe you should try ranged and have an easier time rather than me going melee and making it harder for no reason.

My third ascension is TERRIBLE. The honour system is so stressful and UNFUN. I had to close the game twice in frustration after losing to BS curses and affixes. Honour is the worst. Not being able to go in and fight is just not fun.
There is absolutely no way they will keep the ascendancy trials how they are. Hopefully they will do as you suggested. As for extra charms I would rather them just give us campaign quests that unlock our slots and get rid of that mod entirely.
I never thought i would say this, but i miss lab. The way to ascend in poe2 right now is the worst, i don't think i can try to do another one after like 10 - 15 tries in sanctum, and as a melee, some things are so bad for melee in there. Another thing that makes this a bit boring to me right now, is the lack of drops, and lack of crafting, i have picked up 100 quarterstaffs im trying to craft, but everything is bricked by just 1 transmute. The crafting system is ALL RNG, and when nothing drops. Im in tier 6 maps now, but still using gloves i got at lvl 20, i cant find or craft anything better. And runes need to be able to be replaced, we dont need to be able to remove them. EDIT : And where is the MAP TAB????????????? its driving me insane trying to keep things organised.
I woke up this morning, logged onto the game, and actually slapped my forehead because I realized I didn't bring up the lack of a tab for waystones. Absolutely insane the way it is right now, I'm guessing the system must have **just** been finished before EA start.
Something I would add to this, is the fact that the design phylosophy seems incoherent. If they're trying to make the game more "Elden ring-like", then you cannot be punished with being kicked out of a map or trial for losing to the boss. The WHOLE point is to be allowed to practice. The reason people die 40 times to Malenia and don't quit, and then even praise the boss after finally defeating it, is because they can practice as much as they want. Having really hard fights is great, but only if you are allowed to retry immediately and learn the boss. So, in conclusion, the main problem with the trial bosses is the fact that if you lose, you need to invest a bunch of time to simply be allowed to try again, and at that point you already forgot how to fight the boss. This will force people to check videos before even trying, and I don't think that's healthy for the game.
I played a lot but failing trials upon trials with my warrior, having to wait 15 level is the most frustrated I ever was beside the Dreadnought I just wanted to quit.
Seriously, why are runes in sockets at all if they are just something we basically apply? It is the oddest system in the game which is saying something now!

they added a bunch of skills to use, that was cool, and they had to take away all the cool potions because of that.. alright.. so they replaced them with charms, neat.. Except the charms are boring as heck and we cann't use more than 1. meh
Just want to add, there is way too much suffix pressure on items in general. I need stats, I need res, and for example on belt I also need charm slots. Feels like there's much less choice for prefixes, you just want either life/mana, armor/ES, and that's about it. You can easily get everything you want on your prefixes while the same is not true of suffixes at all.
For ascendancy, there is still a chance that the 3rd one is a quest on act4. For it to be too difficult now is probably because they are still not done with the progression from act4 to endgame. GGG’s idea for runes was for it to be just a tool to help players progress. However, the problem with it is we do not have real crafting, everything is just gambling. I really hope they would try to look at other player’s perspective and not only their vision of the game. Belts. Imagine getting a 2 or 3 charm slot belt but you will lose a bunch of life or resistances if you use it because you can’t change runes and unlucky from gambling(exalt slam) or vendors. And this is on a SSF pov.
I just ascended the 3 floor Sekhema.. Full run with all deteails is on my channel, if u need a overview to help mate.. but damn, it was rough.. took 5 tries and lvl 82 to clear it eventually.. i hope they either balance it.. or give the option to repeat it without having to farm 10 maps to drop a trial
I know I can get through it, but it's the dread and revulsion I feel when thinking about it that's kind of the problem, not that I think I need to tell you that. It's just rough, and at a certain point people are going to be like 'Do I wanna do this multiple times a league, multiple leagues a year?'.

I followed a build guide and got stuck on the act 2 boss. My only choice to farm XP would have been the Dreadnought because every other map was more than 3 levels lower than me and you earn very little XP in zones at low level. I am starting a new character. Love the game but I am frustrated by the difficulty spike.
I understand why they made the changes to ascendency. Lab was, frankly, boring as hell and I'm not too sorry too see it gone. In theory. Obviously yeah though the big problem is the difficulty of Trials is way way out of wack and needs some serious adjustments (also it definitely is a victim of Act 4-6 not being in the game). I like the idea of the Trials and I think they can be more fun once the issues get worked out. For now though it's just assuming two ascendancies is the norm and anything else is a late game bonus. Belts needing a mod for more charm slots is dumb, its a bad design and they should just unlock more charm slots at higher tiers; it's a key feature of the belt and feels just designed to RNG screw you out of otherwise good belt rolls. Speaking of which, I think a very real discussion should be had about Movement Speed. Without all the fast movements in the game MS feels even more mandatory than it did in poe1 (and it felt pretty mandatory there). The game just feels soo much worse to play without at least some MS on boots, to the point where any pair of boots without them is basically unusable. I think GGG should seriously rethink either improving base MS and lowering the bonuses (or remove the stat altogether), or they should consider making MS an implicit mod on all boots. Maybe this issue (both issues) could be solved with a direct crafting bench, but I think both problems should be fixed elsewhere. Runes feel mostly fine to me, probably the issues get fixed with direct crafting. My only real beef atm is that you can't remove them, even if it destroyed the rune in the process (I have plenty that wouldn't be an issue).
Runes being replaceable is just common sense given the limited crafting system and putting sockets into items. Part of me feels like if they do unlock charms like I think they should use that to make charms to give more resistances ideally permanent bonus resistance, with better charms with the extra effects to counter status effects bring made more ideal once resistances are capped.
There needs to be an option to swap your health or mana flask with either an extra health or mana flask or having special flasks maybe with lesser effect to have it as another option. Some builds their mana or life flask is useless and it makes no sense that slot becomes effectively useless.
1st and 2nd ascendancy is easy but 3rd and 4th it's scuff as hell tied to gearing and lvl outdoing it in order for you to finish it. Best thing they can do as change is any inv drops as tied to item lvl in which when used it reflects the area lvl of the map and frequent honor fountain in Sanctum while not over punishing debuff on Ultimatum.
Agree PoE2 devs should really learn from D4 guys. Meanigful loot explosions lots, arrows up when I compare gear so I dont have to get phd from some nerdy PoE university. I really hope GGG will make this game easier, more loot (5000 rares per rare mob because rare mobs should drop rare items - Blizzard devs understand this). Also when i don't dodge i take damage? Sanctum needs a fundamental change, ideally getting rid of honor or making it not a limiting factor to complete it. Ultimatum just needs it's modifiers tuned down massively, and ideally making the chimera less obnoxious. Accendency wise though yeah feel like it should be repeatable at least for the first 3 accendency. If you fail being able to continue without a reward except accending I think is a fair tradeoff, or if not making it easier for running again maybe lowering the level of the trial.
GGG is just trying to prove to other arpg developers that their game is hard. That's it. People want to have fun in games. If a game makes you mad and angry, and that game is not fun anymore
Maybe they should do level scaling for runes. Like for body rune, +1hp per level + and addition 25 per 10 levels. So level 40 would be 40hp + the additional 100 = 140. Or the damage runes make them +1-7 or whatever the current numbers are (idr) base and +1-2 per 5 levels. So at level 40 itd give a bonus of 9-23. Idk just an idea i thought I'd throw out into the void.
I would consider coming back to the game if they dropped the idiotic charm system and gave us flask slots again. It is so limiting this way and far more punishing since we must now do all bosses with zero flask refills. I don’t mind the difficulty at all. The boss fights are a freaking blast when they are not cheating. But I feel like most of my fun has been squeezed out of the game.

I have failed multiple times and took so much damage because I can't see skills when the screen is just filled with spells. WORST if you dc in the middle of it and losing your entire progress. Plus Ascendency is so heavy RNG its not even skill based. Honor system and RNG is bad. I shouldn't pray for GOOD RNG to beat it. RNG does not equal skill.
More charm slots should be rewards for killing side bosses in the acts, like spirit.

with POE1 i dont think I have ever had to quit and come back. POE2 hasd me walking away and taking a break way more often
