Tombow Irojiten Coloured Pencils! Are they as hard as people say?! I put them to the test

I’ve been eyeing up these coloured pencils for quite some time but was weary over mixed reviews, so I purchased a set to put them to the test!

Update! After using these pencils further they definitely perform amazingly on the strathmore tan toned mixed media paper, sooooo impressed! However unfortunately they performed terribly in the kanuko egusa symphony of cute animals so I think the way forward with these pencils is definitely a textured paper

The textured paper definitely gives a richer color, but I also like the softer look on the smooth paper. Thank you for the review.

I love my Irojiten, they have really unique colours that you can't find in other sets. They definitely need a toothy paper, I think that's why so many people find them too hard. They are just not suited for most colouring books. By the way, the cheapest place to buy them is Amazon Japan (even with international shipping and import duties) and they also have the new set of 10 colours.

I really love them. I've only used them in my beauty of horror books but I have had no issues with color lay down or blending and zero breakage.

Thank you so much for making this great and in depth review! I think I would love these pencils. I love my 120 set of Polychromos, so I’m used to a harder pencil. The pigment is great on the Irojiten and the colours are beautiful! I’m sold. I’m going to buy these 💕

Love listening to you especially when you say words like look and book, I was born and raised in Birmingham but have lived in Australia for 47 years now and have very little accent. Love your work I have one set of these pencils I think it might be the same set as yours, when I got them the seller would not send the other sets to Australia don’t know why. Hi Kirsty, I’ve only just discovered your work, I’m so glad. Thanks for this review I have 2 sets of these pencils. Sometimes like you I couldn’t understand the reviews I’d read. Yes there not the same as Prismas, but every type of pencil is different but you adapt to them. I do find they are best on a good quality paper. Watch the prices though I brought mine in full sets and second set was almost half the price £84.99 from Amazon. I love the packaging but must admit I have mine arranged in a case, if I remember correctly it took me a while to get into my preferred colour order. I look forward to watching more of your videos.

Thanks for the review Kirsty. They are quite expensive on amazon in Canada as well at around 76 bucks Canadian. Price is high for only 30 pencils. I will have to see what other options are available. I have trouble with hard pencils due to the issues with my arms so they may not be for me. Appreciate the comparison between the different paper as well. I really like the color selection. Thanks again for testing them out.
If you have problems with hard pencils I definitely wouldn’t recommend these ones for you ❤️

I have all 100 pencils. I do love them. But they don’t work like prismas. I use these in my Japanese books. The look is delicate and airy.
Definitely not like prismas regards to softness but they pack a punch in pigment x
These were one of the first pencil sets I bought when I first started coloring. I found them to be very hard to use as a beginning colorist. I do still love the colors though. I've got the other two sets not the one you've got. I just looked and Amazon doesn't have your set available in the US. But, I will be buying them. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

The colours booked really nice and vibrant but they sounded a little scratchy? Also if there harder than a polly it’s definitely not the pencil for me, my hands hurt just using pencil so these would be a pain, very Thorough review I appreciate it 💓
Yea I don’t think you would like them, they are hard but go on smooth if that makes sense, I love um, you know me and my hard pencils lol
Kristy this is the second time I have watched this video and I thinking about purchasing these pencils but I only color in coloring books. Do you think they would be ok for them? Did you get the rest of the sets? I don't do any pdfs so I wasn't sure if I should get them. Polys are my favorite pencil. Would love to hear what you think about coloring books. I only heard bad about them.
Hi val i haven’t purchased the other sets atm. Regards to colouring books it really depends on the paper, I would say it need to be a good thick paper for them, I wouldn’t like to try my luck colouring on Amazon printed paper.
Although saying that I have used them several times in my intricate ink colouring books by Tim jeffs the hardcover ones and they’re perfect on those

I tried one set of these too and did a review a few months ago, and found them incredibly hard. The colors were great, but they just were so hard to work with and killed my hand. If they were softer it would be sooooo great because I love their colors.
I like a hard pencil but I agree, you do have to work harder than other brands but I am in love with the colours! I’m currently finishing this page off with them ❤️
@@Kirstycolourandsketch I'm already a heavy handed colorist, so using a super hard lead hurts my wrists but yes, their colors are so freaking pretty.
I waited and the price to come down before i embarked on the adventure. I have all three sets and am very happy. I jut had to lighten my touch some. I am very pleased with them. All 90 of them. Did you end up getting the other two sets?
I didn’t get the other sets yet no, I’m missing the seascape and the new 10 pencils they brought out. I’m glad you like them. I use them for my Tim jeffs pages I find them best for colouring fur 💕
@@Kirstycolourandsketch I have the Tim effs book that is the how to for fur, feathers and scales. I'm dying to try the scales. Maybe I'll try them out on that one. Now I need to get the 10 new ones. LOL
