When a man switches to this one it is a sign that he is now an old-timer.

@@sleepy4x I am in my fortys but play at my club with people from 25 to over 80 and with my kids. I have unfortunately seen quite a few around 60 switch to this kind of racquet and i think it promotes laid back pushing.

I know you said you don't like doubles, and for years , all I played was singles. I took 16 years off from the game, because of a variety of life factors, but also because I could not spend the time on the court needed to be the singles player I had become. In 2017, I came back to tennis primarily to hit for exercise, and to lose weight. Most of the guys I played with had aged,(just like me) and were no longer playing as much singles as before. It took a few years before I learned how to play doubles(still learning) but have come to appreciate it, and even though I way prefer singles, its the game I'm playing 70% of the time.

All you wannabe stand-up comedians who like to ridicule these "old man" racquets are way into some deep and heavy over-compensating here. I have played competitive tennis for four decades---league and tournament. I am a multiple-time state champion in both singles and doubles. Currently a 4.0 player and former 4.5 player. At age 41 I was the #1 rated 4.0 singles player in the USTA Southern Section. I have always used wide-body, head-heavy Wilson racquets.
I never stop being amused by all the players out there who imagine themselves to be some sort of Roger or Rafa knock-off and try to play the game those guys do. Short of 5.0 talent or above, it never works. For years I have beaten players who swing like a windmill, hit the ball a ton, use a truckload of topspin and still make an error for every winner they manage. Way too many players think the modern power game is the only way to win and never even consider that they are being suckered by the racquet industry. They all want to hit the ball hard, harder, hardest and never stop to consider how many errors they make or how often they lose because they insist on trying to play like a pro with a fraction of a pro's natural talent. And every 2-3 years, those guys jump and buy the newest latest racquet. And the industry keeps punching the cash register and shaking their heads at the gullibility of current-day tennis players.
It's not the racquet, guys---it's the player using the racquet that makes the difference. But go ahead---keep mocking the older players who use these racquets. We will keep taking the wins off of you and wink at each other as we pick up our trophies.

I bought a Wilson Triad XP5 a few years ago to deal with shoulder pain. It's a first cousin to the 3 tested here. 103 sq inches, 11.5 ounces with a heavy leather grip + over grip added. It was easy to play with. It feels to me like an ouch less stiff frame. I mostly hit with a flexible 93 sq inch frame, but when I am not meeting that racket's precision requirements, I get out my easy Triad.

I just got blx three, same thing, I m afraid no, you won't, this thing is really difficult to swing fast, feel like lot of air resistance. Don't know why, may be too much k95, anything swing slow now. Still clutch with it. Power is truly insine, so why need swing fast when it gives insane power at slow swing.

What string suggestions do you have for this racquet and for the triad five as well. I’m moving away from my pure drive for something ultra forgiving due to having a serious surgery somewhat recently. I used to play a hybrid of vanquish and hyper g but wasn’t sure if a poly in this light frame would be too harsh.

This is the same racquet as the old Triad Three, BLX Three, and maybe one I'm not remembering. It's one of the things Wilson is doing right - bring back some old, proven racquets, with a reasonable price.

If you watch any of Brent Abels 60-70 doubles matches, there are alot of guys that wield the gamma 115s and wield them well. Im not talking about slouches either, guys that are gold ball winners and top 5 doubles teams in their age groups. Guys that are in there 40s would probably beat, but by no means the average club 40 team.

My dad loved his Wilson Hammer Titanium 4.4 (Oversize) racket to death.. Quite literally, as not long ago it got stepped on and snapped.
Anybody know if this racket is similar to one of those older Wilson Hammer rackets?
Contemplating just buying the same one for him off of eBay but maybe the new tech in this one is worth the higher price.

To all you old man racquet snobs, racquets are tools and can be made to play very differently with different string types and tensions and by adding weight to change balance. Use gamma tnt2 17g at 57 pounds and this racquet will play very much like any player's frame, just more maneuverable and easier to swing. Learn something about racquet tech before speaking like you know nothing.

Thing is with all the dampening you will lose the feel and touch compared to other more serious racquets and with the small mass It is harder to control a powerfull shot from an opponent. This last point is true even for light versions of serious racquets.

@@robertwomack6109 Fair enough. Some things are more important than winning. With a big racket like that - there must be little feel for the ball and how fun is that? TBH I don't even play matches - a handful of games, mostly hitting around and yes I use vintage equipment - recently I have used a Dunlop MAX 200G (Mac and Steffi) - under 85 sq inch head size. Anyway - whatever turns you on - it is all good between consenting adult tennis players.
