Maybe its because I LOVED Dark Matter, and adore Blake Crouch... but I loved Recursion so much I was actually crying near the end which I have never cried over a book before.

Crying is the best. But this book never brought me even close to crying.

I read Recursion and I agree with you. I didn’t feel connected to the characters but I liked the plot.

I think you should read Dark Matter. I think you will like this one better as the characters are more developed. It’s a little less scientific.

Kristin Smith i will! I definitely want to get my hands on a copy. Great to hear that the characters are more developed in that one. Thank you!

Why are some of your books placed spine-in? Let me take a guess...those are the ones you have read already?

I had the same issues with Dark Matter. Excellent premise, great pacing, underdeveloped characters and cheesy dialogues, mind bending, yet a bit predictable at times. Gave it 3 stars, even though everyone else absolutely adored it. Still a good, quick read, great if one is in a reading slump.
I'm not sure if I'll pick Recursion up any time soon, but the premise is very interesting. Reminds me a bit of The Lathe of Heaven by Ursula K. Le Guin. Even though I've only read one book by her and one by Blake Crouch, her writing style is more appealing to me in this sci-fi genre.

I actually seeked out a video reviewing the book because I also felt weird about the romantic angle- like it wasn't developed enough (also it could have been left out). I wanted to validate my opinion given this is a pretty famous book. Thanks for the genuine review.

This was a four star for me as well for similar reasons. Mainly because of the repetitiveness, the predictability of the end and because some of the science stuff went over my head lol I actually enjoyed the romance tho

I thought the ending was too convenient I would have preferred if the ending had been messier

William Stewart someone said the same thing to me on Instagram! i hear what you’re saying. It was a weird ending. Could have been stronger. It also got so repetitive at that point that I was really ready for it to be done

I’m so glad you felt the same way about the sudden love story, and the repetitiveness near the end. It didn’t feel as climactic to me and was kind of a single thread or fact that would take you through discovery in a new memory. I have to say that even though I would say his writing style was more mature in this book, I enjoyed dark matter a bit more . I also still don’t understand how you can jump to a new memory without you physically going there. that’s what kind of blurred the lines for me between dark matters plot and this novels

I will tell that viewers who are interested in this book may realize that the influence of this may have been the Mandela effect in terms of the idea of false memory syndrome like you explained. The Mandela effect could have started as a base idea and then Blake read some more theories about memory that are more based in pseudoscience.
