I thought I was good at guitar because I've spent over a decade learning it and practicing at it in order to become proficient (started with acoustic for a solid 5 years, then electric for 3, and in the last 2 or so I've gotten a proper classical one), but this video, and these songs... it makes me want to truly delve back into learning it and honing my skills until I can truly call myself a master player of the instrument. Thank you immensely for this video, I believe it may have been the push I needed in order to truly rekindle my love and passion for this specific part of my life.

Awesome! Love to hear that… especially the fact that you’re not culturally connected and still doing it and passionate about it. I was more impressed how well and Unique you made that guitar Sound, That number one song, Austraias was the Best, You added a Flamenco touch, that made your Version of Austrias greater and more Valuable. I also love that beautiful looking tan Fret board. Your Beautiful so-called unexpensive Flamenco guitar, was probable made by a Luthier, Who definitely gave your guitar, a rich interior built Sound. Hold on to That guitar, The sound and looks is Marvelous. What you claimed is a cheaper guitar, is actually a Beautiful Spanish Flamenco sounding Guitar!!!
Thanks John! Appreciate the nice feedback. 😉 I use the word “cheaper” in context to what other higher end models cost, typically $500+ or also luthier built guitars, which cost typically anywhere from $1500-$15,000. I wanted to show that it’s not needing to invest into a high end guitar. It starts with the player. 🙂
Starting to learn this style to improve my skills after 3+ years of just chords, thank you so much for the recommendations! Big Tarrega fan too! Subbed!
Agree. Except Malaguena, I play the other four songs, especially Recuerdos de la Alhambra and Asturia, even until now on my old age. But to be honest, they are not the songs written by Tarrega and Albenz I like most. I like Cadiz, Torre Bermeja, Carnaval de Venezia (this is song I can't play though). And of course I like Paraguay composer, Agustin Barrios Mangore, that I play the most.
Thanks! And I like the blue one too! We want to demo some tunes with the blue one with our group Guitarra Azul. It would only make sense 😉 given that the name is “blue guitar”
Nice selection. However your top two pieces are I would say are advanced pieces. At the moment out of my reach lol. Yes I know practise makes perfect. Thanks for sharing. Regards Stephen
Thanks… and yes, as written, these pieces are not all beginner friendly. There are some beginner friendly alternate versions of Malagueña. Lagrima is more an advanced beginner or intermediate-ish… and Asturias is definitely advanced. But it’s about finding repertoire that meets you at your level. So if not these pieces, there a bunch of beautiful tunes out there that don’t need a high level and you can enjoy. 😉
Hey, I have that guitar, the blue one though. It just shows that when you are a good guitar player, it doesn’t matter what guitar you have cuz I’m just learning and hence the sound that I’m producing isn’t as nice and clean whereas with the same guitar, you are doing magic!
Nice, thanks for sharing. I had that same sentiment with my very first guitar many years ago. I remember thinking it wasn’t great sounding, and then hearing a former teacher grab it and making it sound sweet! So I can relate with the feeling. So yes, that’s part of it, but this guitar in all actuality is pretty good for the price point. Of course it’s not like my higher tier professional ones, but it does the job…
Awesome! I also love making simplified versions for beginners to start with, so that you can enjoy the journey from the start. But eventually it’s great to take the challenge and go for the full version. 😉
Beautifully played, Thank’s my friend 😊 The Lord’s love + grace be with you His Hope + peace, in Life, and beyond the grave Hope you are all well and resting in Jesus saving love + grace 😊 Warmest Love + blessing’s friends 😊
Thanks! This was so fun! The song I'm aspiring to play is the Recuerdos de Alhambra because I visited the Alhambra a few times and love Granada too! I have a Spanish Guitar Solos book that has 3 of the other songs in it, but my version doesn't sound like yours. (LOL) I'll keep practicing!!!
Nice, thanks for sharing Emily! That piece shares such a special place in my heart since I’ve spend the most time in that city learning Flamenco Guitar and immersing myself into that culture. The Alhambra is definitely a huge part of making that city such a magical place. And no need to compare out playing, lol. You’ll get there at your own pace. If I compared, I would be an ant in the Spanish Guitar world lol. 😉
Thank you. 🙏🏻 One ☝️ question: do you have a video in which you teach and explain the finger-techniques you need to learn in order to play those pieces? Thank you so much! 🙏🏻
Hi, yes, I have some foundational technique videos that cover arpeggios, picado, pulgar and rasgueados here on the channel. I recorded them years ago, but they still are a great guide to get started. Just type my name and the technique and they will pop up. Or I can pass you a link… And if you have any interest in taking a deeper dive into Spanish Guitar with me, I do offer a complete beginners course/program: Spanish Guitar Made Easy. Feel free to check it out or DM me if you have any questions on the free videos or the course. 😉 spanishguitarstudio.com/spanishguitarmadeeasy
David, what do you think of the guitar overall? My wife bought one for me over a year ago. It was on sale for less than $200.00 at the time. I took some of the relief out of the neck. Then bought a bone saddle. I set the string height at 2.5 mm. The last thing I did was to install a golpeador. I’ve been playing on it to learn flamenco techniques. I am really enjoying having it for many reasons. l still want to get a Blanca because the woods used in the Protege C1 give it a darker sound than I hear with a Blanca. ]What are your thoughts?
Hey Timothy! That’s cool, didn’t know you had one. So, yes, first I think when possible, it’s great if a guitar tech can asses it and make some adjustments and a proper set up to the players comfort, when someone wants to throw that in their budget. The one I received luckily feels good as is. That’s what I liked about it off hand. The only drawback I found as a budget guitar is that you have to add a golpeador for Flamenco playing if you want to take care of it. In terms of really assessing the quality, of course it’s not going to hold up to high end guitar, but what blew me way was that usually for that price range, the guitars are not that great in terms of sound quality and the playability is rough. So that why I’m digging recommending this model for budget beginner friendly students. The playability is so important for beginners. So that’s my main angle on it… And also for many beginner ears, they wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between this and higher end models. But it sounds like you can hear those differences and are itching for a Blanca. 😉 The tone doesn’t bother me. I usually tend to like warmer darker tones
@@DavidChiriboga no I’ve been playing by ear for years but now I would like to try something a bit more difficult like this. For this song though I may have to wait till I get hand surgery. Ganglion cyst, putting pressure on my wrist. I had one removed on the left hand, now I have to have the right hand. After I recover, I will definitely be practicing for this.
I have that same guitar. I didn't think I would like it as much as I do. I hate that coral color, and am looking into repainting it a different color. My only real complaint about the guitar is the high action. Maybe I got a lemon, I don't know, but I have it lowered about as low as it will go, and it's still fairly high. It's a bit difficult to play above about the seventh fret or so. But it actually sounds pretty decent, responds well to loud, aggressive playing. I don't think of it as particularly subtle, but hey, it was $150. It's great for that price.
Cool man. Yea, sometimes with factory guitars, you have to try a couple before purchasing because the action may slightly vary. The one I got was pretty nicely set. No complaints about the action. That’s one of the usual culprits with lower budget guitars. So I was surprised with the nice playability factor. I dig the bold color. I like the Blue one too. But painting it would be a fun project. I actually thought of that as well. The problem is it could get pricey if someone is doing it for you. So defeats the purchase of a budget friendly guitar. lol 🙃
I love Romanza. When I come across it, I usually only see the name Romantic Guitar, Romance, etc. And thought, yes, it's romantic but what is the NAME of it?! 😂 So I guess that is it. 😊 Thanks 🩵
lol, I can see the mis-interpretation in the name. But yup, that’s the name. And it funny that it’s an anonymous piece; no composer was ever credited to it.
Thanks so much! I actually just created a version for my upcoming e-course. Havnt figured out if I will have it available on a platform outside of the course yet. Keep you posted.
Awesome! Which one do you think you’ll try first? If youve never played this style, then they might be a little challenging, since they’re not for complete beginners. But parts of Malagueña and Lagrima are a little more manageable to try out. 😉
I have just started to learn acoustic guitar but I also want to play classical guitar. So please advice me some good method /technique books that are relevant to me for learning classical Guitar. Austurias is my all time favourite. Thanks.
Hi! Thanks for sharing… Asturias is also one of my favorites too, I never get tired of it. 🙂 So I actually just launched my new e-course/program for beginners. It teaches the fundamentals to start playing classical and flamenco guitar. Plus I’m currently adding in a monthly group coaching zoom call for six months to help students that enroll. Check it out and see if it looks like a good fit for you… lmk if you have any questions.
Amazing David !!!! I am a grandson of Spanish parents and I would like to know more about flamenco, what is the best guitar to start with, do you teach online?
Hey, sounds great man! I’m glad you want to start learning this style. Feel feee to shoot me a DM on Instagram or email me with any questions about starting your journey or picking a guitar. I’d have to hear a little more about where you currently are with guitar what you have, to help a bit more. So I’m actually about to launch a full immersive Spanish Guitar e-course which crosses over Flamenco and Spanish Classical techniques and beginner songs. I havnt announced it yet, but it will be out for the new year. There’s going to be group coaching lessons to go along with it and optional add on private lesson check-ins to go along with the course. Very step by step with my help along side. I’d be happy to have you on board. Hi! Thanks for chiming in, but Romanza is definitely famously known for being an anonymous composition. To my knowledge, nobody knows the composer of this very famous melody. I am very aware of Tarrega, as he’s one of my favorites for Spanish classical, but he’s definitely not the composer of that piece. Maybe he made an arrangement of it, but that would be as far as that goes.
@@DavidChiriboga I apologize. I decided to clarify, this is really not a Tarrega. I'm learning adelita by F.tarrega and for some reason I noticed that tarrega also wrote the romance. It seems like the author of the romance is v.gomez
It’s part of an arrangement I made for a version in my Spanish Guitar Made Easy(Beginners e-course program) But that section is standard and comes from the original version. That said, you can find multiple arrangements and versions of it now a days. But in short, it’s based off the original.
Definitely good choices, though Asturias was actually written for piano. (Sounds great on guitar) Are we talking ONLY Spanish composers? Personally, I'd add Fandanguillo by Turina, Sonatina by Torroba, Homenaje a Debussy by de Falla, Invocación y danza by Rodrigo, Mozart variations op.9 by Sor, & Danza Española no.5 by Granados. (For another piano piece) OK, more than 5! Lol
That’s correct, that whole Albeniz suite was composed for piano, but ultimately made more famous on the guitar. So many good ones in that suite! Thanks for the additional submissions, all great as well! 👌🏼I was going for some multi leveled beginner-advanced Spanish themed pieces that I’ve noticed are played the most in this realm. I’ll have to make a top 10 😉
@DavidChiriboga indeed so. Albéniz & Granados wrote some absolute bangers. There's some awesome Tárrega pieces at all levels too; Maria, Adelita, Capricho Arabe, Estudio Brilliante de Alard.
Thanks great! I know how that feels, there’s a tune a I learned when I started playing and just barely remember the main melody, and would love to re-visit it for nostalgic sakes but don’t know the name. 😅

EXCELLENT CHOICES!!! 💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥 Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring by J.S. Bach..... The Capricho A'rabe by Tarrega, And this one particular piece by Villa Lobos that I cannot remember at this moment, are also beautiful pieces. You've reminded me of just how beautiful Recuerdos de la Alhambra really is!!! I tried that back in the day, but I had not developed my tremolo. IT'S TIME TO GET SERIOUS!!💯🔥🎶🎵🎶🎶 Thanks for the INSPIRATION, and MOTIVATION!!!🙏🏽
Good selections to add to the larger list! 👌🏼 Recuerdos is just feels so good to play and so nice to hear, especially given the connection to one of my favorite majestic places I’ve visited. ❤️🔥 Glad I can inspire you! Just trying to give back and inspire, as many others have for me!
Oooh… Tough choice! I honestly love both, and have both. I started with dabbling on both guitars, but more on the electric. But I really doubled down and got serious on advancing on the guitar when I discovered the Spanish Guitar. It’s up to you, ask yourself which one will fire you up with more passion to find the motivation to stay consistent and stay disciplined. I would suggest to focus on one to start and then you can always add in the other style later on. Good luck 😅
@DavidChiriboga thanks honestly helps alot! I'm a big fan of pop music and Spanish music but in terms of what I'd be consistent with I think pop is the choice TYSM!
This model by Cordoba is sold as a classical, but really I think it’s set up like a hybrid that works for either style. It’s doesn’t feel like a pure classical or flamenco. That’s why I think it’s a great guitar for beginners to experiment on. It’s a comfortable guitar to play…
I love Capricho Árabe ❤️🔥 I actually have a video with that piece on my channel too. I’ll have to check out Tango in D, not sure if I’m familiar with it.
If I met David randomly, in a grocery store line, I'd say to myself "I bet this guy plays Flamenco." He just looks it. After 50 years of playing guitar, my goal for next year is to memorize these while working on Capricho Arabe now. Really thinking the Spaniards are the preternatural spirits of the guitar.
lol… I guess I sort of look the part. Thanks for sharing your goals. Cheering you on. 😉Capricho Arabe is also another one of my favorites. Love Tarrega… ❤️🔥
I played classical guiar from 6 to 16 years old, I'm 20 now, I recently bought a new guitar because my other one was broken and in this video I found 2 of the songs I played when I was about 10-11 years old and I didn't know the name of them. This video made me so nostalgic and I'm going to relearn this songs. Thank you very much for this!!!!

I agree - all my favorites!!
❤️🔥👌🏼
Five great choices!
👌🏼 Have to make a top 10 now…
Wow, that Lagrima was absolutely beautiful😢
Thank you
Thanks so much! It’s a simple piece that’s very beautiful and emotional to me.
Wow you play all these pieces so well one really travels to this :-) This Cordoba Matiz in classical blue is on my list now for sure!!!
Thanks! And I like the blue one too! We want to demo some tunes with the blue one with our group Guitarra Azul. It would only make sense 😉 given that the name is “blue guitar”
@@DavidChiriboga Sounds interesting are there any clips of your group here? :-)
You reminded me about time I was student of Classical Guitar … Gracias !!!
Awesome, hopefully good memories! Never too late to pick it back up… 😉
Totalmente de acuerdo...Bravo 👏
Gracias 👌🏼
I would love to learn them all. THANK YOU for the inspiration ❤
Thanks, love to hear that I inspire! 😉 And step by step, start with the one you feel most comfortable with.
@@DavidChiriboga keep playing and producing good music and also teaching us all the good things. I do watch your videos regularly. Happy playing…..
OMG! I learned an arranged version of Asturias from my friends in Guitar 1 in HS! Now I gotta learn the big boy version 🤭
Awesome! I also love making simplified versions for beginners to start with, so that you can enjoy the journey from the start. But eventually it’s great to take the challenge and go for the full version. 😉
Beautifully played, Thank’s my friend 😊
The Lord’s love + grace be with you

Hope you are all well and resting in Jesus saving love + grace 😊

Used to play Romanza and Asturias in music school :) Great choice
Awesome! Time to dust them off and bring them back to life 😉
@@DavidChiriboga👍 Romanza can play without an issue) Asturias remember only 1-2 parts, but should give it a go to recall everything)
@@DavidChiriboga Thank you!!!🙏🏻
Awesome.
I am actively practicing Maleguena and Asturias ❤!
That’s awesome, two contrasting pieces in difficulty. Good luck with them!
@@DavidChiriboga Thank you 😊 !
Or I can pass you a link…
And if you have any interest in taking a deeper dive into Spanish Guitar with me, I do offer a complete beginners course/program: Spanish Guitar Made Easy. Feel free to check it out or DM me if you have any questions on the free videos or the course. 😉

Thanks man! 🙂
You're Pro & the important is the generouse man.
Thanks! 😉
Love your version of magulua, sorry for bad spelling.
Thanks so much! 😉 Here’s another version with a violinist friend:

Some of my favorites… ❤️🔥
Amazing 👏 your very good sir !!
Thanks so much 🙏🏼
Beautiful and inspiring.
Thanks! Hope it inspires you to play one of them… 😉
Asturias is one of my favorites. I would love to play it.
Same here, one of my top favorites 👌🏼 Have you tried to learn it before?
@@DavidChiriboga no I’ve been playing by ear for years but now I would like to try something a bit more difficult like this. For this song though I may have to wait till I get hand surgery. Ganglion cyst, putting pressure on my wrist. I had one removed on the left hand, now I have to have the right hand. After I recover, I will definitely be practicing for this.
Same, after hearing John Arcilla the actor for Heneral Luna play it, I just fell in love with the piece.
So defeats the purchase of a budget friendly guitar. lol 🙃
@@DavidChiriboga I'd definitely do it myself. I kinda like the dark blue one, but I'm thinking maybe guacamole green is more gooder.
I love Romanza. When I come across it, I usually only see the name Romantic Guitar, Romance, etc. And thought, yes, it's romantic but what is the NAME of it?! 😂
So I guess that is it. 😊
Thanks 🩵
lol, I can see the mis-interpretation in the name. But yup, that’s the name. And it funny that it’s an anonymous piece; no composer was ever credited to it.
¡Gracias, excelente selección! Me encantaría oirte tocar Luna de Fiesta, de José Luis Encinas...
Muchas gracias! No escuchado ese tema, lo voy a buscar y escuchar. 😉

wonderful playing. is the sheet music available for your version of malaguena?
Thanks so much! I actually just created a version for my upcoming e-course. Havnt figured out if I will have it available on a platform outside of the course yet. Keep you posted.
perfect choices
Damn the jawline and music goes crazy
Adelita would’ve been a nice addition to the songs you have here. And Cordoba. Cheers.
Adelita for sure 👍🏼 For the next list. 😉I think we all learn that one as some point…
Great inspiration thank you 👍🏻
Happy to be able to inspire 😉
I'm waiting for my new classical guitar and these are great recommendation
So I actually just launched my new e-course/program for beginners. It teaches the fundamentals to start playing classical and flamenco guitar. Plus I’m currently adding in a monthly group coaching zoom call for six months to help students that enroll. Check it out and see if it looks like a good fit for you… lmk if you have any questions.
spanishguitarstudio.com/spanishguitarmadeeasy
I do not find the way to replace any of these 5 songs, yet I find painful not to include the movement #2 of the "Concierto of Aranjuez"
Yes, it’s a tough call, definitely a few more to include for a top 10 list. 😉 (La Catedral would be another I’d like to add in as well…)
i may be influenced by anime but "Clavar La Espada" would be a good pick.
Havn’t heard that one, will have to check it out!
Superb
Hey David , actually I don’t have instagram but I have email and WhatsApp , I’ll be glad to talk to you if you want !
My name is Ricardo and I’m a Brazilian Spanish/Portuguese living in Japan for 20 years already , I’ve search about some flamenco guitars and there is a lot of Spanish guitars here but I don’t know if they truly are Spanish made traditional or if they are fake cuz I don’t know much about spanish flamenco guitar brands just Cordoba , Alhambra and Jose Ramirez.
I’ve searched here in and I found some cordobas , like the F7 , C5, F7 Paco and used Manuel Rodriguez e Hijos C3 , La Flamenca , Amalio Burguet 2F , Jose Antonio 7FC , Antonio Sanchez FL1 and others.
But I’ll be waiting for contact !
Thanks again David !

What you call Romance is a work by Francisco Tárrega - Romance de amor. This is not anonymous, but the founder of the modern classical guitar
It seems like the author of the romance is v.gomez
is this your personal rendition of malagueña? I can't find any sheet music that has that second part in it? thanks!
It’s part of an arrangement I made for a version in my Spanish Guitar Made Easy(Beginners e-course program) But that section is standard and comes from the original version. That said, you can find multiple arrangements and versions of it now a days. But in short, it’s based off the original.
How are you making it have reverb?? Are you editing the Audio a little
Yes, just added a little reverb with my video editing software. For Spanish Guitar recordings, I love my reverb for sure…
SO FAR TRIED LAGRIMA and Romanze
Cool, how is it going with those pieces?
Hi David Back to San Francisco maybe you would like to teach part of this
Which one from here?
I‘d put also the Concierto de Aranjuez in.
💯 Yes, that’s a masterpiece and that melody is also very widely recognized.
I would add Rodrigo ‘s Concierto de Aranjuez - the best known section ( think it is the adagio ?!) It is very sexy !
Yes, that would def be another top song… maybe for the next list. I’ll have to learn it though 😅
I have been looking for the name of the third song for a very long time... Finally found it herr😊
Thanks great! I know how that feels, there’s a tune a I learned when I started playing and just barely remember the main melody, and would love to re-visit it for nostalgic sakes but don’t know the name. 😅

Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring by J.S. Bach..... The Capricho A'rabe by Tarrega,
And this one particular piece by Villa Lobos that I cannot remember at this moment, are also beautiful pieces. You've reminded me of just how beautiful Recuerdos de la Alhambra really is!!!

I dont know whether i want an acoutsic or a eletrical guitar 😭 they both are so cool for their own respective songs
What guitar name model you playing ?
That’s the Cordoba Protege Matiz Guitar. I have the name and link listed in the description and in the video too. 😉
My friend this is flamenco guitar 🎸 or classical?
This model by Cordoba is sold as a classical, but really I think it’s set up like a hybrid that works for either style. It’s doesn’t feel like a pure classical or flamenco. That’s why I think it’s a great guitar for beginners to experiment on. It’s a comfortable guitar to play…
I think #3 was played in "Das Boot" while the U Boot entered a Spanish port at night.
Cool, wasn’t aware of that…
Ok.....my favoirites are Tango in D albenez, capricho arabe terrga....
