The series was canceled by Netflix after one season in July 2019. In May 2020, Cartoon Network's nighttime Adult Swim programming block announced they ordered a second season of the series, which premiered on June 13, 2021. In August 2021, the series was renewed for a third season.
They cancelled it pretty soon after the Bojack animators made complaints about their treatment, too

The difference between SA and SA fantasy is that in a SA situation, they’re the one in control, but in a fantasy *you’re* the one in control.
That’s not true though. The thing about obtrusive thoughts is that it’s NOT a fantasy. The brain pulls up traumatic memories that you associated with sex you have no idea how terrible it is to have memories of sexual abuse pop in to your mind when it’s the last thing you want.
Intrusive thoughts, feelings, emotions, and fantasies that can come from a sexual assault experience from when you were a child hits too close to home…
This made me feel not so alone anymore. I've been SA'd growing up and I always felt sick when this happened.

I read somewhere that sometimes this happens bc your body and mind craves having some sort of control in the situation and its one of the ways the mind copes wit being SA'd and having no control over the situation, it was awhile ago but it made me feel a little less ashamed and disgusting, hope this helps.

this is honestly so validating and... comforting? as someone who has experienced SA, the intrusive fantasies are really one of the most disturbing and confusing symptoms. it's really validating to see it represented and even explained later :'))

Apparently he’s her former boss, and harassed her. I think she also had a childhood experience with sexual assault. In a later scene in this with her therapist it’s implied this could be her coping. Or just her fetish.
Rewatch the episode where she goes to the jelly lake and you’ll get it. These kinds of things tend to stem from a sexual assault experience.
@@wovstahNo no I didn't mean it as a definite cause and effect in this case. The two are linked, we've seen Bertie link her trauma with some sexual gratification and thoughts but it definitely is not a cause and effect. Sorry if I didn't explain that properly.

When unconsensual events are your first introduction into sex, it can be hard to deal with how it affects you. It's hard to find a safe space to work through that trauma as your body matures and your libido/hormones make you feel guilty for the fantasies. For me CNC helped me, but it can be more damaging for others if they can't target the root of the issue and they just feel worse. I wish the best for anyone who's struggling in that scary in between space of separating yourself from that event, and how it's affected you.

I've watched this episode at least 3 times a day for the past week. tuca and bertie is on its own an excellent show that I'm grateful for, but this episode, oh my god. it connected with me so strongly in a way I haven't felt since goddam bojack horseman. im obsessed with this specific episode so much because I've never ever seen maladaptive sexual trauma response not only existing in a text but to see it so expertly done, it really connects to me. it means so much to me and I'm so thankful vibe check exists.

This show was a bit of a stepping stone for me when it comes to how I feel about my fantasies. Now I actually explored that part of me and feel much much better.

I got bullied alot in school and the trauma definitely followed me into adult hood. The kinks I have now probably have something to do with that but yeah if you got lemons make lemonade.

There's a lot to unpack in this scene. I was SA'd as a kid as well and I've had similar intrusive thoughts during my personal time. It's not a feeling of shame, because being ashamed is just a load of BS. It's a feeling of being unsafe; a sensation that was imprinted onto your psyche like a fragile scab. I admire Bertie because she actually learns to seek help for it, while I was forced to struggle with it, hide my wound, and patch it all on my own.
Also, yeah, putting away the vibe without even a sanitizing wipe is nasty. That better not me a habit of hers...

There are a few shows like that now that I think about it.
Big Mouth and Human Resources have a huge gross factor, but when you stick to it, they tackle some pretty dark issues with an impressive accuracy.
Maybe the gross factor is to deter easily offended people so that none of them will tell the writers how to talk about relationships.
The way the show portrays it is actually tasteful? It hits that balance of silly cartoon and relatable realism

Like i said, the fact that Bertie gets turned on by her past traumas with Pastry Pete and having dirty dreams about him means that on some level Bertie is experiencing some form of masochism, which i suppose is actually normal for some people.
I don't know if we can say she is developing a Masochism fetish over her trauma, but it is true that many SA victims use kinks, including Masochism roleplay to regain power over a situation they didn't have any control over it.
It is normal for her to be exploring this sexually, and I do hope your comment wasn't meant to shame anyone that experienced what she did, or is having the same experience this character had.

A little late here, but yeah, After Netflix cancelled Tuca and Bertie, TimeWarner picked up the rights for additional seasons and Season 2 aired last summer on Adult Swim. As a Covert Trauma Survivor this always comes up for me. I've had to endure triggering sensual noises, and voices that played part in my battles.
